You couls attach a couple of latches so you could slap 'em back together just in case the need arises. I'll have to do that to my Rick 4080, it's a little over 14.5 lbs. 👍

Mike Ruthford from Genesis had a few detachable Doubleneck Bass, 6 string and 12 string halfes made from shergold guitars and basses. They were put together by using some metal bars in the back and he could combine whatever he wanted or needed. If you look closely at pictures of those doublenecks you can see where they were put together.
Love those double slug custom buckers and those sweet custom shop alpha mini pots. Gibson has really stepped up their game. Plus 2006 Gibson’s are the best- they always have an Asian feel to em

Being that this is now September I realize I am late for the April 1 party. I also realized that my subscription to this channel was canceled. thanks YT🖕 That being said, I like the new tone of both halves of the double neck. It seems to have a much brighter tone than the complete un-cut version.
This red is gorgeous. I have the Gibson too but with white with gold trim. I used it while playing the big hotels in the Catskills. I loved it, I used to try and let the glare from the spotlights zap the guests. They laughed and got into it, my band boss grumbled lol. It’s very hefty and awkward to play. It sounded excellent and our shows were only an hour or so so it wasn’t all that bad. I never used it for a full 4hr gig. I’m still playing but now using a Gibson LP tribute bass DC instead of lead. I’d rather be in a pocket than out front. I’ve done my time lol
I remember another guitarist on TH-cam talking about how badly he’d always wanted one of these, but could never find one. It would be pretty funny seeing his reaction to this.
I recently bought one of the Firefly bass/six string combos, and while it it essentially a Chibson, it sure is fun. Mine is 13 lbs, so not too outrageously heavy. I’m kinda sorry to see one get hacked up, even if it is for April Fools day.
I literally got mine today from my dad. Hardshell case and everything. Only thing I don't like about it is the tuning pegs on the 6 string get in the way when I'm playing low on the bass neck. But how fun of a guitar huh?!

True, I don't understand what is funny about destroying a perfectly good instrument, just because teh name si fake and some parts are noch toroginal USA. Somebody out there, not being able to aford a real one, would have loved to have it and play it wholeheartedly.
So.. Try a Nashville Tuning!!!. That's where you remove all the low end strings on the 12 string. Then with the help of a capo you can get some really nice MANDO style sounds from your guitar. I used to use a Nashville Tuned guitar for over dubbing when recording folk style tunes.
Danelectro made a bunch of these in many variations over the years (those might be easier to chop in half😂) I know Nels Cline (from Wilco) found a custom built 12/baritone one in a pawn shop once. He was able to get ahold of the then retired maker, who got quite upset because that was a custom order from someone he knew, and the guy goes and pawns it off!

Salutations Austin! I couldn’t believe that you were actually cutting a Gibson double neck in half!!! I was very relieved to find out that it was actually a Chibson, however, I would have taped it first where you were planning to cut, and then used a circular saw to get a nice straight and clean cut, and then installed a special bracket so you could reattach them later on, which would have made it a very unique detachable double neck guitar. Someone else recommended using magnets, but I suspect that might not work satisfactorily, but it might be worth looking into. Both halves actually sound fairly decent, and the weight is much more manageable. I have been wanting a Gibson, (or Epiphone) double neck for years, however, I have not been able to find one to fit my budget yet, and the local guitar shop has had so many other options that have turned out to be a bit of a distraction, not that I’m complaining, as they are usually guitars that I have had on my acquisition list also, and I like to help keep the shop in business. I’ll just add that a 4” wide strap makes these type of instruments MUCH more pleasant to carry.
