This might be the most beautiful version of the most beautiful piece of choral music ever written. Tribute to Michael Barrett, Tuks Camerata --- and not least, the Xhosa people.
this might be the best version of this song I've ever heard. even with the microphone not quite handling the climax of the song, the emotion still came across in a way that showed that this choir *really* understood what the song was about. Very few groups can pull that off. Wonderfully done.
I really don't understand the lyrics but whenever I listen to this song I get carried away and filled with so much peace. very beautiful piece. From Nairobi Kenya
first time hearing this song, i've been listening to it the whole day. All praises to our Father God for imparting such melodies/songs for us to listen to. Big up to the composers, the unity behind this song regardless of our colour, situation. The love, oh our Father in heaven is pleased by such diversity combining into oneness (unity). unity pleases our Lord.
I cry every single time I listen to this. It’s hauntingly beautiful. I’m not religious but it makes me feel connected to everything. Bravo. Edit: There’s such serenity in submitting to the divine for a few minutes and feeling every cell in your body buzz with aliveness. This song will always be a gateway for me.
The lyrics make the beauty of the music even more profound: Ngob’umthatile eh umtwana wakho (You took Your own son) Uhlale nathi hololo helele (Who lived amongst us) Indodana ka Nkulunkulu (The Son of God) Bayi’bethelela hololo helele (Was crucified + [A wordless expression of grief/ a wail]) Oh Baba!, Baba, Baba Yehova! (Oh Father, Jehovah!) Baba, hololo, helele (Father! [wailing]) A beautiful piece for any time of year. Especially moving during Holy Week!
I have listened to this every few months since it was first posted. This is quite simply a masterpiece of the highest order, both arrangement and performance. Sadly, the audio quality might have degraded some since I first heard this version.
Virtually all posted renditions of this song by all groups say it is traditional Xhosa and sung in isiXhosa. But occasionally some say Zulu. Can you resolve?
It is composed by Mr L Jali (he's Zulu). He uses both Zulu and Xhosa words for example "Yehova" is xhosa for Jehova, however Baba is Zulu for Father (The Xhosa equivalent would be Tata).
People: “why do you like altos so much?”

Choral music man. ❤️😍
Amen and amen, thank you guys for the perfect translation, amen
Oh guys, this song touched my heart.
For those who don't know the importance of the hand raising is it represents the nails on jesus hands as he ascends into heaven.
No, it really doesn't. Nice try, though.
@@SpongeBobbyBrady how do you know either way, unless you are part of the choir? The ascension reference is apt is it not?
Nothing more beautiful on this earth
