    With a DD, I was taught to crank it for 5 seconds or so with fuel off to warm the cylinders and combustion chamber then crank to start. Usually starts pretty quick

    A bit of heat through the intake and it will fire up quicker but at least Screamin Jimmy's can start without heat or a cold start device.

    I heard that 6.5 cheechin away in the background, just about to give mine up for a DMAX. Mine’s just worn out and tired.

    • @ThisGuysStuffandStuff

      Dmax isn't a bad engine for sure, theres just something we like about older diesels though.
      but yeah that 6.5 is gonna run for a while, we try to take good care of it

    Nice! and the 6.5 is a good horse too. but i'd say the 6.2 is a stronger motor than the 6.5 in ways but has more limitations when pulling

    • @ThisGuysStuffandStuff
      @ThisGuysStuffandStuff  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i like 6.2's as well. if you take proper care of them, they will last a good long while. i want to some day take a marine 6.2 and give it a little boost from a supercharger and they do fairly well for power...for an idi. i love the sound those engines produce though!!!!

    • @SchnelleKat
      @SchnelleKat 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same here bud. I got a 82 K10 First Year they put the 6.2 into production. so its a pretty rare motor took me 8 months to find mine... and only half way into the rebuilt and already got close to 1800 into it. Not counting the, Crank, Piston, etc.. the Course thread injectors (82 only) are like $750.. I might swap my 5.7 olds diesel into my 76 Nova and say fuck it

    Well when it comes to a ice cold diesel with no glow plugs or block heater to assist cold starting nothing beats a can of ether (starting fluid) with a couple sprays inside of the intake to wake up an old grumpy diesel.

    • @spartan117m15
      @spartan117m15 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The worst thing you can do to a diesel is use ether. A couple sprays?! Do you want to blow up it up?!

    • @Blueblur1987
      @Blueblur1987 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@spartan117m15 Well before diesels had heater grids put into their intakes and glow plugs using ether was the only way to get them started in cold weather. And sure you can continuiously crank on a diesel to get it started has when you compress air the air heats up but doing that is extremely hard on the starting system. And there is areas during winter like Alaska that truckers run their trucks around the clock has if they shut them down there is no guarantee that they'll get their truck started again even with the aid of starting fluid (ether).
