    Thanks for such a comprehensive overview! One thing I’ve done with the shorties and the 2 inch cables to make flexible dpns is to use a smaller needle on one end since I’m only using that end to hold the stitches in my right hand with the active needle on the left. That way I only need one set of shorties to make the flexible dpns! 😊

    The only problem with Chiaogoo is the joint of the screw, in small sock sizes is super easy to break the metal, I think they must use a soft metal, so sadly I already broke several 😓 other brands I haven’t have this problem

    I can see why you might like the elastic needle holders. My problem with them is that eventually within a few years the elastic fails, and then you have a piece of junk. That’s why I like the original cases they don’t rely on elastic. Yeah, the needles might be able to slide out, but with time you build a habit that allows you to open them without having the needles sliding out. Plus I like that they’ve stitched the needle sizes into the case so it doesn’t wear off.
    Also, for a gripper to tighten your needles, a cheap solution is buy a roll of non-skid material that you put under rugs and just cut up pieces of it. It works great to grip your needles to tighten them and you have virtually and endless supply.

    Congratulations to the winner. I don't know, but I get so excited over needle reviews. For metal needles, nothing can beat Chiaogoo stainless; I prefer Seeknit needles over Chiaogoo bamboos. Regarding making flexible DPNs for your red shorties, Chiaogoo sells the Twist Shorties combo pack for the red shorties and they come with thin 5 and 6" cables that fit also the mini needles. I find the mini cables and the 360 SWIV more delicate and both have broken at the join. It's probably caused by the way my hand rests on the cables, but I think these thinner cables are far more delicate and not as durable. I like the blue flex cables and think CG should consider releasing them in longer lengths for those who find the original cables too stiff for magic loop.
    If you were to choose just one set, which would it be?

    • @purLZknitting
      @purLZknitting  ปีที่แล้ว

      My mini cables do bent from time to time, but they have never broke. Not yet, at least. The blue cables would definitely be so much better for magic loop. The swiv cable would be good too if they will be fixed. I wonder if Chiaogoo have testing department? I mean, they should! But how do they test their needles and cables? Swiv join would not have passed my testing. Mini needles would have benefited from a bit thicker and longer connector. Well all the needles would have. I love Gold Tip needles joins! Very stable and secure. GT would be my go to needle if they would come out with 4” tips, and more flexible cables. Connectors would be good to have too.

    I learned a lot of new information about the needles.
    I've just started picking up the longer, fixed circular needles and will hopefully be knitting socks soon.

    Thank you for a very good review!
    I recognize the problem with the needles slipping out of the cases so I bought thick sheets of paper (black) at the hobby store and cut stripes to fit each size in the pockets of the needles and placed the paper behind the needles in each pocket and it works perfectly for all the different knitting cases. 🧶

    You said on one of your videos that chiaogoo are your favorite IC needles. Your caveat was not so great for magic loop. If these are your favorites do you just use them or do you have magic loop designated needles. I use circular to replace straight and for magic loop. Seems half of my knitting would be magic loop on a needle you don’t prefer for that method. Looking at adding a set of I C needles but still not sure which to buy. Recommendations?

      I use my Chiao Goo IC’s or fixed circulars for magic loop all the time. They’re the best with their lightweight and always flexible cables. And if you have the twist cables, the cable is always in position to start working on the other half of your stitches. Chiao Goo also have the bamboo twist needles when you don’t want to use metal.

    they are indeed pricey so lots of educating myself before purchase. I did treat myself to the blue shorties and I so far love working with them, doing the sleeves on a sweater, light years better than dpn's. I did not like chiaogoo dpn's for knitting socks as the stitches are always sliding off, too slippery but now in circular, well, I will be purchasing more for sure. Don't have any trouble with the case, would have to shake the case for the needles to fall out. My only disappointment was with the little ruler.....why would you go to all the trouble to make such a high quality product and make a paper ruler?! Metal would have been so much nicer, this one is not going to last unless I got it laminated.

      One genius person - Suzanne Lek. With the help of a friend who used to design surgical instruments. I have a video on Gold Tip needles! They are really amazing needles! They have to be broken in( they are grippy at first), but they are superior to any other needle on the market!
