I’ve lived in Ga since I was born in 1959. Grew up in middle Georgia as a farm boy. My dad was a huge Braves fan. We had no cable in the country. My dad spent fortunes on TV antennas trying to get Superstation 17 (TBS) so he could watch the Braves. We got the games but always a snowy picture. Still watched it. I’m talking through the rough years too. Occasionally would drive two hours and watch them live. Empty seats everywhere. But we loved our Braves then and still do. Unfortunately, my dad passed away in June 1991. Just when the Braves took off on their run. I remember describing how they were playing while he was laying in the hospital bed. I’m grateful for the memories that my dad created with the Braves. I will always remember those days. Braves fan for life here as they hold a special place in my soul.
RIP to your father. I grew up a yankee fan in the 90’s but couldn’t help but like those Braves teams as a kid. Even playing against them in the World Series twice that decade. I bought a Braves cap when I was 10 from my towns sports store and came home with it on. My Dad was so mad lmao.
My Grandma was a huge Braves fan but she died about 5 years ago. I always liked the Braves but didn't make it a point to see every game, but now that she's gone I've seen every single game.
@@beyoncebillings6625 doubt the Braves would have beat the Blue Jays in 1993, realistically it should have been 95-97 (3 straight). 1998-2000 would have still belonged to the Yankees.
To be as competitive as we were for as long as we were... sure I agree with you the championships weren't as plentiful as we would have like but looking back I wouldn't trade it for anything.
It may not lead to another 10+ year streak of division titles, but I have a feeling a few more young stars coming up and some trades will lead to a dynasty in the coming decade. This team is already great with some glaring issues. It will only be better with Ian Anderson, Drew Waters and Cristian Pache in Atlanta.
I grew up (in Nicaragua), watching Atlanta Braves play great baseball. While other kids were fans of the NY Yankees, I always was a Brave boy. Some of my best memories are linked to that amazing team from the 90s.
I grew up in Canada, and there was more Braves and Yankees games then Blue Jays games on my basic TV. Even though I’m a Jays fan the Braves and Yankees will always be in my heart
Look, I'm a Georgia native. I have cried and suffered through everything on a sports spectrum, no one can tell me how to celebrate our victories or our losses, but this year we f****** earned it! Thank you David Justice ,Tom glavin ,Ron Grant, Mark Lemke, Terry
If you are a Bulldog fan I have a feeling you guys may be getting a championship there too. My Tide isn't the team they were last year. We are good, but if Georgia plays their best ball they will beat us.

@@brandonyoung2894 exactly....my father and I were at my daughter's soccer game here in New York both discussing how awesome it was that the braves and Atlanta shoved it up baseballs rear end...although I'm a New Yorker the Braves winning this year was more important than my Yankees winning. I am not into most sports nowadays due to the liberal pandering of the commissioners...the only commissioner in any sport who stands up to the bs is Dana White in the UFC...I hope the Braves do it again...congrats to you guys..you deserved it
As a 35 year old man who grew up in Atlanta watching this, this brings back so many memories of my youth, and I was fortunately able to be there when Sid scored from second and I can saw without a doubt I will never forget that night and feeling it left with me. I really wish the Braves had an independent owner/group that isn't afraid to spend money and grow. I am not a fan of Liberty Media at all.
I was from Louisiana and we didn’t have a baseball team here. As a kid I watched these 90s Braves on TBS and just became a fan instantly. Everyone here was an Astros, Rangers, or Yankees fan but I sported the fitted A. Damn I miss those days.
When Ted Turner brought the Braves to TBS in the late 1970's I was a little girl. My mother started watching them and we quickly became fans. We have never waivered with our loyalty to the Braves. I grew up loving Dale Murphy, crushing on Ryan Klesko, respecting each and every player and their skills loving them through today. My son now loves them just as much (after years of trying not to, but thanks to Ronald Acuna, Jr he has come around). Love my Braves!
Francisco Cabrera will never be forgotten. I was 11 watching that game. Everybody in the house was sleeping and i i woke everybody up with my screams of joy. One of the best moments of my life!!!
I was at that game in 92. I know they didn't win the WS that year, but that was the best baseball game ever. We used to go see the Braves when I was a kid. Saw Hank Aaron play and Chief Knock-a-homa! The Braves will always be my favorite ❤

1991 - They played in the greatest WS ever and were worthy opponents in a 1-0 10 inning Game 7 battle. 1992 - They went 6 deep with an ultra talented Jays team after making an incredible comeback to beat the Pirates. 1993 - In one of the greatest division races ever, somehow they prevailed over SF. They ran into a red hot, highly motivated Phils team. 1994 - Who knows what might have happened. 1995 - They got it done. 1996 - They ran all the way to the WS and took a 2-0 lead and nearly went up 3-1 before Leyritz marched the Yankees back and into the foundation of a dynasty. 1997 - Winning 103, they had no trouble until they met the $$ rich Marlins. 1998 - This time they won 106 but fell to a team that was similar to the 1993 Phillies, the 1998 Padres 1999 - They dominated the NL in the regular season and playoffs. The 1999 Yanks were almost as good as the 1998 Yanks. While winning more championships might have been nice, the journey each year was a lot of fun to witness because they dominated for long stretches of time!
@@MGAF688 Not sure everyones knocking down the door for the 1991 world series being the greatest world series either. I'm sure it was awesome though and up there.. but I mean the greatest world series, is probably going to be based off ones opinion.. unless theirs a overwhelming agreement within the industry that this is so.
Went to college in Atlanta, from the north east in 89 and fell in love with the braves. To this day they have a special place in my heart. Maddox, Glavin, Chipper, Lemke. The dream team. Bobby Cox. The best.
Michael Montalto as a yankee fan,, Greg Maddux is my favorite out of the 90s Braves rotation. He doesn’t care how many strikeouts he will have, he just pitch to win.
Honestly Greg Maddux is in the top 5 of pitchers I actually saw pitch. He really didn’t throw that hard but man could he spot his pitches. I’d say him, Steve Carlton, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, and Dave Stewart were the five best the I saw. Not necessarily in that order
Maddux... where do I begin ? I guess complete games with a win n less than 100 pitches ? Not a fastball or strikeout pitcher... put da damned ball where he wanted. Did I mention 14 (?) Gold gloves? Etc.
@Erich Von Manstein I misspoke. Not going to edit it. Maddux was a hero of mine. My age... Tommy too- and js . Your mention of Warren Span leads me to assume you are from Atlanta or Buffalo. Avery was awesome - to bad it was short lived. Wholers was the best closer in that time. I could go on and on about the great pitching rotation and bullpen, then about the in/outfielders of that era... Nixon , Treadway, Blouser, Dye, even Dion S. I was @ the Bream miracle game
World's largest strike zone up until the world series. It completely explains why the 90s braves only won 1. He had great stuff, but had a strike zone a full 4 inches wider than Nolan Ryan.
I'm so glad I found this video. With all that's going on in the world in May of 2020, it sure was nice to spend 45 minutes reliving the 90's Braves and how much joy they brought to my life. Yeah they broke my heart a lot in the postseason (with the exception of 95), but baseball is special in that they play 162 regular season games just to get to the playoffs. With such a long season and playing almost every day the journey becomes just as impactful as the destination.
This team made me fall in love with baseball. Nothing was greater to me than at the end of the day after school, practice, or a long day of playing in the summer, just sitting down and watching the Braves on TBS every night while I did my homework or ate dinner. The Atlanta Braves are one of the best parts of my childhood.
Maddux comment at the end, his voice cracks a tiny bit, " it's even more special to share it with these guys". Touchy, what a great trio the best ever. Great team!
As fun as it was to watch this video rekindling those great memories, it was 1000 times more fun actually living through that incredible run. Many heartbreaks but man, the triumphant feeling watching the Braves' success running off those division championships, league championships and obviously the '95 World Series win, I don't think there will ever be a more satisfying stretch of excellence for me as a fan of this outstanding organization.
I loved watching this team on TBS in the early 90's. I loved the way they rotated announce teams. First 4.5 innings (I think) they'd have Skip Caray/Don Sutton and then switch them to radio and bring in Pete Van Weiren/Joe Simpson....I swear both Ernie Johnson Jr and Sr were in there as well at times. Or Vice versa. Great times. This was awesome stuff. That 1992 team was even more fun to watch than in '91, and the NLCS finish still makes me feel electric.
I'm glad to say, that I've always loved the Braves ever since I was a kid, growing up in Texas, watching Braves games any chance I could on TBS. Thank You Braves!
The simple fact that people overlooks or fotgets Avery goes to show just how great of a starting rotation they had. As a braves fan, I may be biased but I think it was the best rotation of all time, top to bottom.
Been a Braves fan my whole life thanks to my grandma & dad. This recount of a season that happened when I was 13 years old still brings me tears thinking about it just as the World Series did this year in 2021 did when they finally got another title we’d been waiting on for 26 years.
Thank you Tom Glavine for Game 6 in 1995.. One of the Greatest nights of my life! I was the happiest 18 year old kid in the World. Never could they say we didn't win the big one!
Astros fan here, the Braves were the team of the 90s that pitching lineup will never be duplicated: Smoltz, Glavine, Avery, and the Clark Kent of pitching Gregg Maddux.
I have been a Braves fan for 30 years now. I know in my heart of hearts, this was CLEARLY the team of the 90's. Sadly though, rings do matter and only having one with that much success doesn't help things. IDK if you'll EVER see a team like this again.
The one that hurt the most was the 1997 NLCS loss to the Florida Marlins, a team of expensive mercs put together for one season to win a World Series, then promptly sold off. The Atlanta Braves won over 100 games that season, Denny Neagle won 20 games as a starting pitcher, Chipper Jones hit over 100 RBIs, etc. The team was stacked and really fun to watch. Unfortunately, they just could not unlock that Marlins team. I kept hoping that the wild card Marlins would lose in the first round, no dice. It was a collision course, and the Marlins beat the Braves in 6 games. What a nightmare.
@@camionerosfurgoneros5915because it’s championship or nothing to critics and fairweather sports fans, when realistically you’ll have to settle for less 95% of the time
That run of 14 straight straight is impressive as hell, and I highly doubt a run of dominance like that will ever be duplicated at a top level of sports again. The closest thing I can think of to this the consistency of the Montreal Canadiens from '55-'79, or the New England Patriots of '01-present with 15 division titles in 17 years, including the last 9 in a row. Shows you how good those Braves were
JordanCelica85 But the Patriots have also won 9 AFC Championships and 6 Super Bowls in the past 21 years. The 90's Braves DID win 5 National League Pennants in 9 years, yet only won 1 World Series. In my opinion, having that many successful years, and yet only winning one Title is very disappointing though.
Ryan Blanche Well frankly I disagree. I still say it is a hell of a accomplishment that we should be proud of. If we didn't win the world series at all then I would be disappointed. Besides Football and Baseball are two different sports. You can't compare.
This brings back pleasant memories of TBS coming into our home in the SF Bay Area starting in the late 80's. Back then it was the only opportunity to get a ballgame on TV starting at 4:30 PM. It was quite a novelty back then. As a baseball junkie .....it was very cool to be able to catch an east coast team on a regular basis. Once they became a real powerhouse they stopped being a novelty and became an event that you scheduled around to watch.
I'll never forget watching the Braves on TBS with my dad when we were younger. We were too poor to get the Pirates games, so the Braves became our team. Awesome memories.
To relive this it’s.magical. I remember watching the braves with my mom and brother waking my father up late at night because of the braves. Great memories.
Woe is me who grew up in Buffalo always a fan of the Bills, lived in Atlanta from '85- '95. Game 6 of the '95 world series was the most exciting sports game in my life. Paid $5 for outfield seats and was able to sneak down to 10th row on the 1st base side in the late 80's. That changed overnight.
Lol... only YOU may know MY pain then.. grew up in Eastern NC as a HUGE Braves & Bill's fan (my team pre-Panthers existence) & OMFG did I ever begin my PhD doctoral studies in "Heartbreak" as a 12yr old in 1991.

I love this team... no matter how many people come and go i always know my braves will be there all summer
The Yankees won 3 straight and won 5 in a shorter span and beat the Braves twice the Yankees are a far better team than these Braves were...World Series Victories is what matters not division titles..the Braves left WS wins on the table Chokers.

@ Hollywood that's not my logic , that's you're logic and it's DUMB by the way,..I'm saying with all of that talent and 14 times to the playoffs, let me repeat that 14 times in a row winning a division and only coming a way with 1 World Series, the Atlanta Braves are chokers...now lets look at successful teams in sports the Yankees the Celtics; Boston won 8 NBA titles in a row...the team of the 90's was the Yankees not these 14 time division winners with one lonely championship....I would say what the Braves accomplished will never happen again because I'm saying if another team wins 14 division in a row I would say they would win more than 1 little championship...it's really pathetic to win just one in 14 years of making it to the postseason, so yes they are Chokers...if they didn't make the postseason I could not call them chokers they would be called the CUBS of that

Watching this brings me back in time! I'm from Alabama and we have no professional teams so everyone is a Braves fan! Families sat down and watched the Braves every night they played!
I was at the final game against Toronto. I was 12. 3rd baseline about 20-30 rows back. Even though the Braves lost, the energy was unlike anything else. Everyone was on their feet, pounding on the backs of the seats in front of them. I'll bet you could hear it for miles. Of course it was sad and disappointing that they lost, but memories of the 90's Braves are some of my best memories as a kid. We were all lucky to experience that kind of comradery. I do wish that I could get the image of Wayne Gretzky signing autographs from his suite after the game out of my head. He was so happy. God it pissed me off.
That 1993 NL West race was definitely the biggest reason why the Wild Card exists. For a team to lose a 9 game lead and still win 103 games, yet miss the playoffs is hard to fathom. Probably a number of great 2nd place teams in MLB history could have caught fire with a chance to be in the playoffs.
I am a Saints fan living in New Orleans. For some reason growing up in the 80's-90's you could watch only 2 teams the Cubs or the Braves. I became a big Braves fan from 82-95ish. Dale Murphy always will be my favorite baseball player. I still remember the day he got traded. But a great memory of me screaming when David Justice hit the one hr in the series to finally when it all.
I think the reason many along the Gulf Coast, particularly the central Gulf South, only saw two MLB teams regularly back then was because of the two superstations: WTBS and later on TNT, in Atlanta who showed Braves home and away games and WGN, who showed most Cubs home and away games. In an era before ESPN, or satellite TV choices or premium streaming channels or the Internet, those two super stations made generations of fans of both squads before, during, and even after their runs. Especially when it applies to 90's-2005 Braves dynasty. Several Braves fans back in 2016 told me when they found out I was a bit of a Cubs fan that the level of emotion, intensity and excitement when the Cubs won the WS and have continued to be a playoff contender, he said Cubs fans in Chicago, Midwest or nationwide seemed to revel and enjoy this historical moment far more then what Atlanta did back in 1995 with the Braves. Most of them in their own ways sort of insuated they really envied the almost riot-like level of excitement Cubs fans seemed to display when their team finally won it all and wished other Atlanta sports fans in general, not just Braves fans, were capable of showing such diehard, fanatical levels of devotion. The Falcons over the past decade have been one of the best teams in the NFL and have had their best, most consistent run of success from 2008-2017, culminating in the Falcons making the franchise's second SB appearance in team history, and the first in nearly 20 years.
@@davidroberts7282 Yep and we also got to watch Michael Jordan and the Bulls on WGN here in the South. The 90's was something else for sports. I personally can not stand the style of basketball played the past 10-15 years in the NBA. The 80's and 90's were the best period as far as I am concerned regarding the NBA. I prefer watching those old games here on youtube even though I know how it is going to turn out lol. I have preferred college sports over professional for the past 20 years except baseball. MLB is still imo the best professional sport to watch to this day.
Ted Turner may have bought the team to eat up TV time on TBS. But what he also did was make Braves County possible. As a 40 year old man I've been a Braves fan since 1990 because of TBS. Thanks Ted Turner for making me a part of Braves County all the way from Tucson Arizona.
I don’t think Justice was taking a rip at the Braves fans. The media likes to put a crazy spin on things to sell headlines. They did then and still do.

Those were great years with TBS having a game on almost every night it seemed, made it easy to be a fan, great years. Got to see them play two games in Arlington against the Rangers.
I became a fan in 1991 and stopped after I got tired of them coming up short all the time, in 2001. But for that 10+ year period there wasnt a bigger Braves fan.
I watched America Team of the 1980s went to many games and you could have a whole section to yourself. By 1992 it was almost impossible to get a Braves ticket. All that matters is that in 1995 we won it all....and yes it was a hell of ride being a Braves fan also. I never missed a game on TV. I was a Braves Fan and still a Braves Fan.
Grew up watching the Braves and was a huge fan when Dale Murphy played and even bigger fan with Chipper and the gang. Loved it when Justice hit that Homer when he was struggling. Maddox, Smolzty and Glavine -- wow. Should they have won a couple more? Probably - but they did win in 95 - so did my Huskers in football.
I grew up in the 70's in Florida and the only live MLB games in the state Floridians could attend were Spring training games. In March of 1975 my dad took me to a Braves vs. Yankees game. The Yankees side of the stadium was packed with Yankees fans and there was NO getting in close proximity to any of the Yankees players, but along the 3rd base/left field line there was plenty of standing room along a fence that was 4 feet high. The visitor's " bullpen " was in between the playing field and this fence. I vividly remember Max Leon warming up with Biff Pocoroba and I was mesmerized by the sound Max Leon's fastball. After finishing their bullpen session he and Biff Pocoroba came over to the fence to sign autographs and chat with the fans. I was 9 years old and both of them were 21 or 22 years old but they were taller than me and wearing real MLB uniforms so they were men to me. I was wearing my yellow little league baseball cap so imagine my surprise when I handed my program to Mr. Leon to sign and he said to me, " Chu play bazeboll ? " I replied, " Yes sir, I play baseball. " He continued talking to me, asking me what position I played. At that time I had played every position on the field except right field and that was my response, Biff Pocoroba then asked me what was my favorite position to play. " Pitcher and third base. " I replied. " Chu must hab a good arm keed. " said Mr. Leon. My dad interjected, " He does, he's got the strongest arm on his team. " It was after that, that I heard this piece of advice, " Dun teach him how to throw da curb ball, E's bad for da arm. " he said to my dad. I became an instant Braves fan and I stuck with them ever since. we finally got cable TV service in our area in 1981 then the strike wiped out 2/3 of the season but I remained a Braves fan even through their dismal 54-106 1988 season and beyond.
I LIVE IN NJ YANKEE TERRITORY BUT DURING THE 1990 SEASON ON TBS I FOUND MYSELF ROOTING FOR THE BRAVES AND I REALISED THAT THE ATLANTA BRAVES WERE JUST THE BEST BASEBALL GAMES AS FAR AS ENTERTAINMENT AND THE REST OF MY LIFE IV BEEN A BRAVES FAN THE MOST ENJOYABLE EXCITING BASEBALL TEAM EVER ON TBS
What a great time to be alive. I remember the key point in the 96 World Series was leaving glave in too long in the 7th in game 3, that’s when it became 6-3. We lost the momentum and never got it back unfortunately. I agree with Smotlz even they we didn’t win more World Series we always had a chance and that may have been more special.
We can all say the RINGS matter and yes I agree but dag gummit any baseball fan who grew up in the 90's had to know that the Atlanta Braves had one of the greatest decade runs in baseball and it was truly special to watch from my tv on TBS in Virginia and I'm still honored to be a life long Braves fan my nickname was given Chop Chop..
What I remember most is Derik Jeter in 90's hitting home runs in the World Series and play offs to beat teams the Yankees won 4 WS in what 6 year span Yankees more successful than the Braves WS rings matter more than a division title...they were sorta like the Bills in Football they finally got lucky.
What I would give to have just ONE pitcher in our rotation today playing at a Maddux/Glavine/Smoltz level. Pitching is the only thing holding today's Braves back.
The starting rotation to die for with Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz who also had 1st class help from Avery then Denny Neagle, then Kevin Millwood. It seems nowadays starting rotations of this standard are unlikely to be seen again. The trend towards every pitcher having one or two innings, essentially relief pitchers going every night has been shown to be as an effective strategy to avoid paying big money for pitching. Even if that never becomes the norm its unlikely any pitchers in the future will get an opportunity to win 300 games like the best of the 90s era pitchers achieved. Roll on tonight as its WS time again for Atlanta.
Welcome to a new decade Braves. You've started it with a bang. As long as you can hang onto those free agents, you have a real shot at dominating the next nine years.
@@pp3k3jamail The Yankees were the team of the '90s in terms of World Series titles ('96, '98, '99...and then won another in 2000) but they did not dominate for the entire decade. They came into the picture in the second half of the decade. There's really no excuse for the Braves not winning at least two but doing what the Yankees did is probably never going to happen again. The Giants somehow won three in five years but didn't even reach the postseason in the in-between years and have become completely irrelevant now. No team in either league has repeated since the Yankees won three straight (1998-2000) and thanks to the 1996 collapse by the Braves, the Big Red Machine (1975-1976) is the last NL team to win back-to-back World Series.

In 1994 the Yankees were 70-43 best record in the AL and was 9-0 vs Cleveland during the season when the MLB strike hit. 1995 the Yankees should've beaten Seattle and went to the ALCS, but the Yankees blew a 2-0 series lead. Also it doesn't matter that Atlanta won the most games in the 90s because do you know who won the most games in the decade of the 80s? That would be the New York Yankees and nobody says the Yankees are the team of the 80s.
I watched the Braves in the 80s and 90s. In the 80s, man did they suck, but all I had was the superstation and they did have Dale Murphy back then but that was it. But the the 90s came and they were for real. But after the 94 strike, I gave up on baseball and I probably haven't watch 10 games since then. That strike broke my heart and baseball was never the same to me after that.
Same here lol. I remember watching the 1992 World Series at the GA State Fair...can't remember which game but I remember that darn Joe Carter of the Blue Jays that series lol
I remember that night that the Fulton County Stadium press box caught on fire. The Braves had just gotten Fred McGriff and they were about to play the St. Louis Cardinals ( I'm a Cards fan). It was a big night for Atlanta, having acquired McGriff. After the fire I was hoping that the game would still be played, but it was postponed. Even as a Cardinals fan, I wanted to see Fred McGriff.
My parents were from Buffalo so we were Bills fans. As a boy born in Atlanta? I was a Braves fan. I got to grow up having tons of dreams in the backyard playing ball with my brother and friends. All those names from those teams. Wow! So thankful!
90's Braves should have 3 rings: 1991, 1995 and 1996 . 92/93 Jays and 1999 Yankees were better. Three main reasons the team didn't win more: bullpen (alot of 8th inning blown saves) poor bench and errors. The documentary doesn't even touch on the 100-win powerhouses the 2002 and 2003 Braves were with Javier Lopez, Rafael Furcal and Gary Sheffield. Could not even get out of the first round. Those were the most bitter and frustrating days.
Agree completely. In 1991 the teams were so evenly matched, really could have went either way but a couple mistakes like Lonnie Smith's baserunning was the difference. 96 was the one that got away. 2003 team with Sheffield hitting everything in sight was frustrating to see them lose in the first round. Braves bats usually went ice cold in October.
@@savitchkaspersky913 I don't think they should've won the World series in 1996 I mean they're up 2-0 then the Yankees blitzed them the next 4 games in a row that ain't no accident. Also the World series that the braves did win in 1995 they shouldn't have Cleveland was a better team. The only World series you can probably say that the braves actually should have won was 1991 against the twins. Or maybe one of those other years that the braves didn't make it to the World series but choked in like the NLDS. The braves benefited from playing in a easy division Phillies were garbage except for 1993 when they were good the Mets were garbage and the Marlins outside of that 97 season didn't do anything. The braves wouldn't even have went to all those World series if they were in like the American league East with Baltimore who are good boston was good Toronto who was good the Yankees were good. Also the title of the video says 90s not 2000s so that's why they probably didn't touch on the brave teams in the 2000s.
I lived 40 minutes south of Atlanta in the '70s and made it a point to go the home Dodgers games (and Reds) at old Fulton Cty. Stadium. Talk about a stacked team!
They were somewhat like baseball's 1985 Chicago Bears. One dominant and impressive championship season and 3 or 4 more championships that they left on the table.
And now the Braves have won their 2ND World Series championship in Atlanta. :-) The 2021 Braves weren't expected at the beginning of the year to go all the way yet that's exactly where they went. The Braves teams of the '90s were among the favorites every year. I'm a Blue Jays fan so I know full well what was happening in Atlanta. The Jays won their 1st championship against that mighty Braves team in '92. And although I was cheering for the Cleveland Indians to win it in '95, looking back on it, it was good for the Braves to finally nail down that elusive championship and vindicate their success during that period. :-)
I remember those lean years fondly. My best friend and I would buy 7 dollar tickets on a Friday or Saturday night; drink 2 dollar beers and enjoy the greatest game ever played.
I went to probably 50+ games in the mid to late '70s at Fulton Cty Stadium; we always sat in the bleachers behind LF. $2 tickets and free parking on a nearby street. The Braves stank but we got to see the Garvey era Dodgers, Big Red Machine and "We Are Family" Pirates, and even occasionally a Brave win.
I always liked Steve Avery and he was a good solid pitcher who should be sitting up there with the other 3 legends. I am a Red Sox fan but I'm also a Braves fan and I started watching them around 91. They were fun to watch. I liked Ron Gant and Chipper Jones, clutch players like Terry Pendelton and David Justice. I was a pitcher in LL and always watched Greg Maddox just so I could learn how he threw and how picked his leg up, everything his whole mechanics and Chipper Jones cause I played the hot box. Man those were the days,
THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS WILL NEVER WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP You Are So Dam Right, I’m A White Sox Fan, Cubs Were Stupid 4 That, But He Would’ve Never Won A World Series With The Cubs
Maddux wanted a ring and calculated correctly that he had no chance while with the Cubs. I am a Cubs fan and don't blame Maddux a bit for going to a team that in his mind had a better opportunity to have postseason success.
I was fortunate enough to go to a Chicago white Sox vs the Detroit Tigers sometime in the early to mid 90's at Comiski park it seemed fairly new at the time but getting to watch Cecil Fielder & Frank Thomas two of my favorite long ball hitters have batting practice them play I remember it like it was just yesterday it was kind of dark and cloudy and the wind would cut you into it must have been 45 degrees but felt like it was 10 with the wind uo . I also remember them giving me a baseball card book/holder half full of white Sox cards
My own journey full fledge Braves fan the last few years has its own personal journey and many other fans have their own story. Personally, I never want to come off as asserting myself as the “Greatest Braves fan ever” or the most knowledgeable about every single stat, player, moment or event in this franchise’s history. I’m just a big a fan of other longtime fans with great stories. I just appreciate being here as a fan today more than anything. Even watching the team’s history from afar growing up for myself is one thing but to fully embrace this fandom is another story. I love this game so hardcore because of this organization. I can say that after living in other places with MLB teams and never gravitating towards fandom of those teams til I moved here full time and it clicked instantly. I respect every MLB franchise equally, the game itself is the best part, this is just my own personal story. I just know I was always meant to be a Braves fan so I mostly admire and respect the team’s history with the utmost respect as a fan while mostly investing energy into where they are today and going forward.
*My path to full fledge..let’s add that as a replacement in the first sentence. And remove respect from the last couple sentences so it isn’t repeated twice. TH-cam doesn’t let you edit anymore ;(
Honestly I think it was a good thing they didn’t get Barry Bonds. The whole reason the Braves were as good as they were was because they actually liked playing together. Barry toxic attitude from that time would’ve distributed that.
Barry D. Thank you for sharing some insight about what being a Braves’ fan means to you. Cheers to you and your Dad.
That's beautiful I'm a braves lifer as well
RIP to your father. I grew up a yankee fan in the 90’s but couldn’t help but like those Braves teams as a kid. Even playing against them in the World Series twice that decade. I bought a Braves cap when I was 10 from my towns sports store and came home with it on. My Dad was so mad lmao.
Great story!
My Grandma was a huge Braves fan but she died about 5 years ago. I always liked the Braves but didn't make it a point to see every game, but now that she's gone I've seen every single game.
You're finally Champions again Braves - Congrats from a Red Sox Fan !!!
Thanks classy for you to say that!!
Thanks! The Red Sox are my favorite AL team.

But still ain't better than the 90s Atlanta braves
I grow up thinking this was the norm for baseball
then after it was over
I realized the greatness of the Atlanta braves in 90s
Same, I was in elementary school and the school would let us wear Braves gear everytime they won the NL Pennant. It was normal.
1 World Series ring is not greatness.
To be as competitive as we were for as long as we were... sure I agree with you the championships weren't as plentiful as we would have like but looking back I wouldn't trade it for anything.
The dodgers are about halfway there right now
It may not lead to another 10+ year streak of division titles, but I have a feeling a few more young stars coming up and some trades will lead to a dynasty in the coming decade.

Facts!!! So much fun
They're in the world series tonight!!

Francisco Cabrera will never be forgotten. I was 11 watching that game. Everybody in the house was sleeping and i i woke everybody up with my screams of joy. One of the best moments of my life!!!

I was a 28 year old man and did the same! A truly great memory!
I was at that game in 92. I know they didn't win the WS that year, but that was the best baseball game ever. We used to go see the Braves when I was a kid. Saw Hank Aaron play and Chief Knock-a-homa! The Braves will always be my favorite ❤

Tom Glavine, Greg Maduxx and John Smoltz. Three of the greatest pitchers, but my all time favorite Braves player will always be Dale Murphy.
McGriff was my favorite player. Dude was a clutch hitting machine
My favorite Brave of all time is Steve Avery …..
I am so fortunate to have watched the Braves growing up in the 90’s.
1998 - This time they won 106 but fell to a team that was similar to the 1993 Phillies, the 1998 Padres
1999 - They dominated the NL in the regular season and playoffs. The 1999 Yanks were almost as good as the 1998 Yanks.
While winning more championships might have been nice, the journey each year was a lot of fun to witness because they dominated for long stretches of time!
You should since you guys had the friendliest strike zone in baseball during the decade.
I'm assuming by 'friendliest strike zone', you mean one of the best starting rotations in MLB history, in which case you would be correct.
@@andrewellington9503 not saying that isnt true, but the strikezone was glorious its a well known fact your team wasnt getting calls in Atlanta
Went to college in Atlanta, from the north east in 89 and fell in love with the braves. To this day they have a special place in my heart. Maddox, Glavin, Chipper, Lemke. The dream team. Bobby Cox. The best.
Greg Maddux was the greatest pitcher I've ever watched play the game. He deserved more than 1 world series. -mM
Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine. Justice, Chipper and McGriff. Unreal talent on both sides of the ball.
When your watching a story about the 90's and the 90's seem like it was just yesterday to you...lol
Yes everything about the 90s I miss

Great team!
Maddux is more known as a cub than brave thx
Wish I was old enough to been able to watch this dynasty unfold. Insane talent. Unbelievable run. Respect.
So well said!⚾
I loved watching this team on TBS in the early 90's.
Yes, I agree! First team to watch with my grandpa from Japan when I was a kid... This started during the Dale Murphy, Glen Hubbard, Bob Horner era.
Indeed -- definitely.

When I was a kid me and my daddy watched the games I'm 29 now and he passed away when I was 14 but the times we had watching the braves was priceless.
Everyone forgets about Steve Avery, 1991 NLCS MVP. Struck out Bonds 7 of 8 times in 2 1-0 shutouts.
The simple fact that people overlooks or fotgets Avery goes to show just how great of a starting rotation they had. As a braves fan, I may be biased but I think it was the best rotation of all time, top to bottom.
He was my hero growing up!
Avery was one of my favorites growing up!

Astros fan here, the Braves were the team of the 90s that pitching lineup will never be duplicated: Smoltz, Glavine, Avery, and the Clark Kent of pitching Gregg Maddux.
How were the Yankees not the team of the decade? The Yankees won 3 straight ws, and the braves one 1
Yankees were the team of the 90s.
I hope my Mets can win something in my lifetime 😂
I have been a Braves fan for 30 years now. I know in my heart of hearts, this was CLEARLY the team of the 90's. Sadly though, rings do matter and only having one with that much success doesn't help things. IDK if you'll EVER see a team like this again.
Unfortunately, you’re correct.
Dynasties are measured by titles, not regular season successes.
The Yankees were the team of the late 90’s to 2000.

The Detroit Red Wings made 26 straight playoff appearances winning 4 Cups and 6 Finals appearances.
Jim Kennedy And? Did they win there division 14 straight? It’s still a great accomplishment
LUIS SOTO yep the Braves had the Mets Phillies and expos back in the 90s

The Braves reached the World Series plenty of times...so we should focus more on why they only won one World Series out of five rather than focusing on 14 division titles. 1991 and 1996 were the two they definitely had control of and didn't get it done (up 3-2 in 1991 and up 2-0 in 1996).
@@87Khein To win a World Series you have to get in the playoffs; 14 times in a row making it into the playoffs and the Braves could only win one WS that's pathetic; taking your way of thinking the Yankees made the WS 1996,98,99,2000,01,03..6 times and won 4 WS you tell me who is the better team and beating the Braves twice in the WS 1996, 1998...the team of the 90's by far is the New York Yankees.
@@JohnnyBGood11 In the 90s, they weren't pathetic as much as they were unlucky. 91, 92, and 96 WS were very close, they lost 9 out of 10 one-run games across those three series. In the naughts, they were essentially the top of a weak division and running into better teams in the playoffs.
@@catsnchords The Yankees in a shorter span won 5 World series and took two tuff losses in the 9th inning in two world series. If the Braves were as great as people say those games should have not been close....with that team they should have at the worst won 3 or 4 world series and they came a way with one, that's pathetic the Braves left at least 2 more world series on the table...if the Braves would have not won the one they did we're talking Vikings and Bills...are the Brave the team of the 90's regular season???....Yankees were the team of the 90's plus the Yankees beat the braves twice facing off in the world series.
Watching this brings me back in time! I'm from Alabama and we have no professional teams so everyone is a Braves fan! Families sat down and watched the Braves every night they played!
Who's here after Braves win 2021 WS?
me
I was at the final game against Toronto. I was 12. 3rd baseline about 20-30 rows back.
Well, 2021 brings it all full circle!
One of the best 44 minutes I have spent. Great video, and I am a Red Sox Fan.
Still gives me goosebumps, Braves fan for life.
The Wild Card was already planned to go into place the next season. That season was just a striking justification for its existence.
Growing up listening to the Braves on the radio with my granddad cause he was blind in the 80s was awesome...it was nothing like hearing skip cary earnie Johnson call those games...he passed in 86 b4 the Braves got good in 91...even though i was 22 and could watch them on tv every night i still loved to listen on the radio...what a great time to be a Braves fan in the 90s...if it weren't for bad calls and steroids they would have won 3 out of 5 of those world series.
Now we are the 2021 Champs!!
Those were great years with TBS having a game on almost every night it seemed, made it easy to be a fan, great years. Got to see them play two games in Arlington against the Rangers.
I became the fan of braves in 1990, what a wise choice for the next 14 years. I am still die hard brave and will always be
Johnson Hong I started loving this team in 1991. Will never stop
I became a fan in 1991 and stopped after I got tired of them coming up short all the time, in 2001. But for that 10+ year period there wasnt a bigger Braves fan.
Now I'm a Red Sox fan and theyve gotten me plenty of rings to keep me happy.
Ed Reed fucking bandwagon 😂
@@biggchewy1212
Lmao, at least he being honest
The Braves just became world champions, the team of the 90's is back at the top of baseball!!!
They all want to be on the bandwagon
Grew up watching the Braves and was a huge fan when Dale Murphy played and even bigger fan with Chipper and the gang. Loved it when Justice hit that Homer when he was struggling. Maddox, Smolzty and Glavine -- wow. Should they have won a couple more? Probably - but they did win in 95 - so did my Huskers in football.
I was at games 6 and 7 in 1991. Greatest WS ever.
New Jersey people are scum and root for the Mets
What a great time to be alive. I remember the key point in the 96 World Series was leaving glave in too long in the 7th in game 3, that’s when it became 6-3. We lost the momentum and never got it back unfortunately. I agree with Smotlz even they we didn’t win more World Series we always had a chance and that may have been more special.
As a child of the 90s I loved watching the Braves, especially those pitchers...
Watched them dominate the 90's and am still a die hard Atlanta braves fan! Chop on!
Bobby cox knew how to build a team.
This team now isn’t chopped liver!
Yet couldn’t bring home more than one ring.
Should’ve won in ‘91 and ‘96 especially
We're getting there.
We need to get someone in the off season or something soon
They’re getting there....They have came a long way the last few seasons.
There’s been rumors that Justin Verlander might come to Atlanta
Robbie Thompson where’d you see that? That just doesn’t seem to make sense to leave Houston to go to Atlanta
When you have three of the best pictures in the league it's hard not to be this great.
That's unlikely today, players are too greedy
What a beautiful time to be living around Atlanta in those days.
@Hector Rodriguez lamo?? Best team of the 90s!! Who's your team?
@@ginapoliti2167 the Yankees were the team of the 90s not the braves.
@@87Khein Yankees were 88-74 2nd in the division in 1993.
And that makes another one for The Braves :) I wish I saw Jones’ reaction
Wow! Not a braves fan but what a great organization and players who played as a team. Great story
In the 90s I was a Cardinals fan and remember NL rivalry greatly that heated up in 1996 NLCS.
Lloyd Smalley I think the cardinals would of handled the Yankees in 1996 WS
Courtney Gibson Jr I’ve been saying that for 24yrs. If the they could’ve gotten over that hump in games 5,6 and 7 all they need was 1 more win.
I grew up in GA, born in 87 - I literally didn't know it was possible for our team to lose
Same here lol. I remember watching the 1992 World Series at the GA State Fair...can't remember which game but I remember that darn Joe Carter of the Blue Jays that series lol
That’s like me in Edmonton as an Oilers fan being born in 1980. Didn’t know what losing meant.
I grew up in PGH. I didn’t know that I winning baseball team was possible until my junior year of college. 🙁
I grew up in GA, born in 75 - I literally didn't know it was possible for our team to win! and then suddenly!... ALL THEY DID WAS WIN! Go Braves!
Lol, I know right. It was expected that we were going to the playoffs.
My favorite baseball team I grew up watching chipper, andruw, smoltz, all the boys playing great baseball in the 90s
So very lucky to have been able to grow up watching these days. Miss them so much. Justice was my man.
Use to love the Braves on TBS didn’t realize they won 14 consecutive league titles
Those were the most bitter and frustrating days.
the 96 yankees were a team of destiny
Considering Jeffrey Maier, maybe you are correct.
I'll disagree. You don't beat the Yankees in game 1 and 2 at Yankee Stadium then blow off the next 3 games at home.
I loved watching these 90s Braves teams as a kid, Dodger fan and Baseball fan, in general.
I lived 40 minutes south of Atlanta in the '70s and made it a point to go the home Dodgers games (and Reds) at old Fulton Cty. Stadium. Talk about a stacked team!
That's 90s team was the dream team all in their prime and at every position they were loaded. So Hard to believe they didn't won more rings.
Their thin pitching depth, lack of a true closer and lack of clutch hitting cost them more times than it didn’t
From a Yankees fan…. A tip of my hat. I remember the Braves of the 90’s. I wish the Yankees were a good opponent for you guys now.
Braves were a damn good team throughout the '90s. That said as a Jays fan I LOVED beating them in '92. ;-) :-)
I grew up on the Braves, they will always be my team!!
They were somewhat like baseball's 1985 Chicago Bears. One dominant and impressive championship season and 3 or 4 more championships that they left on the table.
Three or four at least.
I watched most of these games and was floored by the pitching staff....what a Great time❤💋😊
I loved the 90s Braves. They were so good
And now the Braves have won their 2ND World Series championship in Atlanta.
LOVED growing up watching these guys!
My dad still has the 1995 Atlanta Braves World Champions hat and T-shirt. It’s on the wall in the den. Also a baseball from that game.
Chloe Hennessy ask your dad if hed sell it
He’s going to hand it down to my son or daughter when I’m married and have children.
Man those were the days,
I loved watching Greg Maddux but god damn the cubs are stupid for letting him go

@@cfdmedicambo68relf7 I think you're wrong if they kept Maddux I think guys would have wanted to go to the cubs, losing him cost them free agents
Greg was ready to sign, but Larry Himes the GM, pulled the contract off the table.
Barry toxic attitude from that time would’ve distributed that.
looking at the names on the back of the jerseys reminds me of so many memories watching these braves play on tbs in north carolina...
