- Mandatory evacuations are underway across the west coast of Florida as millions of residents prepare for life-threatening impacts from Hurricane Milton, which continues to rapidly intensify over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
On Monday, Milton strengthened into a powerful Category 5 storm with winds of 180 mph. As of early Tuesday morning, Milton had slightly weakened to Category 4 but is forecast to restrengthen and grow in size.

We booked an AirBNB in Georgia. If you are going to evacuate DO NOT wait till your cars gas tank reaches E, fill up at half tank. Gas stations have zero gas, and when you find one gas goes extremely fast! Traffic is also stop and go, so make plans to leave early. Safe travels!

In Puerto Rico Hurricane Maria was Cat4 or 5 and it was awful. didn't leave a single tree without leaves and many broken trees, not to mention the floods and the terrifying wind. My prayers for Florida, protect yourselves and if you can, save your belongings and leave, it's better because it's very strong and Florida has already had 2 hurricanes if I'm not mistaken. Save plenty of drinking water and buy radios to stay informed and solar chargers. Not to mention saving plenty of food and filling your vehicles' gas tanks. Be alert to the media and be very careful, this is not rain nor is it a game.

It dissipates quickly when going inland. However, the rain combined with clogged drainage systems causes localized flooding. A lot of places away from the coast effectively become islands.

However strong it gets today determines how strong it will be when it affects Florida. Example if it is at 150mph today it’ll be around 100-110 when it makes landfall. If it’s at 180mph it’ll be around 120-130mph
