I feel like 90% of the DBZ fanbase is only satisfied with Future Gohan(The one from Future Trunks timeline) bc his life got so horrible that he *HAD* to focus on being a fighter. Yet when they see him actually living the life he wants, he gets so much hate. It’s insane
The problem with Gohan has nothing to do with him living a peaceful life. The issue is that this power up of his doesn't feel earned. He isn't a fighter he rarely trains but somehow shits out a transformation that is supposedly more powerful then MUI Goku or UE Vegeta. With this transformation Gohan probably had the biggest increase in power anyone has ever seen.

I think a lot of us have a soft spot for future gohan because he is the main timeline gohan we all grew up watching on early dbz times. Trunks changed all that when he time travelled. That future timeline was the original timeline

It was clearly stated that Hybrids are stronger than full bloods. So no matter how much goku and vegeta trained, Gohan would always eventually be stronger in most cases, he was. He did more damage to raditz than goku did. He did damage to 2nd and 3rd form freeza. He got ssj2. He had his ultimate form. Like this isn't a new thing with gohan. 2. If you paid attention to the manga and even the anime, Gohan's consistently trained (this is proved even more in the manga) 3. This series is built on bs power ups. Piccolo not fighting nappa just for him to fuse and be equal to 2nd form freeza. The cyborgs naturally being stronger than freeza. Gohan in general. Goten and trunks. Piccolo and kami. Broly in general. Like this isn't new. But because it's super and Gohan, you have an issue with it.
I think the DBS episode of Pan flying was her flying involuntarily because she was still a very young baby but I think in this movie she learned how to consciously fly, that’s how I’m explaining it at least
Akira Toriyama started as a gag mangaka so comedy has always been his go to. Dragon Ball itself started as a gag martial arts adventure but beginning with the Saiyan arc developed a more serious tone, which is something Toriyama wasn't so fond of and so with the Buu arc (and so on) he brought back the more comedic elements.
Bulma is ABSOLUTELY the kind of person who would wish for cosmetic improvements, she's ridiculously vain and selfish, it's just that she can put that aside when things really matter, but she's definitely got a bratty side, you should have seen her in the original namek saga, she didn't do much to help and spent most of the time complaining every time Gohan and Krillin came back from risking their lives. Also surgery has drawbacks and can be obvious, so wishing to have yourself (or parts of yourself) magically be turned younger with no downsides is the preferable option that money can't buy. I don't endorse what she's doing, but I can understand why she's doing it.
That is only an issue in the real world, technology in DBS is much more advanced than ours irl we are literally hunter-gatherers or cavemen in comparison

That's partially true. The issue with Gohan's character is that the man who wrote him, wrote him differently at different times. Particularly at the end of the cell saga we have a bunch of quotes from him, that you would consider completely out of character (because they are "I am now a fighter" quotes). And on the manga after this movie there are also MULTIPLE quotes that you would consider completely out of character (because they are, "now i am back to what I was" quotes) . Gohan as a character is not really a family man OR a fighter. And yet he is BOTH if you look at the entirety of the manga. Of course this makes no sense without its context. And that context is that Akira changed his mind TWICE. EDIT: Also Steph has the right idea in her comment here. The original idea was that this was PUSHED on him.

Gohan's new form is called "Beast". The only information from this form is that it's a evolved form of Gohan's Ultimate transformation and that Toriyama stated that "it's a sensation that the wild beast within has awakened"

Yeah, I guess Super tried to individualize every character's transformations. Definitely not so they can sell more toys, nope. :D If I recall, originally Gohan wasn't even meant to be in the movie, it was supposed to be a Piccolo focused one. But then they threw Gohan in and of course he needed a new transformation too, if Piccolo got one.

If you want to know why Cell Max is Second Form Cell design wise... that was Toriyama's personal favorite Cell design, that's it really. He just wanted to do more with it since it didn't really last all that long in the OG Manga and stuff.

Dragon ball started as a gag manga so it has always been silly. If you remember Arale from the episode in super she is from Dr Slump which was toriyamas first manga and was also a gag manga. Dragon ball started as a gag manga as well but with a more serious tone which gets more serious around the middle of og dragon ball.

The problem with people like you (don't get this the wrong way) is that you've never seen OG Dragon Ball. When you do you will see this type of comedy all the time including jokes with the wishes, this is nothing new. This is a frequent complaint with people who start with DBZ where the tone is much more serious but you need to realize that Dragon Ball started as a comedy that slowly turned into battle manga.

To summarize the new form, it's basically the evolved state of Ultimate Gohan and it's officially named Beast. At first, Ultimate Gohan wasn't a form, it was just all of Gohan's dormant power released into base so it reduced the need of transformations. When DB super rolled back around, it was changed to a form since gohan needed to transition between SSJ and the Ultimate form. Gohan also foreshadows the beast form when he fights Goku when being recruited for the tournament of power.
Yeah I highly disagree with you, the franchise has always been both goofy as hell in a good way and very serious at times, that’s part of its appeal. You haven’t seen OG or Z so it doesn’t really make sense for you to assume that it’s supposed to be serious all the time when that’s never been the case.

I'm sure the Nameless Namekian, from which Kami and King Piccolo split from, left Namek. I never knew why, always thought he was running away from something he didn't want. If he was born into a warrior clan, and he was gentle and kind, would explain why he left. But, then he was charged to be the Earth's Guardian, and therefore had to be pure. So, he had to rid himself of his evil, and therefore split into good and evil halves of himself. Kami originally wanted to hand the guardianship off to Goku, first chance he could, though. Really, Goku?! He wouldn't ever leave the live of a warrior behind to become a reclusive monk living on top of an almost floating sky palace. And Piccolo didn't want the job when Kami fused back with him, because, well, I think he didn't think he was pure enough for the job, since he was technically not only the son of King Piccolo (the elder evil half) but also his reincarnation. Took forever for him to get outta that mindset of constantly thinking about killing Goku. But, doesn't every villain in the DB universe?

The nameless Namek fled and everyone else was destroyed except Guru, who they repopulated Namek. Everything about you said about the nameless namekian is true but I don’t understand how his two halves split into beings from different clans. Unless it’s something they can choose? Or maybe it’s decided at birth and his split was like a new birth?

But, Team Four Star makes fun of that very problem in the episode--56 of DBZ Abridged, I believe--when they need to pick a new guardian. Before settling on Dende, they ask if Piccolo could take the job. He says no, that he's from the warrior clan and Kami was from the dragon clan. One punches stuff, the other creates Dragon Balls. Gohan, rightly, points out that didn't he and Kami come from the same person? But, Piccolo brushes the question away with a new interruption that they'll need someone of the dragon clan to be guardian. Oh, also, in DBZ Abridged, they call that great storm on Namek the Great Drought and that it was terrifying, but not for the dehydration, but for the.fact that in the parody show, there WERE such things as Albino Namekians before the drought. Now there aren't any. You figure out what happened with that.

The wishes only became more serious in Dragonball Z because so many characters died and needed to be brought back to life for plot convenience.
I'd say the characters are very consistent ( aside from feeling like Goku's being dumbed down ) but It's also very understanding to feel like things are mellowing out or feeling disappointed because they aren't what they used to be.
OH and one thing I want to clarify, it's SOMEWHAT implied that when Gohan "snaps" he goes to his highest potential "at the time." In the Cell games he hit 2, and here as Mystic and his "power unlocked" he hits this Beast form. The snap itself is supposedly his "mature" version of when he was a kid and got so angry he'd power-up and go nuts... so supposedly it's the same thing, just scales to his current body and strength. Supposedly.
Fusion doesn’t work just because you do the dance right, you have to match your power levels exactly to fuse. It’s explained in DBZ when they introduced it.

Not really. Unlike Goku or Vegeta, Gohan was never really a fighter and only did so when he was forced or had to. His interest has always been in academics - he mentioned since 4 years old during the Saiyan arc that he wanted to grow up to be a scholar. This is his natural progression. But, I do agree about Videl. She went from being a tough martial artist who often fought crime to somewhat an ordinary housewife - though this movie at least lets us know that she is still into martial arts.
And I love it because it makes him unique from everyone else.

I am actually glad that this movie is mostly centered around Piccolo and Gohan. And Goku and Vegeta are on the sidelines. A lot of people had mixed feelings about the animation. I did, too. But I saw the movie in theaters and I had a blast. Dragon Ball Diama has 2d animation for the most part. I am waiting for the English dub. Fun fact,The person who voiced kid Goku in Dragon Ball in the English dub is gonna voice Goku again in Dragon Ball Diama.
Soooo, Androids are basically robots deigned to look like living creatures. Cyborgs are a mix of artificial technology and creatures that were once human. 17 and 18 are Cyborgs, while the rest of the creations are Androids. For example, Android 16, who was built to replicate Dr. Gero's son; who passed away during kid Goku's seige on the Red Ribbon Army during Dragon Ball, is an Android. I hope this helps.

After the Broly arc which is after the tournament of power there are 2 more arcs, (Galactic patrol prisoner arc and Granolah the survivor arc) this movie takes place after those 2 arcs.
Krillin/Kuririn's scleras are white in the manga and in early Dragon Ball episodes, then in the middle of the first tournament arc, they painted it with his skin tone. It's possible it was an coloring error and they just rolled with it, but the anime kept it until Super. Now as Super Hero and Daima has designs made by Toriyama himself, and he was more involved with them, they fixed his eyes. About the android thing, Gero made both androids (fully mechanical) cyborgs (humans enhanced by technology) and also a bio lab moster that's Cell. The thing is, in Japanese they used the word "jinzou ningen" which means "artificial human" and can be used for all three types, most translations uses "android" because the first one introduced, Android 8, was a fully mechanical android, and most languages don't have a term as broad as jinzou ningen was. About Pan flying in the anime, that was anime filler, but it's not uncommon to babies to unlearn things after growing a little, like most babies learn how to swim very well fast, then they can grow up to be scared of swimming and having to relearn it, so I imagine that happened with Pan's flying.

Toriyama is the only writer of this movie. Toyotaro only handles the manga side, and he was still a *CO*-writer, not even as a sole writer. Toriyama still had the main influence until his passing. This movie is entirely by Toriyama, down to every single line of dialogue.
A little bit of context to help better explain the movie. In the manga, you learn a long time ago, Bardock protected a mother and her child because they reminded him of Gine and their children. That child grew up and would eventually become the strongest warrior in the universe. This prompted a gang of planet brokers called the Heeters to plot a way for the kid to fight Goku and Vegeta. Towards the end Frieza came into the picture but with a new power up making him the strongest foe again. To prepare for Frieza Goku and Vegeta grabbed Broly and started training on Beerus world. Mean while Goten and Trunks took up the Great Saiyaman mantle that Gohan use to have and became super Heroes. They would be the model that Hedo would build the Gammas on. So Gamma 1 and 2 are Android versions of Goten and Trunk essentially. The manga goes a little future and you have Gohan in his new form called Gohan Beast, fight Ultra Instinct Goku in a father-son sparing match.
About why Goku is like that now, well, DBZ was made by toriyama AND his editor Yuu Kondo (he made the story more serious, the creation of the androids and vegeta were his idea for example, he put limits to toriyama), but yuu kondo left the project in the middle of majin buu saga. Now db super is full toriyama , and he loves comedy. Cell max was made in the 2nd form because that was the favorite of toriyama : /

You know, in OG DB, yeah, there WERE walking talking animal people everywhere...but, I've noticed when they switched to DBZ, that started to taper off, until whenever they showed a huge crowd scene, I couldn't spot a tiger man or anything. King Furry was the only remnant of a bygone era. Why did that happen?
Goku's characterization and what is the _right way_ is such a can of worms. I read the manga before watching Z and he has very few character moments outside of the crisis of the moment and they tended to be pretty jokey. Him slapping chi chi's shoulder and knocking her through a tree, fishing with Krillin and getting pegged in the face with a rock. Goku would always be on a sidequest before the final battle in Z and have zero character moments while doing it. Both the japanese producers of the anime and english translation favored a more traditional protagonist and that is the version most of the fan base grew up on.
For your mini rant you forget that Super takes place before the end of Z so the characters have to match the end and by the end Vidal was done with fighting and was a mom more than anything.

Cells 2nd form was toriyamas favorite. He actually didn’t come up with perfect cells design his editors did bcuz they said the other forms were to ugly.
He actually came with semi perfect and perfect designs when the editor suggested him to transform, but he wanted him to stay in the semi perfect form longer til the editor complained he looked too goofy.

Bulma hasn't really changed that much from the beginning though. She's always been petty, shortsighted, and vain. It's completely within her character.
Fun fact, Gohan was not actually supposed to be in this movie. He was written in last minute. This was going to be a stand alone piccolo movie. However they wanted Gohan in the movie with Piccolo, and this was how they brought Gohan back.
Overall, they made the right call by doing this. The ToP already established them as their own duo, so having them star in a movie and receive new power ups together killed two birds with one stone.
It's not always required but I like when a movie in a series is built to let anyone jump in. Red Ribbon goes way back to original Dragonball but most people probably remember the androids and Cell, plus it's mostly new stuff to test Piccolo and Gohan. Maybe the opening is long winded but that's just every DBZ movie I think as they show off the characters before half the movie is fighting mileage may vary. Art style takes getting used to, personally I don't mind it and if it lets them make the movies easier or experiment with style I can get enjoy it, just make sure most go back to the original anime style I guess.
Also if nobody else has said yet the reason why they chose this version of Cell is because this was Toryiama's favorite Cell form and he wanted that to be his final form. Also Super has no fillers every episode is canon
The reason it got sillier because of the stakes, in z there were actual threats..in super whenever it got serious goku did get serious, but most of the times they were sure that they gon win..so yea its not that they dumbed him down..he just got a but careless
Bulma's original wish wanted was getting a boyfriend. And literally the first wish we ever see happen in Dragon Ball is Oolong interrupting Pilaf's wish by wishing for panties. It's not "Dragon Ball is becoming silly". It's always been silly. Goku literally sticks a staff right into a ninja's ass and says "Now you've got a tail just like me!". And no, Chichi didn't force Gohan to be a scholar. His first line in the manga introduction is literally him saying he wants to be a scholar when he grows up. He LOVES being a dork, the whole great Saiyaman happens in Z, and Videl joins him on it as the great Saiyaman 2. Super wasn't the one "downgrading" characters. They've been like that since Z. Super is just a continuation of the characters they were already becoming in Z. Hell, you see this man geeking over ants turning yellow? Do you see the ROOM he's in? Fighting has always been just a means for him to get stuff done and protect the ones he loves. And training has just been bonding moments between him and Goku, especially in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. DBS Broly literally explains that Bulma has been using the Dragon Balls constantly to age herself down and she doesn't want surgery because it would be too obvious, and even the best surgeons can mess up, as they're still humans. Doing it with wishes they can basically get yearly due to the technology and how strong/fast they are. Not to mention New Namek's dragon balls are still an option, even if Earth dragon balls are unavailable. Also, I think that his ugly semiperfect form is much better for Cell Max because: 1- It shows he's not in a "Perfect" state. His mind is still not designed to obey so he's quite literally incomplete. 2- It wouldn't work to shows he's a monster. If it was a huge monster that looks like a mewing e-boy then it wouldn't impact as hard. 3- It's MEANT to be ugly. You don't want a handsome monster... D-Do you? Krillin's White Eyes seems to be a Toei thing only, since in DB colored manga he does have white eye thingies. They probably just did it that way because, well, Toriyama never closed Krillin's outlined eyes. So I guess Toei just decided to color them the same way as his skin.
One thing that people don't understand is Gohan in his Base he needed Glasses to see but once he transforms into Super Saiyan 1, 2, his Ultimate Form and Beast he can see fine without Glasses.
I would REALLY recommend you read chapters 101-103 of the Dbs manga as it’s basically a continuation of this movie. And it features some really cool fights involving Gohan, Broly, Goku, and Vegeta. and I’m 99% sure those chapters were fully written by Toriyama before his passing (R.I.P)
Piccolo having his Potential unlocked by Shenron is the Yellow skin form and the Orange Form is the bit extra Orange Piccolo is the BIT EXTRA from Shenron for when he needed it!
So this is canon breaking because anyone who WATCHED dragon Balls super will remember that Pan was flying before she could even crawl properly let alone talk. And this isn't one of those movies where the story doesn't fit IN the timeline like the DBZ movies. THIS HAPPENED in Dragon Ball Super canon. Just Like Battle of Gods; Resurrection F and Broly.

Gohan was not downgraded in Super. He was downgraded in the Buu Saga. He got back in shape to fight Buu. That arc ended, and he did the exact same thing he did after Cell. He quit because he's never liked fighting. He got back in shape for the Tournament of Power. Then he quit again. Super has its flaws, but the Gohan problem started in Z.
55:39 as I like to see it this is gohan tapping into his saiyan instincts something that is fundamentally not him. Unlike goku a natural warrior who has physical limitations gohan has mental limitations because no matter how strong he becomes he just isn’t a warrior. He doesn’t have the heart and soul that enjoys battles in fact given his life experiences I’m not surprised that he would avoid fighting given the trauma he had training to fight vegeta and nappa, the trauma he faced under the threat of freeza, and the pressure during the cell games. Gohan beast like it’s title is him letting the beast out, finding the warriors spirit forced upon him buried deep in his psyche and having it brought up to the surface.

No super shows Gohan being faithful to himself since he has ALWAYS hated fighting and training and getting stronger isnt an obsession to him like it is to Goku. Gohan has always wanted to just enjoy life without worrying about fighting which the world of DBZ never allowed him to have.

In Japanese they're called "artificial humans" and most languages uses Androids as far as I know. That's because the first one introduced, Android 8, was fully mechanical, so the localizers didn't had the hindsight of the series introducing Cyborgs and mutants using the same term later.
So the actual definition of an android is a robot that looks human or humanoid and most of the time believe that they are human although that's not always the case. Cyborgs are part human part robot, which is why the abridged had that whole joke and why it was funny when 16 said, "I am Android 16" because he was actually an android and not a cyborg like 17 and 18

The problem with Gohan has nothing to do with him living a peaceful life. The issue is that this power up of his doesn't feel earned. He isn't a fighter he rarely trains but somehow shits out a transformation that is supposedly more powerful then MUI Goku or UE Vegeta. With this transformation Gohan probably had the biggest increase in power anyone has ever seen.

1. It was clearly stated that Hybrids are stronger than full bloods. So no matter how much goku and vegeta trained, Gohan would always eventually be stronger in most cases, he was. He did more damage to raditz than goku did. He did damage to 2nd and 3rd form freeza. He got ssj2. He had his ultimate form. Like this isn't a new thing with gohan.
2. If you paid attention to the manga and even the anime, Gohan's consistently trained (this is proved even more in the manga)
3. This series is built on bs power ups. Piccolo not fighting nappa just for him to fuse and be equal to 2nd form freeza. The cyborgs naturally being stronger than freeza. Gohan in general. Goten and trunks. Piccolo and kami. Broly in general. Like this isn't new. But because it's super and Gohan, you have an issue with it.

Akira Toriyama started as a gag mangaka so comedy has always been his go to. Dragon Ball itself started as a gag martial arts adventure but beginning with the Saiyan arc developed a more serious tone, which is something Toriyama wasn't so fond of and so with the Buu arc (and so on) he brought back the more comedic elements.
In fact it started out as parody of Journey to the West
Bulma is ABSOLUTELY the kind of person who would wish for cosmetic improvements, she's ridiculously vain and selfish, it's just that she can put that aside when things really matter, but she's definitely got a bratty side, you should have seen her in the original namek saga, she didn't do much to help and spent most of the time complaining every time Gohan and Krillin came back from risking their lives.
Also surgery has drawbacks and can be obvious, so wishing to have yourself (or parts of yourself) magically be turned younger with no downsides is the preferable option that money can't buy.
I don't endorse what she's doing, but I can understand why she's doing it.
That is only an issue in the real world, technology in DBS is much more advanced than ours irl we are literally hunter-gatherers or cavemen in comparison

That's partially true. The issue with Gohan's character is that the man who wrote him, wrote him differently at different times. Particularly at the end of the cell saga we have a bunch of quotes from him, that you would consider completely out of character (because they are "I am now a fighter" quotes). And on the manga after this movie there are also MULTIPLE quotes that you would consider completely out of character (because they are, "now i am back to what I was" quotes) . Gohan as a character is not really a family man OR a fighter. And yet he is BOTH if you look at the entirety of the manga. Of course this makes no sense without its context. And that context is that Akira changed his mind TWICE.

Dragon ball started as a gag manga so it has always been silly. If you remember Arale from the episode in super she is from Dr Slump which was toriyamas first manga and was also a gag manga. Dragon ball started as a gag manga as well but with a more serious tone which gets more serious around the middle of og dragon ball.

The problem with people like you (don't get this the wrong way) is that you've never seen OG Dragon Ball. When you do you will see this type of comedy all the time including jokes with the wishes, this is nothing new. This is a frequent complaint with people who start with DBZ where the tone is much more serious but you need to realize that Dragon Ball started as a comedy that slowly turned into battle manga.
Even in Z they had these comedic jokes too (especially in the buu saga)

To summarize the new form, it's basically the evolved state of Ultimate Gohan and it's officially named Beast. At first, Ultimate Gohan wasn't a form, it was just all of Gohan's dormant power released into base so it reduced the need of transformations. When DB super rolled back around, it was changed to a form since gohan needed to transition between SSJ and the Ultimate form. Gohan also foreshadows the beast form when he fights Goku when being recruited for the tournament of power.

I'm sure the Nameless Namekian, from which Kami and King Piccolo split from, left Namek. I never knew why, always thought he was running away from something he didn't want. If he was born into a warrior clan, and he was gentle and kind, would explain why he left. But, then he was charged to be the Earth's Guardian, and therefore had to be pure. So, he had to rid himself of his evil, and therefore split into good and evil halves of himself. Kami originally wanted to hand the guardianship off to Goku, first chance he could, though. Really, Goku?! He wouldn't ever leave the live of a warrior behind to become a reclusive monk living on top of an almost floating sky palace. And Piccolo didn't want the job when Kami fused back with him, because, well, I think he didn't think he was pure enough for the job, since he was technically not only the son of King Piccolo (the elder evil half) but also his reincarnation. Took forever for him to get outta that mindset of constantly thinking about killing Goku. But, doesn't every villain in the DB universe?

The nameless Namek fled and everyone else was destroyed except Guru, who they repopulated Namek. Everything about you said about the nameless namekian is true but I don’t understand how his two halves split into beings from different clans. Unless it’s something they can choose? Or maybe it’s decided at birth and his split was like a new birth?

But, Team Four Star makes fun of that very problem in the episode--56 of DBZ Abridged, I believe--when they need to pick a new guardian. Before settling on Dende, they ask if Piccolo could take the job. He says no, that he's from the warrior clan and Kami was from the dragon clan. One punches stuff, the other creates Dragon Balls. Gohan, rightly, points out that didn't he and Kami come from the same person? But, Piccolo brushes the question away with a new interruption that they'll need someone of the dragon clan to be guardian.
Oh, also, in DBZ Abridged, they call that great storm on Namek the Great Drought and that it was terrifying, but not for the dehydration, but for the.fact that in the parody show, there WERE such things as Albino Namekians before the drought. Now there aren't any. You figure out what happened with that.

The wishes only became more serious in Dragonball Z because so many characters died and needed to be brought back to life for plot convenience.
I'd say the characters are very consistent ( aside from feeling like Goku's being dumbed down ) but It's also very understanding to feel like things are mellowing out or feeling disappointed because they aren't what they used to be.
Pan's certainly doing much better as Piccolo's student than her father did.
OH and one thing I want to clarify, it's SOMEWHAT implied that when Gohan "snaps" he goes to his highest potential "at the time." In the Cell games he hit 2, and here as Mystic and his "power unlocked" he hits this Beast form. The snap itself is supposedly his "mature" version of when he was a kid and got so angry he'd power-up and go nuts... so supposedly it's the same thing, just scales to his current body and strength.

Not really. Unlike Goku or Vegeta, Gohan was never really a fighter and only did so when he was forced or had to. His interest has always been in academics - he mentioned since 4 years old during the Saiyan arc that he wanted to grow up to be a scholar. This is his natural progression. But, I do agree about Videl. She went from being a tough martial artist who often fought crime to somewhat an ordinary housewife - though this movie at least lets us know that she is still into martial arts.
And I love it because it makes him unique from everyone else.
We know for a fact what Gohan was going to be. Toriyama just changed his mind, that's why Videl had to change too. It's a mess.

I am actually glad that this movie is mostly centered around Piccolo and Gohan. And Goku and Vegeta are on the sidelines. A lot of people had mixed feelings about the animation. I did, too. But I saw the movie in theaters and I had a blast. Dragon Ball Diama has 2d animation for the most part. I am waiting for the English dub. Fun fact,The person who voiced kid Goku in Dragon Ball in the English dub is gonna voice Goku again in Dragon Ball Diama.
Soooo, Androids are basically robots deigned to look like living creatures. Cyborgs are a mix of artificial technology and creatures that were once human. 17 and 18 are Cyborgs, while the rest of the creations are Androids. For example, Android 16, who was built to replicate Dr. Gero's son; who passed away during kid Goku's seige on the Red Ribbon Army during Dragon Ball, is an Android. I hope this helps.

After the Broly arc which is after the tournament of power there are 2 more arcs, (Galactic patrol prisoner arc and Granolah the survivor arc) this movie takes place after those 2 arcs.
No, you're not crazy. Pan was flying in that episode. Pan didn't have control over her powers as a baby, hence the random flying.
Krillin/Kuririn's scleras are white in the manga and in early Dragon Ball episodes, then in the middle of the first tournament arc, they painted it with his skin tone. It's possible it was an coloring error and they just rolled with it, but the anime kept it until Super. Now as Super Hero and Daima has designs made by Toriyama himself, and he was more involved with them, they fixed his eyes.
About the android thing, Gero made both androids (fully mechanical) cyborgs (humans enhanced by technology) and also a bio lab moster that's Cell.
The thing is, in Japanese they used the word "jinzou ningen" which means "artificial human" and can be used for all three types, most translations uses "android" because the first one introduced, Android 8, was a fully mechanical android, and most languages don't have a term as broad as jinzou ningen was.
About Pan flying in the anime, that was anime filler, but it's not uncommon to babies to unlearn things after growing a little, like most babies learn how to swim very well fast, then they can grow up to be scared of swimming and having to relearn it, so I imagine that happened with Pan's flying.

Toriyama is the only writer of this movie. Toyotaro only handles the manga side, and he was still a *CO*-writer, not even as a sole writer. Toriyama still had the main influence until his passing. This movie is entirely by Toriyama, down to every single line of dialogue.
A little bit of context to help better explain the movie. In the manga, you learn a long time ago, Bardock protected a mother and her child because they reminded him of Gine and their children. That child grew up and would eventually become the strongest warrior in the universe. This prompted a gang of planet brokers called the Heeters to plot a way for the kid to fight Goku and Vegeta. Towards the end Frieza came into the picture but with a new power up making him the strongest foe again. To prepare for Frieza Goku and Vegeta grabbed Broly and started training on Beerus world. Mean while Goten and Trunks took up the Great Saiyaman mantle that Gohan use to have and became super Heroes. They would be the model that Hedo would build the Gammas on. So Gamma 1 and 2 are Android versions of Goten and Trunk essentially. The manga goes a little future and you have Gohan in his new form called Gohan Beast, fight Ultra Instinct Goku in a father-son sparing match.

About why Goku is like that now, well, DBZ was made by toriyama AND his editor Yuu Kondo (he made the story more serious, the creation of the androids and vegeta were his idea for example, he put limits to toriyama), but yuu kondo left the project in the middle of majin buu saga. Now db super is full toriyama , and he loves comedy. Cell max was made in the 2nd form because that was the favorite of toriyama : /

You know, in OG DB, yeah, there WERE walking talking animal people everywhere...but, I've noticed when they switched to DBZ, that started to taper off, until whenever they showed a huge crowd scene, I couldn't spot a tiger man or anything. King Furry was the only remnant of a bygone era. Why did that happen?
Goku's characterization and what is the _right way_ is such a can of worms. I read the manga before watching Z and he has very few character moments outside of the crisis of the moment and they tended to be pretty jokey. Him slapping chi chi's shoulder and knocking her through a tree, fishing with Krillin and getting pegged in the face with a rock. Goku would always be on a sidequest before the final battle in Z and have zero character moments while doing it. Both the japanese producers of the anime and english translation favored a more traditional protagonist and that is the version most of the fan base grew up on.

Fun fact, Gohan was not actually supposed to be in this movie. He was written in last minute. This was going to be a stand alone piccolo movie. However they wanted Gohan in the movie with Piccolo, and this was how they brought Gohan back.
Overall, they made the right call by doing this. The ToP already established them as their own duo, so having them star in a movie and receive new power ups together killed two birds with one stone.
It's not always required but I like when a movie in a series is built to let anyone jump in. Red Ribbon goes way back to original Dragonball but most people probably remember the androids and Cell, plus it's mostly new stuff to test Piccolo and Gohan. Maybe the opening is long winded but that's just every DBZ movie I think as they show off the characters before half the movie is fighting mileage may vary. Art style takes getting used to, personally I don't mind it and if it lets them make the movies easier or experiment with style I can get enjoy it, just make sure most go back to the original anime style I guess.
Also if nobody else has said yet the reason why they chose this version of Cell is because this was Toryiama's favorite Cell form and he wanted that to be his final form.

The reason it got sillier because of the stakes, in z there were actual threats..in super whenever it got serious goku did get serious, but most of the times they were sure that they gon win..so yea its not that they dumbed him down..he just got a but careless

And literally the first wish we ever see happen in Dragon Ball is Oolong interrupting Pilaf's wish by wishing for panties.
It's not "Dragon Ball is becoming silly". It's always been silly. Goku literally sticks a staff right into a ninja's ass and says "Now you've got a tail just like me!".
And no, Chichi didn't force Gohan to be a scholar. His first line in the manga introduction is literally him saying he wants to be a scholar when he grows up. He LOVES being a dork, the whole great Saiyaman happens in Z, and Videl joins him on it as the great Saiyaman 2. Super wasn't the one "downgrading" characters. They've been like that since Z. Super is just a continuation of the characters they were already becoming in Z.
Hell, you see this man geeking over ants turning yellow? Do you see the ROOM he's in? Fighting has always been just a means for him to get stuff done and protect the ones he loves. And training has just been bonding moments between him and Goku, especially in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
DBS Broly literally explains that Bulma has been using the Dragon Balls constantly to age herself down and she doesn't want surgery because it would be too obvious, and even the best surgeons can mess up, as they're still humans. Doing it with wishes they can basically get yearly due to the technology and how strong/fast they are. Not to mention New Namek's dragon balls are still an option, even if Earth dragon balls are unavailable.
Also, I think that his ugly semiperfect form is much better for Cell Max because:
1- It shows he's not in a "Perfect" state. His mind is still not designed to obey so he's quite literally incomplete.
2- It wouldn't work to shows he's a monster. If it was a huge monster that looks like a mewing e-boy then it wouldn't impact as hard.
3- It's MEANT to be ugly. You don't want a handsome monster... D-Do you?
Krillin's White Eyes seems to be a Toei thing only, since in DB colored manga he does have white eye thingies. They probably just did it that way because, well, Toriyama never closed Krillin's outlined eyes. So I guess Toei just decided to color them the same way as his skin.

One thing that people don't understand is Gohan in his Base he needed Glasses to see but once he transforms into Super Saiyan 1, 2, his Ultimate Form and Beast he can see fine without Glasses.
I would REALLY recommend you read chapters 101-103 of the Dbs manga as it’s basically a continuation of this movie. And it features some really cool fights involving Gohan, Broly, Goku, and Vegeta. and I’m 99% sure those chapters were fully written by Toriyama before his passing (R.I.P)

Piccolo having his Potential unlocked by Shenron is the Yellow skin form and the Orange Form is the bit extra Orange Piccolo is the BIT EXTRA from Shenron for when he needed it!
So this is canon breaking because anyone who WATCHED dragon Balls super will remember that Pan was flying before she could even crawl properly let alone talk. And this isn't one of those movies where the story doesn't fit IN the timeline like the DBZ movies. THIS HAPPENED in Dragon Ball Super canon. Just Like Battle of Gods; Resurrection F and Broly.

Gohan was not downgraded in Super. He was downgraded in the Buu Saga. He got back in shape to fight Buu. That arc ended, and he did the exact same thing he did after Cell. He quit because he's never liked fighting. He got back in shape for the Tournament of Power. Then he quit again. Super has its flaws, but the Gohan problem started in Z.

Unlike goku a natural warrior who has physical limitations gohan has mental limitations because no matter how strong he becomes he just isn’t a warrior. He doesn’t have the heart and soul that enjoys battles in fact given his life experiences I’m not surprised that he would avoid fighting given the trauma he had training to fight vegeta and nappa, the trauma he faced under the threat of freeza, and the pressure during the cell games.
Gohan beast like it’s title is him letting the beast out, finding the warriors spirit forced upon him buried deep in his psyche and having it brought up to the surface.
Watch OG Dragon ball and you’ll understand why bulma dis the way she is

No super shows Gohan being faithful to himself since he has ALWAYS hated fighting and training and getting stronger isnt an obsession to him like it is to Goku. Gohan has always wanted to just enjoy life without worrying about fighting which the world of DBZ never allowed him to have.

In Japanese they're called "artificial humans" and most languages uses Androids as far as I know. That's because the first one introduced, Android 8, was fully mechanical, so the localizers didn't had the hindsight of the series introducing Cyborgs and mutants using the same term later.
So the actual definition of an android is a robot that looks human or humanoid and most of the time believe that they are human although that's not always the case. Cyborgs are part human part robot, which is why the abridged had that whole joke and why it was funny when 16 said, "I am Android 16" because he was actually an android and not a cyborg like 17 and 18
