Wow, cool swap! I don't agree on being superior to the 3sgte though. It might be smooth and what not but what about the sutututuuu and the punch when the turbo kicks in...then again I am biased since I swapped a 3sgte(gen4) and running it for 3 years now without any issues. Cool though, I wonder if the E351 tranny would work with the 3sgte...the S54 is the weak point for now.
Curios how address the fuel setup and did you upgrade the fuel pump or stock is sufficient ......im assuming your running a FMW tune ecu? Does your stock tac work?
The stock fuel pump won’t work sadly. It has a walbro 255lph in there for now, but I might swap it out for the 06-11 Avalon fuel pump. Those are much quiter. The actual fuel pressure regulator at the moment is from cutting a 3sgte fuel rail and drilling and tapping fittings into it. Now you CAN use Wilhelm Raceworks kit for the Mr2 on the Celica, it should work just fine. The ECU is from Frankenstien Motorworks. You can swap the tach out with one from one from a 96-98 Avalon, and it works just fine. You just need to swap the little board that’s all!
@@drewhough-y3r I have the pedal bracket available, my 3D printer is down at the moment unfortunately. I can’t say off the top of my head on how much was grinded down, but it was just to let it sit flush with the frame, and the engine to be level. It took a few tries but eventually worked out perfect!
Surprisingly no, what we did is just take a giant washer, stuck it in the gap between the clip, and the actual shift cable bracket and forced it in. It worked perfectly that way. @@WiseGuyzGaragethanks! also, i have a question you may not be able to answer. im assuming since the e351 is narrower, thats why you chose to use the scion xb bracket, but how similar is the stock s54 bracket? for example, do you know if the scion xb mount fits in the s54 bracket? im wondering if its possible to use the s54 bracket with the scion mount to have a better condition front mount since the oem celica mount is discontinued..
@@vibrantsy so the narrow E and the s54 are simmilar in size, we just used the xb one because that’s the mount we used in the front because the oem mount was SHOT. I’m sure the oem s54 bracket could work but that might need the oem mount unfortunately
@@WiseGuyzGarage i feel like mounts is the worst part about these cars. i have 2 celicas and the one i daily drive has aftermarket mounts and they are SO bad. TONS of vibration and shifting feels horrible because of the engine movement. thats the main reason i figured i’d ask, because those scion mounts are plentiful but the celica ones arent. i’m considering going to the junkyard to grab one to actually see how close they are.
@@vibrantsy The scion mount is also more robust, it's twice as wide also. The only thing is you have to drill a hole for the front portion in the subframe cross bar, and we just tack welded the original hole shut so it now runs the XB mount permanently, and if needed to replace it's the same procedure as prior.
I’ve got a couple questions. What and where are the easiest places to source the engine and transmission Will I use the stock ECU from the sienna? If so, does it have tuning as I know you really can’t tune the 5sfe. Will stock axles work and will they hold up?
@@Oliver_stick junkyard is your best bet for the engine. The S54 won’t hold up for tooo long unfortunately. The diff will start eating itself up. You use a stock sienna ecu that is flashed so the immobilizer is removed and a rev limit increase from Frankenstein Motorworks. Hopefully that helps!
@@WiseGuyzGarage Gotcha thanks, I found your videos on axles after I posted the questions so got that figured out. what ECU did you go with? I'm also reading things about a immobilizer computer and antenna. Did you have to do anything with that? or did you get the 2 plug ecu out of the rav 4? As for transmission it seems like some people go with e351 or e153. it seems like e351 is easier and cheaper to get, is that what would be best? I've been researching a lot on v6 swaps and if you could compare this swap to a 1mz how much more complicated is the 2gr swap. From your video it seems fairly simple. Thanks
@@Oliver_stick the ecu is from a 08 sienna. Best ecu options are from a 2011+ sienna ECU. It’s referred to as a 2 plug ECU. Frankenstein motorworks offers the ecu, tune, and immobilizer delete for 545. Pretty much ready to go when doing so. No immobilizer needed after.
@@Oliver_stick the 2GR is simple in my opinion. You can use a RAV4 v6 passenger side mount and just cut the adapter plate down. Then just drill two holes in the frame and you’re done. Wiring is only 25 ish wires to get everything going, including the gauges and whatnot. Exhaust for both engines are about the same difficulty.
@@WiseGuyzGarage wouldn't be to easy for a first time build huh? I have a 1mz and it costs wayyyy to much to make little power. I have a 2000 solara and would love to swap it but everything I wanna swap it with intimidates me

@@E.Z_DOES_IT I think he combined a lot of factory Toyota mounts to make it work honestly. I don’t recall a lot of fab work. You’ll need the Toyota Avalon fuel pump from 05-11. The stock v6 one isn’t enough
What ecu do you have? Is it stand alone or piggy back. Or what. Im wanting to do this swap on my 97 st. But stand alone ecus are gonna be one of the most expensive parts it seems
I’m sure there’s a way to get it to fit in there. The 2nd Gen RAV4 engine bay is simmilar to the model after. Ironically I think the passenger side of the car I believe has a similar design too! I figured out mounts by looking at other engine bays that look to be similar shape. In your case the newer rav4. Also look into the scion XB2. There engine bays are almost identical.
If that 7A-FE celica is manual, yes it will work. Even better actually, due to the shift cables working better for the E series transmission. Thanks for watching!
@@WiseGuyzGarage No worries, thanks for the video The 1.8 7A-FE has different motor mounts than the 5S-FE, so that wouldn't be an issue? (I'm guessing you'd have to fabricate them all yourself anyway?) Also, does it matter what year Sienna the 2GR-FE is from? Or would it be the same to get one from a Camry for instance? In the near future I'd want to attempt to swap the 1.8 out of my Celica (horrific engine, absolutely 0 power haha, makes a lot of noise without actually going forward faster), but am going back and forth between a 3S-GE or based on your video the 2GR-FE Would you be interested in doing a video potentially going into more detail on the full swap?
@@blinkachu5275 So there are a few things to consider before moving forward with the engine swap itself. Frankenstein Motorworks only tunes a specific set of ECUs to delete the immobilizer. 2GR-FE ecus are usually referred to as either 5 plug (early Avalon, Highlander, and sienna models) or 2 plug (later Avalon pre 2012, 07-11 Camry, 2012+ Sienna, and RAV4’s). He can only tune specific variants of the 5 plug ecu, and the 2 plug ecu. No Sedan class 2 plug ECU can be flashed due to the immobilizer restrictions. I’m not sure if he still tunes 5 plug ECUs anymore but I’m sure if you produce the core he would do it. (No guarantees) Now that we have that all out of the way, here is the second thing to consider. Oil cooled, or non oil cooled. Oil cooled engines are typically in SUV variants of the 2GR. For a car like the celica, the oil cooler isn’t really worth it. I recommend a FWD sedan of some sort, post 2011 model if possible. Early 2005-10 models of the 2GR had cam Phaser issues that can show up on a random strike of bad luck. Wiring harness from sedans and SUVs differ in length. The harness in the video is from a Toyota Sienna. I’m not exactly sure if the 5 plug Avalon harness would work. I *believe* the harness from a 2007-11 Camry would work. You would just need to find a pre 2012 RAV4 ECU for that harness, and swap a few pins around. The most optimal harnesses for the car would be from a 2GR Toyota RAV4, or a 2011+ Toyota Sienna. Not only are these going to be the cleanest options, (visually) but they are the longest, and provide plenty of slack to allow the plugs to enter the firewall. Now the mounting situation, you just need a XB2 Front and Rear transmission bracket, and a STOCK s54 transmission mount. The great news is if you don’t want to buy a used upper transmission mount, the mount Frankenstein Motorworks Sells for the MR2 SHOULD work for the Toyota Celica as well. I highly recommend replacing the front engine mount with the isolator from a Scion XB, as it is much more robust, and will last a lot longer. Since the rear mount is still available for a 94-98 celica GT, we just ran the stock one. The passenger side engine mount that supports the weight of the drivetrain, you NEED to get the engine bracket for a RAV4 specifically. The FWD variants that use a strut torque mount brace, ARE NOT DESIGNED TO HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE ENGINE!!!! That mount requires 2 holes to be drilled into the frame rail. I HIGHLY recommend two really long bolts that would go through the entire frame rail, instead of just welding a nut like we did. It’s much easier that way. Hopefully this all helps. I plan on making a follow up video discussing the swap in a lot more detail!
I’m sure the same principle could be applied. I believe the tarcel mounts similar to the st204, so in theory, you could mix/match brackets, and essentially build your own mounts. I saw the tarcel can fit a 2arfe as well too! Something to consider. They can make 230whp with bolt ons.
He'll yeah great I'm gonna make that happen the only the hold me its the welding part, the wiring I can do it I did install a piggyback by myself on that car and wideband so I think I can do that
@@AdinSLaboy you could most likely get away with zero welding, in theory if you use a similar style mount on the drivers side you could use a bolt/nut to hold it in place through the bottom of the frame rail! Just use a step-bit and slide the nut up there with some thread locker and that would essentially be the same thing!
Now I’m really thinking about putting a 2grfe on my celica. Btw you have a Facebook page? Got a few questions to ask you bro. If you don’t have or email works too.
I have a 93 celica convertible and the 5SFE works great in it, but I also have a Sienna with a 2GR and I can just imagine how the celica would drive with the 2GR in it.

The e351 has been swapped in on mr2’s with 3sgte’s in them if I remember correctly!
i will proceed to do this right now
I love to hear that! If you get stuck, join the FMW discord, it’s extremely helpful.

@WiseGuyzGarage awesome thank you......when will your pedal bracket be available? Also how much did you have to grind off the rav4 motor mount spacer?
@@drewhough-y3r I have the pedal bracket available, my 3D printer is down at the moment unfortunately. I can’t say off the top of my head on how much was grinded down, but it was just to let it sit flush with the frame, and the engine to be level. It took a few tries but eventually worked out perfect!
for the e351, does it require st205 shift cables like the e153? or did you manage to use the gt cables
Surprisingly no, what we did is just take a giant washer, stuck it in the gap between the clip, and the actual shift cable bracket and forced it in. It worked perfectly that way. I am curious to find a better solution, maybe the original tc ones might fit? Just got to get some measurements still. But for now, the stock s54 ones work that way lol
What and where are the easiest places to source the engine and transmission
Will I use the stock ECU from the sienna?
@@Oliver_stick now the transmission, I recommend using a E350/E351. Much cheaper and more readily available!
AWESOME!!
whats the cost of the engine and trans?
So the engine and transmission we both pulled from LKQ. It was 750 for the engine and 350 for the transmission
Hey man awesome build. What is the 2gr motor out of? What did the motor run you?
Thanks! It’s a 2008 Toyota RAV4 mount for the V6. The engine cost 480 ish bucks at LKQ!
@@WiseGuyzGarage wouldn't be to easy for a first time build huh? I have a 1mz and it costs wayyyy to much to make little power. I have a 2000 solara and would love to swap it but everything I wanna swap it with intimidates me
@@E.Z_DOES_IT yeah 1MZ/3MZ engines don’t make good power. They handle boost well though. You’d need a fully built 1MZ to make 2GR power. This engine was drop in the celica basically. I’m an Admin on 2GRFE Swapped Solara/Camry on Facebook. Ivan has a 01 Solara that he 2GR swapped and it’s insanely fast, and sounds incredible.
@@WiseGuyzGarage I PMd him. I'm a member of the group. I'm brand new and intimidated by that swap. If there was alot of custom fabbed stuff I don't have the shop to do it
@@E.Z_DOES_IT I think he combined a lot of factory Toyota mounts to make it work honestly. I don’t recall a lot of fab work. You’ll need the Toyota Avalon fuel pump from 05-11. The stock v6 one isn’t enough
Will this fit a 1995 Celica GT?
If it’s a Gen 6, then yes!
I need to figure out which trans to get for my sw
Sw20? I used the e 351. I made a video on converting the shift shaft as well
What ecu do you have? Is it stand alone or piggy back. Or what. Im wanting to do this swap on my 97 st. But stand alone ecus are gonna be one of the most expensive parts it seems
@@TerpsandTurtles. This is a stock 08 Sienna ECU flashed by Frankenstein Motorworks!
@@TerpsandTurtles. do you mind sending me updates on how you did it? I also have a 97 Celica ST and I’m interested in doing this swap.
Dam I wonder how this would work with my 2nd gen rav4
I’m sure there’s a way to get it to fit in there. The 2nd Gen RAV4 engine bay is simmilar to the model after. Ironically I think the passenger side of the car I believe has a similar design too! I figured out mounts by looking at other engine bays that look to be similar shape. In your case the newer rav4. Also look into the scion XB2. There engine bays are almost identical.
Also just found a guy who’s doing that exact swap. Check out “guidotuned” on instagram!
Would this work with a 7A-FE Celica (the 1.8 one)?
If that 7A-FE celica is manual, yes it will work. Even better actually, due to the shift cables working better for the E series transmission. Thanks for watching!
@@WiseGuyzGarage No worries, thanks for the video
The 1.8 7A-FE has different motor mounts than the 5S-FE, so that wouldn't be an issue? (I'm guessing you'd have to fabricate them all yourself anyway?)
Also, does it matter what year Sienna the 2GR-FE is from? Or would it be the same to get one from a Camry for instance?
In the near future I'd want to attempt to swap the 1.8 out of my Celica (horrific engine, absolutely 0 power haha, makes a lot of noise without actually going forward faster), but am going back and forth between a 3S-GE or based on your video the 2GR-FE
Would you be interested in doing a video potentially going into more detail on the full swap?
@@blinkachu5275
So there are a few things to consider before moving forward with the engine swap itself.
(No guarantees)
Now that we have that all out of the way, here is the second thing to consider.
Im been looking for a while how to do this on a tercel chassis
