I think that a spall guard is a *must* , even if you order the "build-up" coat. I haven't seen any steel armor even with the build-up coat last very long. It *all* flakes off! Also, the Spartan bag clearly has ballistic material around the edges. I'm not convinced that the sides of the Tactical Scorpion spall guard are anything more than Cordura. Also, the Tactical Scorpion trauma pad is closed-cell vs. a non-newtonian material like AR500's trauma pad, which distributes the impact across the pad. Also, your plate looks like single-curve vs. multi-curve (that's where I *do* like Tactical Scorpion's multi-curve plate!).

Thanks for the info. I was torn between the spartan armor containment bag or the scorpion. The trauma pad addition on the scorpion did it for me. Looking back at it now, I should have just spent the extra coin on the better coating but the spall bags work well. Hope I never have to use them but I’m glad I have them.

Watched a review on these plates with both spall coating and sleeve, wasnt effective at all. Failed. I was very disappointed myself because i have these. Thinking of selling them (with reasons to buyer) and purchase better ones. The plate carrier says china btw.

What size is ur plates i have a flat base coat on my 11x14 sadly spartan does not have a spall fragments catcher for that size smh ...

I have the 10×12 swimmers cut for the front and a 10×12 flat for the back. The scorpion tactical might have that size, they also include a trauma pad. Thanks for watching and for your comment. Does the scorpion cover the top of the plate with the double flap on the inside?

Actually you feed the top of the plate into the bag, flipping a super strong velcro strap on the bottom. Then push inside your plate carrier, my carrier also fastens from the bottom with the flap against your body. It is more than secure.

Most full size plate carriers should, a base coat plate with the spall bag is only slightly thicker than a plate with extra build up material.
