  • Colorado is home to a wide verity of animals including the mountain lion. Although attacks on humans are rare it is always a good idea to be prepared. You should always be prepared just incase you see something you are not ready for.

      I live on five achers in Oregon USA so I have pepper spray during sunset I have a small yeard I take my dog into but at night keep my service dog on a leash and she's in for the night having PTSD my service dog helps and she goes out four times a day and when she comes in for the last time put a pee pads down and that's it and my sister has a yurt and I live in. A trailer home and she sleeps in her yurt and her dogs started barking and she looked out the window and saw a cougar so she keeps bear spray

    Edit: face it and back away slowly works. When I was stalked we stared each other down while I slowly walked backwards down the mountain. Stalked me to the trailhead and ran when it heard other people

    You said most people will never get to see or encounter a mountain lion, but some will be their first and last. These killers will not behave the same toward you each time it sees you. One time it might run away from you but next time seems like it wants to attack. One lion may try to avoid human in any way but the next one will want to attack and kill a human.
    It's never be safe once you enter the woods, always well prepare. Carry a weapon will be your best option.

    Usually mountain lions try to go for the throat to suffocate their prey or they go for the back of the neck to snap the neck. However they tend to hold on to whatever body part they can when there is a struggle so that they can immobilize you and THEN go for the kill. It is those few seconds between when they get a hold of you and when they go for the kill that are critical. If you can shove the stick in the lion's throat during this time, you will likely succeed in escaping.

    Ok so, i have a question. Me and my friends have recently been exploring in this forest area with our friends. We have been planning to build small forts here. But now... we have had recent concerns of them. We have been tracked by them. And today i heard these growling sounds but figured it was my friends pranking me. Then later my friend was wandering around the are and found piles of bones and a recently killed raccoon. Then finding out tracks of it like fur have been left in our area and a paw print in on a trail. We are wondering if it will just move on or something. Is it still safe to be here? Our main concern is that we have little kids with us along with recently finding other young kids here. I would have to assume that it is attempting to make its presence known. And is really curious of us.

    As I read all these comments, I just shake my head . its all one way or the other,, 1 live in fear, and hide in your home. 2 or kill everything that had the possibility of harming you. Bull,,, most of these tactics will work most of the time , but in the times that the animal does attack you have to have a plan b... Carry bear spray, or a gun .. Just use your brain. You don't have to shoot anything and everything you see. If its 60 feet away, use your voice and your body to let it know your not on the menu .back away if you can.. If you live in cougar or bear habitat don't go out alone if you can avoid it.. People kill more people every year than all the animals put together. A little common sense goes along way..

    I wanted to suggest something that is not typically taught when it comes to dealing with a mountain lion. If a mountain lion gets a hold of you, I suggest shoving a walking stick down the lion's throat. The lion is going to be too busy trying to hold on to you to see this tactic coming and once the stick is lodged in it's throat it is very likely going to become more concerned about getting the stick out. It may even release you to "attack" the stick lodged in its throat. What are your thoughts?

    • @snugbug5067

  • @MrLakeOntario1
    @MrLakeOntario1 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would suggest this tactic for animal-lovers who are naturally squeamish about hitting an animal. Sometimes people freeze at the thought of having to become violent, even when defending themselves or a person that they care about. These milliseconds of hesitation can be fatal, though,which is why I suggest calmly shoving the stick down the lion's throat. This takes only a few seconds to do and will certainly get the lion's attention. Also, lion's don't always let go right away when beaten.
