I absolutely love this lens! Its size, weight, aperture ring, ability to shoot from the hip, the way it tells a story at 35mm full frame, its weather resistance, and its character at f/2.0 are all fantastic. The only thing I dislike is my addiction to its field of view. I always end up putting this lens back on after using the 18mm or 56mm-it just feels like home to me.
The 23mm was my first prime and, although I'm mostly out with my GR IIIx nowadays, I love this lens for the same reasons as you. Thank you very much for your video and I'll see you in the next one, too! :) Bdw. I truly enjoy your newsletter, it's really great work you put in there.
Understandable! Every time I use my friend’s GR IIIx I'm amazed 😭 I appreciate you watching, and the kind words about the newsletter. I deeply enjoy writing it!
I *just* sold this lens to a friend getting into Fujifilm. It's a great lens that I recommend to pretty much everyone (previously his only lens was the XF 16-80 f4). It's so versatile… but personally I've come to prefer either be wider with the XF 18mm f2 or more narrow with the XF 35mm f2. If I could only have one lens it's what I'd want though. Still, it's really good and if I could justify having loads of lenses this one would certainly be among them. Incredibly versatile. Thanks for the video! Always good to see your stuff! :)
This lens remains almost permanently attached to my XT4. I think i need to get the square hood though! Will it help my photography? No... will it make me happy? Yes. Love the video.
50 plus years of shooting, Nikons and Leicas, and this was my first Fujifilm lens, bought with an X-T2 years ago. I agree, this is a very fine lens. Its small, sharp and priced nicely. I actually bought a second one in chrome for my silver X-T3 which was stupidly redundant, but it looks cool. I always had a 35mm on my film cameras and this little 23mm on my Fujis leaves me lacking nothing from the film era in terms of image quality.
Great review as always. I Had this lens and is nice but the field of view is more like 32mm than 35mm. Do you prefer this one or the voightländer ? To me fuji must give a new 18mm f2 lens as soon as possible.
@@doriyancoleman Is the focus on that lens quick ? i cant seem to find it anywhere to try out. Id love manual focus but need it to be quick for street and acurate.
I wanted to add a second system to my Olympus/OMSystems cameras. I got no further than the X100V and went Nikon ZF last year with a voigtlander 40mm 1.2 and a 26mm 2.8. I’m keeping the X100V until it dies but it’s that lens in your review that kept me away. I just wasn’t impressed with its closeup abilities. I had hoped they would update it when they announced the 40 megapixel sensor. And now with all the Fuji issues with the app and auto focus I feel like I dodged a bullet. Come on guys I mean Olympus/OMS I have been using WiFi to download video and raw since 2016. Get with the teens guys!
A pre-production X100VI, as well as the old-timer duo of the 35 1.4 and 18 f/2 are the only Fuji equipment I’ve ever had prominent AF issues with 🤷🏾♂️
Dorian posts, I click. But for real, I have been shooting with the XF 23/2 and the Voigt 23/1.2. Just depends on the day and how I want to engage with the camera. Good atuff
I appreciate that! And yeah the 23/2 is my favorite first-party lens, while voigtlander might be my favorite in general. I need to try their 18mm f/2.8.
@doriyancoleman I agree. 50mm f2 is my default outdoor portrait lens. The 35mm f2 comes in second followed by Viltrox 85mm f1.8 II. That's my portrait trio. I always put my primes lenses in duos or trios. 18/27 16/35 23/50 23/35/50 12/27 and so on.
A gold star for anyone who understands all five media references ⭐

We have that in common! Love the 18mm options as well, but I always come back to this. Appreciate you watching 🙌🏾
Have used it on my XT3, XT5, XE4 ... truly amazing
Glad you've enjoyed your time with it! This, the 35 f2 and 50 f2 are truly excellent. Thank you for watching 🤝
We’re so f***ing back.
My man! 🤞🏾

When not using the X-T4 with the XF16-50, I built my own X100V, I got an X-T1 with the XF23 f/2 and I'm a happy camper.
That’s quite the combo! 📸
Dude, SO good to see you back. I love your reviews, and this video is exactly why. Tight script, great shots, good info 👌
Hey! Thank you for your continued support. It means a lot! 🙏🏾
@doriyancoleman especially love the shot at 4:38 , your b&w photography is some of my favorites!

Thanks! And the Voigtlander 23mm f/1.2 because I love manual focus, the rendering and f/1.2. 100% agree about an updated 18mm f/2.

Def a solid lens!
Indeed! 📸

Which 23mm for fuji x would you recommend if I want something with more character?
100% the Voigtlander 23mm f/1.2, such a lovely lens. I also have a video on it!
Drop dead lens to have is 23mm f2 / 50mm f2. You'll be able to handle everything in life.
It's nice to see you here too Jason.
@Enrique-the-photographer you too!
Those two are easily in my top 10 lenses I’ve ever used.
