  • What's up guys! Welcome back to the Creative Channel!
I've got a new group coming to the CC today!! This is Voces8 - taking you all back to my choir days in college with this one.
This group is amazing, and did a fantastic job performing this beautiful song by a crazy good composer. Love me some Eric Whitacre!!! This type of singing may not be everybody's favorite, but there still should be an appreciation for it. This channel is for all things creative :)
Take it from someone who knows first hand... it's not an easy thing. I was mesmerized throughout the majority of this video, and was blown away at how tight their harmonies were in every chord change. UGH!! SOO GOOD!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and as always, thanks for watching!! :)
Here's the link to the original video:

If you ever get the chance to listen to them in a live concert GO THERE. I heard them in January in Berlin and it was just breathtaking. Best decision I could have made even if I returned having covid.

My very favorite a cappella ensemble. Voices of angels and they are very involved in developing young talent, both singers and composers. Check out their 2023 Composer Competition and their VOCES8 Digital Academy online for voice training, with a lot of free lessons. Thank you for highlighting this incredible group. Have you heard their version of Ola Gjeilo’s Ubi Caritas? It’s not acapella, but it does transport you to a higher realm.

This group has collaborated with The Kings Singers. Recommended. Thanks!

If I remember right….and it’s been over a decade so I could be making this up…I think that high C the gentlemen are singing mid way through the piece all of the guys are singing…bass, bari, tenor, the whole enchilada. I was in an a cappella group in high school and we sang this. I’m a bass and I remember that C being the bane of my existence, but when we came together and all hit that exactly it was 100% worth it.

It could also be that we were not a professional adult ensemble and needed to help out where ever possible.

I sang this song and I can say for sure the Bass section sustains that C.

I can't even deal with how gorgeous this is. I had never heard it until it appeared here, so thank you Chris. Biscuit indeed.

Where you exclaim "yes" and tap your fingers together, same reaction. There is nothing else to do but be slayed by the dissonance.

Voces8 are so talented, a really beautiful sound. If you're looking for another video of theirs I really love, try their version of This is My Song (Finlandia).

@3:36 The basses contributed to that c4 as well! Even more impressive. @6:30 yes you understood the goodness that happened. The dissonance and all the things. Bravo to you!

Okay, if you are ready to have your socks knocked off, might I suggest you give a listen to Austin Brown with Home Free, doing his rendition of 'Bring Him Home' from the musical Les Miserables. This performance is only available on video that was recorded by members of the concert audience, so the visual and vocal quality isn't great, but you still get an idea of how powerful Austins voice is. Strap yourself into your chair before watching this video.

So, I dont know why. But classical music, Eric Whitacre especially, makes me so emotional. I used to play Trumpet from 5th grade through HS. Graduated in 2010, and havent been playing really since, without just messing around. My heart feels sort of broken that im not musically involved at 30. I don't know if its nostalgia, or if God is literally telling me I need to be involved again. I had never heard of this group until tonight. I likes your reaction to it.

I am a big Voces8 and Eric Whitacre fan. They do a collaboration with Eric on a song called "Sing Gently." You should check it out! Would love to see your reaction.

Good guesses on the parts! Where you stopped the video to guess the voice splits, it's altos, sopranos, tenors, then baritone and then bass from left to right. The guy singing alto is also the director of the group. The tall lady is soprano 1, with that fantastically pure tone

Subbed! Anyone who follows Voces 8 is my kind of reactor!
You are so right about enunciation and clarity. I just saw Yale’s Whiffenpoofs and their harmonies were muddled and murky sounding , lacking crispness.

The sustained note at the end is sung by sopranos.

Thank you for your thoughtful reaction to a magical group!
Please share your thought on this song th-cam.com/video/80-kp6RDl94/w-d-xo.html
I've seen a couple reaction videos, but they don't use the full song.
I would love to hear another musician's thoughts on this performance. It is quite a long song; but I swear it is worth a listen.
