  • Algaenite developed at the Growponics R&D center in Haifa, is a green technology that utilizes micro-organisms and harnesses the sun’s energy to fix nitrogen and produce fertilizer. This revolutionary solution uses novel photobioreactor technology with zero carbon emissions, replacing the traditional petrochemical process.
Our process starts with cultivating a selected species of Cyanobacteria in an automated air-lift column reactor. The bacteria perform dual actions: photosynthesis to capture carbon and generate energy, and nitrogen fixation -- to convert atmospheric nitrogen into ammonia using specialized cells (called heterocysts). The energy produced during photosynthesis powers nitrogen fixation within these cells, creating a self-sustaining system.
The resulting nitrogen-rich biomass is then processed in an anaerobic digester to create Bio Liquid Fertilizer (BLF). Produced on-site, this fertilizer offers a reliable and efficient solution. The system is automated, & remotely monitored and controlled, ensuring low intervention and high efficiency. Chen: "AlgaeNite requires very little attention from the farmer. It produces high-quality organic fertilizer on-site with minimal effort."AlgaeNite’s Bio Liquid Fertilizer is free from pathogens, hormones, and antibiotics, making it ideal for hydroponic and fertigation systems. Liat: “Our bioreactor, featuring 160 columns, can supply fertilizer to a small greenhouse - all organic.”AlgaeNite's technology meets EU Green Deal objectives and has already secured support through the EIC grant. Dalia: "We’re talking about making sustainable fertilizer production the golden standard in agriculture.”AlgaeNite’s bio-innovation goes beyond fertilizer production: Hani: "We have found that the nitrogen-rich biomass can also be used as a food ingredient with 52% alternative protein - adding multi-billion market potential."
