I was 6 when this was recorded. How different the city is now. Empty shops, smack head and drunks taken over the town centre. The quay is dead, used to have all the clubs and nightlife there.
I'm watching in 2021, and although this is 31 years ago the centre of Exeter hasn't changed that much I can still recognise it ... Weirdly all the quayside developments are all the same today... they must have been brand new in 1990!!!!!!!
It's devastating but thankfully after all the problems since the fire regarding its future. the repair works are due to start in autumn 2022! The Royal Clarence and the Well House Tavern Pub's original exterior facdes are being sensitive reconstructed and restored as luxury flats. The ground floor will be fully accessible for hospitality and leisure as a bar and a large restaurant and two function rooms. The arictectures with Exeter City Council and historic England are saving as much as the original fabric as possible and incorporated into the rebuild to reflect its appearance so it will look very much as it did before the fire all goes well it should be completed in 2024.
@@ryanohara476 I really miss it. Stayed & dined there many times. The green isn't the same without it. A pity the original owner couldn't restore/rebuild, as originally promised. But I understand that would have been difficult.
I'm a born & raised Exonian and seeing this brings back so many memories. And I was 9 years old back in 1990.

Wow!! This is the best thing I’ve ever seen!
Nice job. I'm pleased to say that not much has changed here since then.
That boy, that keeps popping up, looks exactly like someone I was at school with about that time, just over in Newton Abbot. I wonder if it is him?
Lovely. Well done indeed!
look nice.. used to live at Exeter around 2006-2010
Amazing. Thanks.
wow I just got hit with serious nostalgia
1:05 - Superdrug and WHSmiths are still there - look a bit different these days though...

Were all the buildings next to the suspension bridge put up in 1990? Or just that section being built in this video?
Unsure but I think they all range from the early 90s

Nice. shame the Royal Clarence has gone.
