Sainsbury's and that whole Exebridge development are from 1986, so virtually brand new here. Opened by Princess Diana! Demolished Sainsburys around 1999-2000, so it barely lasted 13 years. Was Exeter's first major/modern supermarket. The Alphington branch (much cheaper build quality) was built to take over around 99. You can see lots of pictures of it on SainsburysArchive website by searching 'Exebridges'.
So many changes and yet bizarrely so much looks the same. So many well known shops have gone. Nice to see Harry Blundreds mini buses (bread vans) again. I’ve got the 3 ties somewhere.
This brings back the memories. When I was a student at Exeter Uni I cycled up this route as far as Postbridge on Dartmoor turned round then headed back to Exeter, I should have kept going to Plymouth then got the train home! The hills were tough going, I doubt I could do it now! There was a great Cider Barn on this road not long after you left Exeter, used to go there a lot. Happy Days!!
Sorry to be so off topic but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me!
@Gage Charlie I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Steep drag up to Longdown. Just wait until the 1 in 6 up to Dunsford. In fact past Steps Bridge and just about all the way to Moretonhampstead is pretty much all uphill. I've walked it a few times when I lived out at Dunsford in the late 80s and early 90s 👍
@@Al-iv3mb All knocked down now and moved next to Westexe School (formerly St thomas High). The site is now home to a retail park. The Plaza (now The Riverside) still remains.
I'm not sure as to how you can do this but if you can contact me about acquiring a copy of this video as it includes 2 of my buses that I operated as Red Bus Services at this time - One at 3:49 and one at 10:12 - would be useful for my Archives on my Bus Venture - Thanks Richard H
If you have or are able to download something called "Real Player" onto your computer it's possible to download videos off of You Tube. I used to do this alot and I have "Real Player" on an old computer. I had no digital copy of this video as I delete videos from the computer after I've uploaded them but I succeeded in downloading this video to this old computer and could try to send it to you as an e mail attachment if I had your address. I don't know if this would work or if it would come to you in a form where you'd be able to play it but if you're able to give me your e mail address I'm prepared to try.
Fascinating to see the Central Station sidings were still there in 91.
Love all those old cars driving around. Thanks for sharing this. I would have been somewhere in exeter when this was recorded. I was 19 years old.
Old cars 🤣😂
Exeter my home city and 16 years old when this was filmed.
Great footage .l was 38 when this was filmed.😊
I just don't understand why I have not until now given a Like to such a nostalgic video as this!
Thanks for sharing. The Sainsbury's I never knew existed. Simpler times just life no smart phones.

You can see many pictures of it from a few years earlier on the SainsburyArchive website by searching Sainsburys Exebridges. If you're interested.
@@interstat2222 thanks!
I never knew that Sainsburys used to be where it's now St Thomas retail park, they must have moved further out to Alphington in the early 2000s
@@Al-iv3mb I remember the site being cleared and ready to build Sainsburys and the Plaza.

Beautiful city
6:34 The High Street McDonald's was already there since the beginning of time. 🤣
Wow, I live in Exeter
Thanks for showing this
A lot of changes in Exeter, including Bus station now gone.
Bus station is still stood empty,if they’d combined it with the new bus station it might have solved the bus problems.
Nice! Cheers
