    I'm fucking old...(coming up to 60 next year). A lot of my friends and acquaintances denied music beyond the mid 80's. As a musician, I was happy to hear anything that was new and original. I remember hearing so many good songs in the 90's. This was one of them. I loved Tonic. They were a real 'tonic' for the soul. My band used to cover "You Wanted More" and "Mean to Me". We didn't care if people liked it or not. We liked Tonic and the stuff they wrote, and it was a moment of self indulgence for us. We'd finish playing their stuff and look at each other with big grins on our faces. Mission accomplished. I know they still work, but it would be nice to see them on top again.

      I'm an old 80's metal drummer and I'm bumpin 50 and I still rock to tunes by tonic. I like "If you could only see" too. These are tunes that stand on their own, regardless of genre. They're awesome.

      @carmelorafaeldtansengco1462 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      On a personal note, I loved the music until the mid 80's. After that, I noticed the songs that came out weren't as good. There seemed to be a lull. Things began to look up again in the early-mid 90's. This lasted all the way until the early 2000's. Again, this is just how I saw it. I love the music of the 70's and 80's. I also love the music of the mid to late 90's.

      @@gforce1754 what a beautiful comment!! Wow I feel this soooo much! And it’s sooo true the friendships, the memories, the CLOSENESS that you felt to these people in those years was so very special to me. We were on the brink of a new millennium and us teenagers at that time will never forget it. Somehow I feel closer to those people in my ‘99 class than my own family at times! LOL. I now work with a young lady who is 24 (she’s my assistant at my medical office) and she asked me the other day “what was it like?” I literally had no words bc I got choked up BUT she could tell by my facial expression that it was almost incomprehensible for her to grasp which made so very sad for her generation. Later on all I could say was if you never knew what it was like to sneak outside at night at 11pm to see your H.S sweetheart (when grounded) , or jump in a car full of friends when you get off work at the local mall or have your first kiss be to a matchbox 20 song….heck or even wait for the house phone to ring to talk to a relative bc we had NO cell phones then I can’t make you understand! She gave me a hug and such a sweet look. Ugh see now you got me in my feelings!! Thank you for letting me type this comment sorry so long! 😂🎓💕

    It’s just incredible how nostalgic music is. It literally takes you back to a specific time with specific people. It’s a bittersweet thing. Growing up in the 90s was just the best and at the same time music will also remind you that those times are gone, you feel regrets for things you didn’t do or things you did, miss people you never see anymore. Just so many feelings when you hear music from middle school, high school, and college.

    I was fortunate enough to grow up in the 90s when music was truly amazing. Music is my life I would much rather listen to music than do pretty much anything else. My kids are fortunate to have me as their mother so they can learn about all awesome music from the 90s.

    Kids dont realise how hard it was back in the day, when for example you were watching 'American Pie' at the Cinema (in England) and didnt have Shazam to tell you what this song was, let alone have instant access to it through streaming and download. You'd have to hope for and wait for the physical soundtrack to be available in your country, then without having a clue of the song name or band, hope that song was on the album, after paying £15 for it (about 2 weeks saved school lunch money 😂.

    I still remember seeing Tonic opening for Third Eye Blind at the Vic in Chicago. I actually moshed when Tonic played 'Irish' in Chicago near St Patricks Day. Third Eye Blind actually cranked the levels up to painful and when I put my earplugs in to muffle the noise it was painfully obvious they were lypsyncing to their tracks and just broke the sound system to try to hide it. I still love Tonic and will sponsor their 20th anniversary acoustic rerelease of Lemon Parade.

      oracledantex I was at that show! I was in the mosh pit for Tonic and went to the balcony when Third Eye Blind came on. Tonic was the better band that night. BY FAR!

    • @hodiau016
      @hodiau016 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow! I was working sound for that show at the Vic. I was in charge of mixing the stage monitors for both bands, and I can tell you 100% that 3rd Eye Blind was NOT lipsyncing anything. The drummer did have a Midi trigger on his snare as i recall which gave it a kind of slap delay crunch type of sound on certain songs, but other than that 3EB was playing and singing all live. Now as for which was the better band that evening, I will leave for you all to debate! (Although, let's just say there's a reason I'm here watching this video and not a certian other band's!!)
