    Skiing is a gradual learning curve that plateaus at the top. Snowboard is flat progression while you catch edges and scorpion, then you are linking turns and it's a massive wall curve of progression as the entire mountain becomes unlocked.

      I reckon it depends on the person. I am scared to death of skis it looks like just asking to have your knees twisted.

      @@chadr2604yeah crashes in skis are way worse than on boards but you are more stable in skis so people fall less in general. Complete beginners seem to stop falling all together no long after they learn how to slow. But snowboarders still fall even after learning the basics because of some unlucky edge catch or some bumpy snow

      I went skiing one time in Alpe D'huez as a teen, I got on the red slopes in a week and I honestly think skiing is a lot more fun, just due to the dynamics and the motions that I personally feel really good and in control of. Put me on a snowboard I'll feel like I'm skate boarding and I will write my self off. It's similar but different. Anyway I used to WIPE out on the skiis on the red slopes and honestly it was fun every time I'd slide for ages and get back and do it again.
      I honestly have never enjoyed an experience as much as skiing, I want to make it a hobby but it's out of my price range for now lol.

    Started with skiing but i switched to snowboarding. I think snowboarding is more difficult to carve properly. Sure you'll get down the mountain with sliding turns. but keeping a solid edge and leaving a single line in the snow is a lot more difficult on a snowboard in my opinion. You dont see a lot of boarders leaving a sharp single line, most boarders do sliding turns.

    • @MountainVibes
      @MountainVibes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is definitely difficult to learn, but once one is able to do it, carving is quite easy. It all come down to placing pressure through out the board edge and just following the shape of the board.

    I disagree with you on one thing, skiing, in my opinion, is far safer than snowboarding. Ski’s have more control if you get good, which is the same for snowboarding, but skiing just has more control entirely. Ski’s also have a really good release that relies on your skill level, so if you fall, you don’t need to worry about your ski’s hitting you at all. One of my worst memories from snowboarding is falling down a steep black and hitting myself in my nose with my knee, then smacking my bicep against the edge of the snowboard, (which hurt a lot😂). I’ve never had this problem with skiing because my ski’s just clip out, my poles slip out of my hands and I tumble down, which is actually quite fun, although it is a pain going back up to grab my stuff.

    • @MountainVibes
      @MountainVibes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A good fall on both can really wreck you. But, yeah, some ski falls are less painful, as you described above. A good scorpion snowboarding can put you on the couch for a few days. Thanks for sharing.

    • @ashflame6888
      @ashflame6888 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But what about the twisting of the knee with skis..... because both feet are attached together it is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much harder to get a seriously leg/knee injury with a snowboard then with skis. I think that is one of the biggest advantages with a snowboard. Skiers knees go quicker IMO

    • @budgetme4661

    I started out skiing for 5 years and decided to switch to boarding because I was getting a bit bored of skis, on the first day I fell countless times and injured my wrist as well as hurting my lower back a little but, over the next few days i started falling less and less until eventually (after only 2 days practice) I almost stopped falling completely (except when doing tricks). If you are doing boarding, i would super reccomnend taking at least one lesson just to get the basics down, especially carving and going on a flat without catching an edge.
    If you're someone who has done board sports in the past it obviously helps with your snowboarding, I used to ride a ripstick so I was already used to the carving aspect. Hope this helps!!

      @NowImUnderControl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@henrygonzalez3842 Yes plus a lot of people teach it wrong and they make you think it's the triangle shape that stops you. So many people make a triangle shape with flat skis and that is not helping them break at all (even on flat slopes). You have to push the heels apart which will also put the skis at an angle (with inner edge contact with the snow) to stop this way.

    • @MountainVibes
      @MountainVibes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a tough one... Personally, I started skiing when I felt I plateaued as a snowboarder. Plus, hitting the mountain alone gave me time to learn skiing at my own pace. If you've got a bunch a friends who snowboard you can ride with them, but if they're riding at a high level, it will be frustrating keeping up with them. I'd say master skiing first, but jump on a board for a day or two, and see how you take to it. Both are fun... You just view the mountain differently.
