They turned out amazing! I have been interested in turning for quite sometime, I think it’s time to take the leap onto that rabbit hole. Just subbed your channel and looking forward to see the amazing projects you turn out.
Thanks and much appreciated! Believe it or not, this was only my fourth project on the lathe. It is quite addictive 👍 Been crazy busy with personal things, but hoping to push out some more great videos soon!
@@MTNurse Thanks! I appreciate that very much! But we'll see, there were some really great entries. Either way, I get a win for trying and learning something new 👍
I’m not a wood turner at all, prefer routers, tables saws etc.. Your idea’s in turning these two beautiful lanterns are fantastic. Really enjoyed seeing someone turn something so unique as your lanterns rather than the run of the mill epoxy bowls and pens. Very well edited video too. Thank you for showing some new ways around the wood lathe. We’re watching from Missouri. Thank you again.
@@jackdotzman2908 WOW! Thanks so very much!!! I'm still really new to lathe turning, just learning as I go. But loving it so far. Trying to put out unique and creative ideas to hopefully inspire others to risk doing something different 👍
Wow Josh, you just nullified my entry of a simple wine rack in the 2X4 challenge! Beautiful lamp! Great video and really good editing! Keep 'em coming but try not to outshine all the rest of us in these challenges! LOL
@@tracywinge6691 Thank you very much! Behind schedule on a huge corner hutch for a friend out of oak from her barn, so going to use scraps to make her a bonus gift like these 👌
I am not a turner either, but I love what you have done with simple construction materials, a cheap solar light and crystal. Looks amazing and would not mind having that on my dock. (If I had a dock)
@@joeclattenburg5417 Thanks so much Joe!🫡 Gonna make more of these with white oak or cedar. Great for not only docks, but decks, porches, patios, etc. Just an idea I had to do something different from the norm. Glad you enjoyed 👍
Beautiful work man. The light wood on the inside is a great touch, white paint would do similar, adding to the reflectivity of the light inside. The solar light is a fantastic idea... those are to sort of things to mark out a path, but not light an area. Preserves ambiance. Making those is pine are great, as somone wouldn't really want one, they'd want a half dozen or so and being cost prohibitive of hardwood would make those a harder sell.
Thanks so much!🫡 Absolutely right about those points, especially people wanting matching sets! I've actually been finding hardwoods from local sawyers cheaper than I can get 2x4s, and looking for cedar without knots as well 👍
@@brucematthews6417 Thanks, but I can't take the credit. I'm still self teaching on the lathe, got the idea from the greats doing Christmas ornaments. Just tweaked it a bit. Planning more spins on this method 👍

Great job. Found you from Bearded Viking Woodworks. Glad to see a fellow woodturner. I have a channel too!. I think these would make great craft show sellers. Have any measurements?
Final dimensions were 5 1/2" x 14". That was simply due to being restricted to a single 2x4. Many ways I plan on tweaking this design. Thanks so much for tuning in, I have a lot more coming 👍 I went off the reservation on this project and it proved rewarding in so many ways!
