Scary thing to note is that originally Guards were meant to be enemies, abusing their power and weapon possesion to threathen the Scientists because they were blaming them for the incident. There was even a point in the game where you were forced to kill a Guard and take his keycard to access the locked area. I am so glad we got the Guards we know and love today

I do like how the older models have a police belt, nightstick and imo a much better looking holster, wonder why they got rid of that. Also complete missed opportunity by Gearbox to bring back the nightstick as a unique melee weapon for Barney in Blue Shift.

If only Valve added more variety with the security guards in Half-Life 1 just like they did with the scientists instead of seeing the same security guard every single time... But here we are. I think the Half-Life Extended mod fixed that issue or so I've been told. Excellent video Rad and the Otis bonus at the end was pretty sweet.

@@fojisan2398 I also personally prefer them, and the gun ammo discrepancy hasn't really bothered me, primarily because I know next to nothing about guns. The original models are more stylized though, and there is something charming about them.

Barney's HL1 deathmatch model didn't exactly have a red shirt. All the MP models had selectable colours, so you could make the clothing whatever colour you wanted. You can select the colours of Barney's shirt and pants separately, but the steam menu doesn't let you preview the changes like the original menu did.
Multiplayer Barney isn't wearing red shirt and blue pants, he's wearing shirt and pants. The two colours are customizeable in multiplayer. I guess RadHaz is too young to have played the WON version of Half-Life.
I really can’t blame Barney(‘s) for wanting the scientists dead lmfao, that would’ve still fit the tone of the game I think. But I’m glad we got a friendly Barney who became an actual character later

Call me sacrilegious, but I kinda prefer the look of the "Ted Barney" guards over the final one, as well as the "HD" & PS2 security guards models. I wish the final guards had different looks to them for the sake of variety, just like with the scientists.
I'm curious cause i had a couple of experience on the half life mod development... but comparing to nowadays development... how hard is to do or add stuff to the game? I mean animations are more complex and you have more polygons and all that.. but we also have different tools... In terms of amount of time lets say to create a custom barney model... would it take the same time now that it took back in the days? Would love to know how development is now cause i miss creating maps and content for games but at this point seems useless cause you are either banned online and accused of cheating or the games wont allow it etc.. Also comparing to the mapping of other games half life allowed you to do so much... most of mods and games just cut features from maps.. specially maps to play online theres very little you can do besides architecture...
