What amazing marksmanship, not a single horse injured !!
Horses are more expensive than extras.
yes i know hilarious hoof hoof !!!
Very underrated and beautiful movie. Glorious.
I love how the MG42 isnt overheating or anything, it just keeps on hammering.
I love that MG42 was definitely brought by some time traveller :D
@@wojtek1582IRA's timetraverlers are the best, don't mess with them
Mg 42 in like 1918 or somthing. Must be be a really early model.
Not sure why, but this movie is, I think, the saddest ever made by Leone. Saw it when I was just a kid.
I agree. I really cared about the people in this film.
A great 60’s movie that still shows Hollywood how to do a fine action sequence with an incredible music track- makes me feel good every time I watch it ❤❤❤
70s movie
1971.
James Coburn was cool long before many of today's heroes were born.
The music as the bridge blows is so heavenly
I agree
Not bad to already have a tank-mounted MG42 in 1910. I guess the moviemakers never could imagine how aware of weapons and types our generation has become
and czechoslovak vz37 /for armored cars/ in 1:18:00
Pre internet trained experts i guess... 1971 still had rotary phones .... so no google then..
i guess you have a sad life as well lol
@@jimlascola you do know that google is used on other plattforms? back in 1971 we used google on giant, electromechanic calculators as big as an aircraft carrier.
There are a lot of WWII references in this film. I have never really treated it as an attempt to recreate history.
most underrated movie maybe best of leone movie
So real
leone sure hated bridges
Leone's most powerful film, and his most underrated.
absolute unrecognized brilliance !!!
Ferocious MG42 at 1200 rpm: the massacre machinegun
Indeed. A little before it's time- ! 😅
@@simongee8928hu karies
except after 200 rounds you need to change the barrel so super non realistic
@@simongee8928 that’s too quick, germans shoot belts of 1000 rounds....
And the movie is set in 1910s, during the Mexican revolution
The best scenes are this one, the one where the book with the patriotic title is thrown away, and the final one where the fans mourn when John blows himself up.
I think this is the best macaroni western movie ever made.
I love the look they give each other toward the end of the carnage. The smile. Such a great film
probably going back in time took him with him :D
To be fair the film takes place somewhere between 1910-1920 during the Mexican revolution. The machine guns here are very likely accurate to the time period
@@Blorp52 Rod Steiger is using an old French Hotchkiss heavy MG, which was a rough copy of the Vickers. James Coburn has a German Spandau. Both weapons date from the last years of WW1, and as this movie is set around 1920 (according to the most synopses) they are quite accurate and likely to be used.
@@xj900ukSteiger is using a Maxim MG08, and the other machine gun is indeed an MG42 without the stock. If you're gonna tell people that they're wrong at least make sure you are correct. A Google image search could've told you that the guns you're mentioning have nothing to do with the ones in the movie.
It's not wildwest era...
A man ,a patriot, forced to leave his homeland (Ireland) continues the fight against tyrants…sad but noble
If i'm not mistaken, he snitched his friend to Brittish because of his love to friends women.
I don't think he was ever a patriot.

Still one of the best scenes ever🙂
Un pur chef-d'œuvre
So that's where the theme song for Montreal's CHOM FM station came from!
Ear plugs for the dynamite. Not for the machine guns.
Look like cotton balls

MAGNIFICENT
Phenomenal, very sad and tragic movie.
Is that an MG 42??!!? Isn't this movie set 30 years earlier than 1942.. lol
yes it is an egregious anachronism. great movie though
And in one scene Coburn's character uses Browning HP.
Who cares about such details when movie is great?
Not to mention it would be red hot by the time he rests his hand on it at 4:36
Its a Vickers
@@DOI_ARTS I was talking about the one James Coburn is using. The Vickers that the other guy is using existed in 1912.
The best part of the film
Simply brilliant film. Even though some of the history is inaccurate, for example the Irish rebellion was in 1916 long after the events included in the movie, it is still a thought provoking movie with ideas about freedom, betrayal and social revolution to the fore.
Beautiful.
Machine gun goes off and my man starts praying 😂
Sergio Leone's tribute to Wild Bunch
Love how he pays tribute to Kubrick in Once upon a Time In America.
Mexican Colonel also starred in Wind and Lion 🦁 as German army 🪖 officer with Sean Connery, I think he is French actor.
Yeah, he was french, his name was Antoine Saint John.
@@angelomezzadri2463 That is right 👍 he always plays a evil German army 🪖 officer his character in Duck you Sucker he was Mexican army 🪖 officer but probably of German descent he was great in his sword 🗡️ duel with Sean Connery in Wind and Lion 🦁 and Connery spares his life because Connery was fair warrior.
Snuck inyo the theater when this came out
Once wise man said "it should be mounted on a tripod"
good shooter
By my estimation the MG42 should not exist for another at least twenty years & it sounds like it is impersonating a Browning. The rate of fire should be twice that of the Vickers
Plus you can't fire it that long. The barrel overheats.
just enjoy the movie boomer
An MG42 is an iconic MG. The best MG of anywhere in the 20th Century.
It's instantly recognisable to anyone who's seen a few You Tube vids or knows anything about the European Theatre of WW2. Like Mr Leone who's country was Occupied by Germany.
Mr Leone was just making an action movie, not a historical one.
The error just leapt out & diverted my attention from the sequence.
Good shoter
Must have had a large quantity of dynamite under that bridge; great scene!
Nitro.
With the cost of ammo now a days you could of just blown that bridge and saved yourself all those bullets.
Awesomeness job

If there is noting else on the television set and you are tired of watching the grass grow it is not a bad film.

I don't think they had MG42s in 1912, but whatever
top attack§§
When Hollywood started getting lazy the one machine gun not the maximum water cooled one would have melted the barrel up with that consistent rate of fire so that doesn't work very well. It showed that there was a way into the Gully and out of the Gully without the bridge being there if you look at the site shots so blowing the bridge really didn't do anything unless it actually been full of water so they added five minutes onto the travel time. I love Leon's work but Hollywood made him lazy
They are a military column with cavalry, logistic trucks and an armored car, so blowing the bridge will be much more efective than make them march five minutes more and that was the plan, give time to the others.
Name one Hollywood movie that is 100% realistic... I'll wait
@cyborgchicken3502 Being accurate is good nobody's a hundred percent Accurate, not even people outside of Hollywood. So your question has bias period if you go watch Schindler's list though it is awarded quite a high level of accuracy created by Stephen Spielberg that was a movie worth watching.
And it is rated as highly accurate by those who went through it not me.
Leone never worked for Hollywood
Shom, Shom, Shom.

what year is it in the movie?
Around 1913, roughly. During the Mexican revolution sometime.
@@mikewachumpski6152 thanks so no way mg 38
@sheadjohn yes the MG-42 is one of many historical inaccuracies in this. It is a poor documentary but I do like how it uses a forgotten and underemployed time and place (The Mexican Revolution) to weave it's epic yarn.
@@mikewachumpski6152 the movie can be fine. I like the actors works. it just seems weird to have the MG even a BAR or something would have looked less out of place. I would have been surprised to see a potato digger.
