This was massively helpful bro and guided me through the process perfectly! I managed to get a 1/4 drive 5mm Allen on the big cog things which made life easier! Don’t waste your time trying to undo them with the T20 torx I snapped 5 😅 thanks again dude you’re a lifesaver 🙏🏻🙏🏻
good guide, you can buy a tool off the internet to make removal and adjustment of the large cog screws holding the glass easier for 15 quid, it slides down from the outside of the glass between the rubber seal, A tip from a garage also is to make sure the pitch of the glass is correct by using the long socket nut at the bottom of the door jamb which has adjustment with the regulator slotted at the bottom and use the other door as a guide if not sure
Passanger side failed a month after the drivers. Definitely going to attempt this side myself. Video made it pretty much straightforward. Definitely gunna have to borrow a socket set though haha
Ive changed the regulator but now when close the window catches and sightly overhangs the centre frame. With no gap between glass and center column. How can i adjust the glass set
every guide ive seen on this everyone does the window holder from the back? you know if you get the window in the right place you can just use the hex on the front as it was designed to be done
@@s80heb bmw decided it would be a good idea to make them adjustable lol I had to loosen the retaining bolts for the window off, lift the window up and then tighten the bolts ans then reset the position and it worked, same goes for if it needs to go left and right ect. For some reason it don’t sit flat in the actual clips, just takes some fiddling about and testing.
@conkerman0278 i done mine, had to order c spanners, I used the measurement from the good side as a guide, mine is a f21 so no window frame so had to be measured properly. But works fine now, I think last owner changed the window after a break in and the people who fitted it didn't align it.
Just been quoted £448 by the local independent BMW specialist to do my driver's side regulator...2.5 hours labour apparently 🤣🤣. Going to order the part for £90 and do it myself since I just spent over a grand with the same garage for my VANOS solenoids.
@@geofus This is a long shot but would you know how to get the window to the down position when its firmly stuck up - I tried doing it on my 2 series which looks similar to your video, but couldn't get those large cog-looking things off in order to take the window off
Those stupid little hex nuts that hold the glass in place are a nightmare. So tight that i rounded one of the nuts and not have zero clue how im going to get them out.
They truly are a pain in the rear. I struggled my way through doing the driver's side regulator in mine last winter, and managed to get it done using a set of pipe grips. Wouldn't recomment it though. I have since discovered that there are specific tools for the job, which should make life easier. I am about to embark on changing the passenger side one tomorrow, and bought myself a Laser 5482 window wrench, which I am hoping makes life easier!
That click didn't sound right, you sure the torque wrench was calibrated? I have to do this job on my Sons car and after watching this, I might just torch it !

EASY you say. I am paying £320+ to get this fixed tomorrow on my 2012 F21 - £160 for the labour, £109 for the mechanism. Plus VAT.

Yes all calibrated that morning, I think torching is underated.
Great video Geoff. Could you assist me with my passenger side one please? I'll pay :)
Part number please
