I always said, with BTS, you never get empty fluff. Most kpop songs are entertainment, but most lack substance. Even the BTS songs that just seem like cute, fun songs, usually go pretty deep. But you often miss so much, unless you dig to find explanation videos. There are so many cultural references, double and even triple entendres, and symbolism in rm’s genius wordplay, that we would never get, if not for those videos. And unfortunately, RM deserves so much more appreciation, but people just don’t realize just how phenomenal he is in his lyrics.

For the longest time I haven’t been able to put the right words as to why BTS is so different from the other KPOP bands I have been a fan of. But what you said just put the nail on the head. There truly is little to no fluff with them; what you see is what you get. And the brilliant word play from the rap line - especially RM - just gives them a kind of sharpness that is rare in KPOP.
Go Go is, like you saw, actually a really deep and kind of sad song about the hopeless financial situation the younger generation are in to the extent that they've essentially given up trying to invest in their own futures. Shen they had the press conference for this album, they shared the true meaning behind this song which IS very BTS. Most albums they have what they call a "socially conscious" song where they give commentary on something they have observed or felt strongly about. They explained that GoGo was that for Love Yourself: Her; it’s a very sarcastic take on the mindset youth have on the value of money and how the older generations views it. All we want to do is squander our money when we have it and enjoy ourselves.
Yoongi said "The current generation uses phrases like YOLO and having fun squandering money, but I don’t think people think about why they use such terms so much even while using the terms. We tried to interpret [this phenomenon] through BTS’s unique perspective."
Namjoon also said, "The song revealed just how tough it was to be young in this day and age. It’s about how our young generation are living their lives with low expectations and standards so people are upset with reality; they have little hope and there’s so much economic hardship. We wanted to say something about it and emphasise to the world that it’s not their choice, but brutal reality that forces people to live and spend as if there’s no future."
On its surface, “Go Go” sounds like a blissed-out trip-hop ditty that prays at the church of YOLO partying. But in fact, the lyrics contain sharp criticisms of materialism and the emptiness that comes with knowingit's one of the few pleasures we get.

@@michellemichougraham198 I think you are all correct and like everything in life, the important thing is to have and keep balanced. There's an up and down side to everything in life, every choice anyone makes.About blowing our money, of course we should make wise decisions with any money we do make, ,but we should ALSO make the time (if at all possible) to do enjoyable, fun things just because we enjoy them so that we don't get bogged down in ONLY working, which leads to too much stress, not enough pleasure in one's life. Entertainment & getting out with friends & or family, gathering with others, concerts, restaurants etc, these times make the tougher parts of our lives more manageable. Too much entertaiment, too much not working, laying around, or just blowing ALL our money too fast that too leads to real financial troubles. If a person never gets to have any of the luxuries they want or to do some of the things they want to experience or be entertained by, then that is no good either., because that leads to boredom, feeling bitter, resentful, jealousy even in any cases.
We need to be balanced in all choices in life. There's rarely a choice that has only a black or white answer, and those two fit everyone. Each person has to just try to stay balanced in all areas to successfully get through life.
They performed this on a New Year special for TV...all other performers came dressed in formal or semi-formal wear and here comes BTS performing in their tracksuits/jumper...lol. BTS always setting trends lol. They all look so cute...there was video where all performers were on the stage, and they were the ones who were wearing different from all the performers hahaha.

Again we have to talk about the genius of RM's writing. He the English/Korean speaker can interchange the 2 languages as he creates these songs. Making words that match and words that rhyme even though they are two different languages. It makes it easier for English speakers understand a bit and really make raps make more sense in a way that I think a single language speaker could not do as well, (imo). This song is truly one of my favorites of their B side songs.
This song is very geared to the worries the young generation and you know this by the way they dance with many of the tiktok and other new dances in their live. Btw that was at Music Bank or a music show of that nature.
RM is an incredible poet and lyricist.

Idk what part of the Snow White part is my favorite, Yoongi screaming when he didn't lose the rock paper scissors, the shoes flying off, or V never once putting the apple down. The entire thing was pure gold.
I think why they are over the top is Taehyung. They are trying to cheer him up because he certainly didn't feel happy.
Usually on their older songs, the more upbeat it is the deeper the message.
Thank you so much John for doing the explanations!! I find myself becoming more and more disappointed by reactors who just refuse to watch them and just don't care what the song is really about. One of my favorite things about this group is their message and brilliant songwriting....which often just can't be understood by the lyrics alone. I am no longer content with reactors who just skim the surface. They are really missing out. ARMY grandma
agree! its so boring to watch a reactor just keep asking "what does this mean?! tell me in the comments!". like i get why they do it, but its SO LAZY. its literally one google search away and gives *so* much context so you can really appreciate what you hear and watch.
Actually I find this song a theme for a lot of seniors nowadays in the US. On Medicare and social security month to month is always asking, “lWhere’s the money at?”

I never watch this explanation video before, she does an amazing job ! We all know that BTS'songs, even the playfull or funny one, have deep and layering meanings, but some points are impossible to get without the Korean cultural or societal context. I've learn a little bit more about GoGo today, thanks to you and Meg to sharing this explanation video !

How the song relates to me:
So I was raised where both my parents spent money differently. My mom was raised to be very frugal. While my dad spends more money on things he likes (or truly wants) and doesn’t worry as much as my mom (I think it was how my father was raised). So I got both ends of the spectrum. Lol. I has taken me a while to realize that on trips or rare night oust, etc. to be okay to spend a little extra money and/or to treat yourself. I think both ends of the spectrum can be too much but their is a balance..
Yes!!! Love their Halloween costumes. They dress in Halloween costumes every year for us ARMYs (although I think they stopped doing this from around 2018). WAR OF HORMONE HALLOWEEN version is a must watch. Their costumes are god tier and hilarious🤣
In terms of this song, I think they are defending the n-po generation (which gave up on many things cause of the socio & economic difficulties they face) like their song DOPE. I felt like they are saying "don't give up your happiness even that might be spending on small treats. Just go for it."

I love watching your channel and reaction videos on BTS. Although I saw all their performances and heard their songs. I was not aware of the real meaning behind their songs. And I love them more deeper. They are so talented young boys. They dont write song simply to have songs to sing, but they make and write songs for a.purpose and something they want to convey to listeners. You do good research etc! Good job! All the best always.

My favorite! So deep. I love Go Go, I sing it every single day to remind myself not to buy stuff just to feel good. I think the funnier sounding BTS song is, the deeper and more political its meaning is.
Fun fact: bts is considered the creator or at least the one who popularized halloween dance practice with war of hormone in 2014.

One of the biggest tricks in BTS ones is not to just expect fin but lots of clever word play, lots of social commentary or other double context and these sorts of songs tend to be the ones you might see as just fun or catchy party songs. The Halloween dance practices are always majorly chaotic and they are so unserious which I adore. I think you watched the one where they each hid a heart and showed it off, such fun weirdos. Jin did this for a whole series of concerts he made and hid a small or giant paper heart every show and would eventually dramatically reveal it. It was so random and adorable. At the PTD concerts the last year Jin did special end of show accessory to be playful.

hmmm, I just realized I've never seen BTS play Go-Stop in any of their game sessions. I wonder if it is because it's kind of an older generation game? I learned the basics about 10 years ago and used to have card parties with my k-drama club. A legit Korean (hehe) taught us that the rules are somewhat fluid, and if there is a point of dispute, you pick the option that screws someone over the most. 😂🤣😂

They are official representitives of that game, too. They have played it so often to make important decisions. The last we have seen it was in a double epsiode of RUn BTS Flying Yoga: Tae won against Jimin and was allowed to take the hommock in the back.

About the crowds they usually where like this with BTS up till like 2020 because they exploded (even more then they already where) and people haven’t learned the chants or the culture of the chants/fans relationships. I do think that the people(ARMY) who stay with BTS even when they go to serve will be more of the ARMY that learn the chats, etc. (idk I could be wrong…maybe it is just a though)

i love all of them, V is my bias, he's snow white, since no one wants to tell you he doesn't seem to happy cause he lost his friend to suicide so he was depressed and upset as anyone would be.

They're always leaving context to either what the guys were talking about it at the time, what they're referencing, and/or Korean phrases we may not understand as well. Every time until before the pandemic they have their comeback in a studio in South Korea called Music Bank where all K-pop Idols sing their newest songs. There is a como us stair at music bank where all K-pop idols take pictures behind a stainless steel railing (its sort of a ritual). The las song sang by BTS at Music Bank was yet to come where the organizers made a especial stage for 5000 ARMY’s. This is the only televised show BTS assisted for many years.

I recommend you watch the old Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), Cinderella (1950), Robin Hood (1973), Lady and the Tramp (1955), Peter Pan (1953) and The Jungle Book (1967) etc. I love the old animations style, colors etc, and all the singing.
Mickey's Trailer (1938) is also fun and clever.
When I first saw the lyrics, I was like “oh! It’s a fun song about money” and boy was I wrong lol. BTS saying “I want to spend money like this a party” is them mocking those who say those things. The song is almost like a sarcastic remark in a way. A criticism of those who spend money without a second thought and just say YOLO to defend themselves. I’m glad I was wrong in the first place
The iconic dance practice by the way. There a video called “all of the things you missed in Gogo dance practice” and it just gets funnier and funnier every single second. Poor Tae lost a rock-paper-scissors BUT MAN DID HE LOOK GREAT
