    That 461 hauls. No replacement for displacement.

    As of December last year the 461 became discontinued. Last carbed stihl pro saw manufactured other than the 880 . And the 461 r (wrap model) is the one to get! Larger clutch cover , bigger dogs, a chain roller instead of a catch , high out put Oiler that has output of 1.1 instead 0.8 and yesterday I learned that from the factory the porting is slightly different ..... I can’t believe they don’t advertise it that way! I talked with a stihl tech through the customer service just yesterday and damn the 461r is a monster at the end of its Era !! I want bigger carbs not electronics!

    I like the redesigned clutch cover with capture nuts on 462, but it doesn’t have the nice chip deflector of the 461.

    461 vs 462c ... 76.5 vs 72.2 - that’s 4.3 cc which is a lot to make up in a piston port engine ... also the design of the 461 is superior for making power at least imho ... I could see the 462c running with or beating the 461 wearing a 20” bar .... 28” bar not so much .... just had to get out the house - and away from arb-stink for a minute ... Thanks for taking time out to make the video !

      At 12000 rpm that little piston is going up and down 200 times a second ! Stock intake timing for the 441c was 142 duration ... now it’s over 170 ... The exhaust port was raised giving more area (duration) and blowdown until the transfers open ... the transfers were raised which allows more flow from the crankcase at BDC ... usually you will get the same mileage but at a higher rate of speed or in this case faster chain speed ... it’s to no advantage to get more power but your out of fuel with 1/2 tank of oil left ! And I’m not implying in any way shape or form that Scott’s saws are this way - just making a point about “gutted stratos “. Good day !

    Do this test with at least a 32er seriously thought about gettin one but not sure if it will hold up in the woods

      I know a few loggers which have been running 462 with 32" bar. Quite a bit of time on them. So far everything looks good...they are holding up.

      Stock 461 will roast stock 462 with a 32

    Be better to compare it to a 441 wouldn’t it? Being it’s closer in displacement.
    461 was impressive

      well the 461 has years of development behind it. The 462 is new and still being developed. I'm pretty sure it'll get faster. May not get to 461 speed. BUT I think the 462 has more torque. Cut times are one thing. Torque is king out in the woods and Torque gain is hard to show on video.

    • @fabzacres-blackcat
      @fabzacres-blackcat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      462c has More torque than the 461? I own both and have not experienced that phenomenon ... perhaps the porting style is different ?

      I just finished building a 441c 70.7cc that hangs with a 461 76.5cc with a 20” bar but I doubt it wood with a 28” ... the transfer orientation of the 462c 72.2cc is a bit different than the 441c but I’m hoping I can get the same gains ! Anybody get pistons for 462c ? .. I’ve got all I can after trying about 6 combos on the muffler and now it’s jug/slug time !

    462 is looking good, even if it never beats the 461, still a fine power saw.

    • @Redbull661
      @Redbull661  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      2lbs lighter. I'd pick it over the 461 any day.

      TM is doing an awesome job on modifying the new saw as well. In a log it would be hard for the operator to tell the difference, they are so close.

      there is an air injector next to the flywheel. Surprisingly the air filter does not accumulate many chips. I think it's a very clean system.
