I am properly astounded by everything in this video: not only the editing and recording is (yet again) amazing, but also the playing is just next-level. I have never heard the Vierne Tocatta played in such a fine and precise manner: this performance is the first that makes me like the piece! Also the trio sonata is amazing: the tempo is nice and fast, yet the playing is not rushed and incredibly clear: to date I have never heard this piece played at this tempo with this degree of accuracy.
Thank you for this fabulous recital. A wonderful selection of music that really showed off the colors of the organ. I adore the Claire de Lune! Bravo!!! ❤❤❤ thank you James!!! And thank you Richard for amazing production as always!!!
What a magnificent sound! James played so confidently and well. The video of the Bach trio ,where it split into five screens and put his hands next to his feet- made me laugh. It reminded me of a figure under a mediaeval choir seat called a sciapod.
What a super recital!! Both musically and technically. I can't wait to hear what the sound is like when played through my sound system instead of through my Laptop!! Thanks so much
Absolutely amazing production again. Attended a recital here earlier this year. Fine casework and a very nice instrument indeed. Excellent recording as always!
Filthy chords at the end of the Bednall! I bet you enjoyed playing that Goughy. Your trio sonata was immaculate and Dr Glyn Jenkins would have said it “sounded well”. Bravo, terrific playing xx
The original cathedral cat, Doorkins, was originally a stray cat who would visit regularly (after initially coming to the cathedral in 2008) and was later adopted by the cathedral. When she died in 2020, there was a memorial service for her. Eventually, the cathedral got another cat, Hodge.
The architecture of Southwark Cathedral bears a striking resemblance to that of Salisbury Cathedral. Both were, of course, built around the same time (although the nave of Southwark Cathedral was rebuilt in the 19th century).
Max Reger is a very difficult composer for a many of organ player. He self Said about his own fame: „I will (after my death) be laid to the old iron, but my time will come“.. In my opinion Reger is by his life history one of the interessant composer at the beginning 20th Century totally underestimated. Reger was in 1900/1901 in his Upper Palatinate time, where Vierne would be in early 1920. He was catholic by uprising, but married to a lutheran women. His most pieces have themes of lutheran Chorals. He was big defender of J. S. Bach, but in his words his music was catholic on to the Finger tips. That all is a difficult thing; but as a man, grow up in the Upper Palatinate with Reger Great Introduktions to chorals, Reger give a lot of good Music
Glorious Reger!

Thank you, Jerry! Glad you enjoyed.
Thank you James and BIS. Loved the David Bednall. A fine program, great performance and as ever, well produced.
This might be one of my favourite organs. That Vierne - what a way to open the program! 👏👏👏
Back again to add that the sound is absolutely incredible. Wow.
A very nice recital with a nice and various program. As a sucker for early music I really liked the Boyce piece, nice arrangement. Thanks, Richard.
Henry Willis organ factory was in Petersfield and Henry Willis, who I met many time, was quite a character.
Fabulous

I absolutely love the sound quality in this recording Richard! And what amazing playing from James!
Thanks very much, John! Much appreciated and glad you enjoyed. Hope all’s well. J

A lovely recital. An excellent programme beautifully played and shewing that wonderful organ to great advantage.
That opening!

Haha yes! Total filth! Thanks Caroline - would be good to catch up soon! Richard is a genius!
And there is also a cat! 😻

WOW....🙄
The organ was a beautiful instrument the music selection not so much
This is playing and a concert programme of the highest order! What a moronic comment. If you want popularist, go to Blackpool.
Will there be a demo of the organ soon?
Yes, probably next year though
@@beautyinsound it’s worth the wait.
