I have not seen this movie, I just saw the original which I thought was phenomenal movie. I just read the synopsis of this film. I thought that you are right about the decision making and characterizations. This is because in they tried to make a "psychopath" horror movie out of social commentary slow burn psychological drama. If you watch the original I believe you will like it more. The third act is completely different.

I felt the movie was okay, a little disappointed with character choices and writing. Such as near the end, i felt they dumbed down the fathers decisions to prop up his wife , who was honestly a pretty garbage person, along with her trying to gaslight the husband "i told you we shouldmt have come back here"... He wanted to leave YOU wanted to come back for the damn bunny lolol ... And i agree, mcavoy was definitely the best part of the movie

Yeah the dynamic of the couple was a wreck haha definitely a key issue of mine as well.
