  • Do you wonder how to store extracted honey supers? Many beekeepers make mistakes storing their honey supers only to find them destroyed by small hive beetles are wax moths.
    Beekeeping can be a challenge. Are you just starting out? If you are new to beekeeping or you keep failing, I strongly recommend you take my Ultimate ONLINE Beekeeping Course.

    Love the video David,glad to see finally a video after it seems a long time.
    On the feeding station not being close to your home,well for us it's the only way we can work it.
    The hives are 10-20 feet from the property.
    A small garden with hives in all doing great and hopefully no losses in overwintering for the 2019 upcoming season.

    Interesting!
    All I have ever done is let the bees clean them up and then store them in supers in the bee yard and have never had wax moth get in the honey frames.
    I have had wax moth in brood frames with a little bee bread or maybe a little larva or dead bees from an overwinter dead out.
    But they have never destroyed my foundation ever. Just went in and cleaned up the left over bee bread, brood and larva.
    I just brush off the cocoons and webbing and put them in a hive in need of foundation and in a day they have them all cleaned up and in use.

    I stored a super in my porch, I pulled off because I was treating mites, that's what I had in my porch! They moved every bit of honey from them!

    In a communal feeder like you’re demonstrating, you must certainly pick up wasps and hornets. Do they become problematic?

    Thanks for the info and we enjoy the classical music :) Just wondering, why must the wet frames be far from the hives?

    • @beek
      @beek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they are too close, the bees might rob out your hives.

    When the bees are done cleaning the super's what do you do with the empty box's? If the moth went after the old frames in the basement what about the box's?

    If you mentioned it, I missed it. What would you recommend is the minimum distance away from the hives should this ‘ feeding station’ be?

    Nice video just curious what do you do to eliminate foam when you get to the end of a bucket as you're bottling

    • @beek
      @beek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you. I allow the honey to sit in the bucket for about 3 or 4 days. Most of the foam (air bubbles) rise to the top and the gate is at the bottom so very little if any foam enters the bottles. Once the content is mostly emptied from the bucket, the last few bottles will have more foam and I keep that for me ;)

    Love the hive feeding station . I can't help but wonder , could this possibly train bees to be robbers ?

    Hey i love your videos. Very informative. I do have a question though. What do I do with supers that are ready to harvest but I don't want to harvest them yet because I have to rent the extractor. So I want to wait til the bees are done bringing in excess nectar.? Can I pull them and store them somehow to keep the bugs off? Or should I leave them on the hive and keep adding empty supers as needed?

    • @beek
      @beek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do not take them off until you have the extractor ready to roll

    Hi David enjoy your videos , I learn something ever time I watch , question does freezing honey have any effect on it at all as far as quality. Thanks Peter Australia.

    • @beek
      @beek  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Peter in Australia. I've never noticed any difference in the quality of honey if it freezes. Sometimes, this happens naturally here in the north with a super on top when bees are clustered low.

    Let them clean it up and feed them.

  • @josephvogel7234
    @josephvogel7234 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    At about 8:03 it seems like you are saying that you are taking the supers you just harvested honey from (wet frames) and simply storing them in a 70 degree room in house like conditions...Then you go on to explain how to set up a robbing station. What?

    • @beek
      @beek  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Joseph, not a robbing statin but a feeding station. Sometimes I place wet supers for the bees to clean up outside, but sometimes after they have cleaned them up I place them in a cool room. And even if I place wet supers out for the bees to clean up, it is not enough to equal a community feeder as I set up. Also, some states make it illegal to place wet supers out for the bees to clean up, not sure if this is small hive beetle control or what.
