David, you have the ability to look into a glass lens and know there are eyes looking back at you. You lay out your presentations as if we're there with you. You're talking to us, not at us. I love how you go into detail about how certain circumstances occur, and then offer a solution. This helps us not only identify the WHAT, but more importantly, the WHY. As a "newbee", I find your videos very informative and super easy to understand. Thank you for all you do to help educate the masses in this exciting (and sometimes frustrating) hobby!!! 😊

Not a box of bees really, I would have removed the qx for a week, but then my supers are same as my brood. Then consider putting qx back into place. But I have to say your result is very good and that’s an understatement. So great idea. Well done. Hats off.

You give what you receive, and we get a lot of great knowledge and life advice from you! Im sure many are sharing some of the same advice you are giving. Im sure theres a lot of people that end up having a better day when they hear your life advice. Thanks for your giving, David. Your video on the lavender farm was fun, I did buy some stuff from him. Maybe in the future you can take a "trip" once a month or two and have a visit at some local or maybe not so local places. Like while you're on your business trips, take a short clip of something inspiring to you and share it. Like a little field trip for your veiwers. Love your content, and your classes helped me so much when I was getting started 2 years ago now. Thanks, David!

I always leave my bees when going into winter a full super of honey, and I top that up with feeding syrup for me my bees welfare is more important than greed. This system has never let me down I get all the hives through to spring healthy and alive that's my goal if I have lost colonies in the past never starvation but through mites! I have been doing bees since 1983 but what makes a good beekeeper is not the years been doing it but having an open mind from other beekeepers like yourself I love your videos learning new things all the time, one of my favourite videos of yours was using two nucs to make honey very interesting thanks Dave.

David, your colony isn't strong enough, and/or not enough nectar coming in, that is why they are not drawing it. Bees should be boiling at the top of the frames of the below box as you took the top box off.

David, this a good word. BTW: I had a swarm. The local commercial beekeeper said it was because I placed a queen excluder between a partially drown out deep (w/foundation) and a partially drawn out medium (w/foundation). There were queen cells on the frames of the bottom deep. Ideas?

You noted earlier in the video that the upper (green) super was mostly nectar. Nevertheless, wouldn't you put an excluder between the upper deep and the top super just to be sure since you didn't look for the queen?

Love what you do! Very informative! I’m a new bee keeper is it best to harvest honey in July, or in the fall or is it best to do both? This hive has overwintered well and currently has 2 nearly full supers on top of 2 deep brood boxes that are full of brood and honey. Any advice would be appreciated.

It was cold here this season longer than usual. I lured a small swarm in early June and I fed them 1.5 gallons of 1:1. They quickly drew on 7 frames in my 8 frame meduims about half way and slowed down, so I quit feeding for a while. The population has increased a little and I think it's about to increase again, so I started feeding again.
Maybe I should make a super? Maybe I just need to be patient?
At the moment (July 5) it seems more like I'll have to feed this hive this Winter.
Any guidane will be appreciated. Thank you.

Just a thought, would the double queen excluder result in not having a queen in one of the brood boxes. If so I feel the queen may swarm sooner than later due to potentially running out of space to lay in. Thoughts??

Takes bees to make wax. It appears the first hive has maybe an adequate population for a nuc. I think you need to look for the queen, as the colony has probably swarmed.

This method did not work for a hive of mine. The queen (she was newly hatched this spring) ended up in the bottom box and the bees in the top box started making queen cells with the eggs that were in there.

Wow. I'd love to be able to call and talk to you or someone about this. I'm having the same prob. I started with a world of probs from the beginning. I only got about 1k bees in my nuc. A young queen. My mentor said I didn't have enough bees to sustain life and he gave me 3 full frames of cap brood. I then went and upped my feeding to a frame feeder. They still not drawing comb. I've rewaxed the empty frames. Going to check them tomorrow.

What a cool idea. I’m going to try it but with three excluders. The question is how long do I learn the queen isolated in one of the three boxes. I’m guessing a week would give the super buildouts a jumpstart. Love this video!

If the Colony makes a "Honey Bridge" in that upper Deep : the Queen can't lay beyond or above this.
A Honey Bridge is a way to keep Bees and have a Honey Crop, without the Queen laying in that Honey.
      Hope this helps. 😎

A Honey Bridge is a curved Area of Capped Honey that is like an Arc of Honey in the upper part of the Brood Frame.
