Growing up in East Tennessee I got my motorcycle license at 14 and now I am 65. My dad got me into bikes and it’s a life choice that never left me. Dad rode a 1967 Electra Glide but I always chose Suzuki, Yamaha or a Kawasaki and had many. What is sad for me is I never got my first HD until 2003 and dad passed in 1989. I wished I had got myself a HD and rode with him more than you can imagine. After riding /buying Harley Davidson over the last 55 years I can say for me I definitely have a love/hate relationship with Harley Davidson. If you really believe that "sport bikes" are more expensive to maintain than Harley Davidson motorcycles you're in denial of the truth!! I've ridden just about everything there is to ride and have owned around 40 differnt bikes of all different major brands and even many off brands...Harley Davidson is by far the most expensive to own/maintain with only a very few exceptions....I ride approximately 10 to 12k miles per year....but in the end we're all on two wheels...great video brother!!! Keep'em comin'!!!💪🏻🙌🏻😎
@@OldNotDead-Club I’ve owned 7 Harleys in my life and compared to all the other bikes I’ve owned they’re typically higher cost to maintain and repair and repairs are far more frequent than other brands I’ve owned. If you do all of your own maintenance and repairs the cost is less , but the cost is usually higher for HD….my BMWs and Hondas and Suzuki’s and Yamahas and BSA’ and Triumphs were always less expensive to maintain and repair…and repairs on all of those bikes with the exception of BSA were far less frequent than HD in the long run making them less costly to own.
I've ridden several Harley's on long distance trips, didn't find them to be any more a feeling of freedom than the many Japanese cruisers I've owned. My Yamaha Road Star 1700 with nice pipes, or my current 1700 triumph Storm is every bit as nice a ride. Actually, the Triumph is hands down the best cruiser I have ever experienced.
Great video im glad you addressed this although I disagree in so far as there are in my opinion far better value motorcycles out there that give the same if not better image, performance etc but each to their own, ride what you like to ride and enjoy yourself. One more point I disagree on is that there is not other manufacturer out there who makes bikes to be customizable, Royal Enfield literally design their bikes to be customizable and advertise as such. Im catching the overnight bus tonight to go pick up my new P Twin cruiser from Ballarat so dont have time to enter the competition now but id like to say what I really enjoy about your videos, several things come to mind first of which is the poignancy of what you say, I can tell a great deal of thought has gone into the things you say and anyone listening can pick up valuable information that could change their lives, this is helping people out there, that is what I most like.
@@OldNotDead-Club Just got back to Mildura after whipping around the Great Ocean Rd, getting soaked 4 or 5 times, back over the Mountains to Ballarat for first service (500km) and back to Mildura, bloody cold few days to do that run, makes you feel like your alive though, the bikes wonderful, low, brooding, powerful enough pulls really well, rear shocks are pretty sharp might need a look at but $11600 all up paid cash id recommend anyone looking at a cruiser style bike to check them out and maybe take one for a test ride.
The definition of freedom to me means doing what I want as long as no laws are broken and no one gets hurt. That's my short answer. I'm not going to bore you with constitutional rights.
Freedom is privilege. If you can get away with something other people in the same society can't, then you are "free". So as long as long as everyone else follows the rules to the letter, it allows you to lean on the predictability present in the rest of society to take your advantages (exploit your privilege) for personal benefit. Your privilege is "paid for" by the adherence to law from everyone else.

What is Freedom? The right and ability to pursue your happiness however you like. So long as you don’t bother anyone else. I feel pretty free on my bike. Never ridden a Harley. My free choice, feel free to enjoy yours. Image maters when you choose any bike. Something about a bike has to mean something to you and speak to you. The Harley image, Harley have done a pretty good job it. When you by a Harley here in Canada or the US. You just joined a huge group of riders and dealers. 1 % or a Wild Hog. Who cares ride your own ride.
@@OldNotDead-Club and dudes like us look good during every mile or klick that we travel. We look good because we’re on actual Harleys. No one will ever say to us “it looks just like a Harley”
Freedom, Rebellion, Tough guy. Maybe a few that actually know how to change their own oil and ride more than 2 hours for a beer then home again. Most Harley riders I meet are ordinary guys who no very little to nothing about the workings of their bikes and don't even attempt their own repairs. Freedom and Rebellion are patches they buy online for their Jackets. The real tough guys, rebels and freedom riders aren't on Harleys they are on adventure bikes travelling the world. And by the way I don't think riders who wear safety gear are "Hung Up" I think those that don't are stupid
Lol, i dont think the majority of adventure bike riders have adventures - its a marketing gimmick "adventure bike" What does changing oil have to do with freedom?
Guess I’m totally free…zero debt, home, vehicles (cars, boat, motorcycle) and credit cards all at zero. Ok, I am married but she has the motorcycle, boat and convertible to choose from.
I found out my stock 2019 C50 mufflers will not pass the sound decibel 93 idle 97 at 2000 rpm. 97 top muffler 100 bottom . over 100 decibel at over 2000 rpm. Edmonton Alberta passed the law in 2017. The fine was $250 now $1000 and doubles with the second ticket. Now there is a petition online to bring in sound cameras in Alberta cities like Paris and London. Look's like I do not need to up or downgrade to louder pipes. Need to get quieter mufflers or get a stock😀 Harley.
Western media has indeed greatly contributed to the misunderstanding and stereotyping of H-D culture; however, I believe part of the reason we so often associate "rebellious freedom" with riding a Harley nowadays, is because of the hippy craze spike in the '50s and '60s in America, a cultural paradigm shift that encouraged a bold and loud way to escape from the standard, daily mundanity of society, by being brave enough to break the everyday robotic routine, and defy the norm by enjoying life in the fullest moment. The media picked up on that cultural phenomenon and greatly dramatized and over-exaggerated it, and it has stuck around ever since. It's a great marketing tool nowadays. In modern times, I personally prefer to associate riding a Harley with a very specific definition of freedom, and one that does not base itself in the hippie craze. Riding a Harley lets you fully take in the environment around you, with a relaxed seating posture as compared to the tiresome "attack" position of speed bikes. A Harley does not encourage you to gain speed or go faster, rather it enables you to free your mind while riding. While the same could be said for any type or brand of motorcycle, a Harley produces a sound unlike any other, and you also know full well you got a beast of a machine between your legs that's fully capable of tearing you to shreds if you don't respect it. It's the freedom to enjoy riding for extended periods of time, while simultaneously enjoying the landscape around you, while also being aware you're in control of a scary and beautiful beast, and being fully invested in your present moment, being much closer to the road, feeling every twist and turn, and being the master of your own fate. As for haters, I daresay most would fall into one of these 3 general categories: those who are greatly misinformed about the biker world and think every H-D rider is a criminal of sorts; those who express jealousy and envy over ownership of a Harley because of how openly expressive and "macho" it is, and it being a premium and expensive luxury that they cannot afford; and those who only see the biker world through one subjective and biased lens, and think only one type of motorcycle is the real type of motorcycle. Thanks for this video, ride hard, ride safe, and keeo up the great content!
My pleasure, and thanks again for everything you do on this channel. You're an inspiration to many. I also would like to add, a Harley is a highly customizable bike, and you MUST customize it to an extent. I daresay there is also a vast freedom in how you decide your Harley is going to be.
Meh, recent HDs are good now. They've had a ton of issues since the AMF days though. From belt tensioners grenading the engines to breaking compensators, scissoring cranks, speed wobbles, wheel bearings falling apart, glazing cylinders, breaking brakes, stuff rattling loose, and on and on. Even the M8s had their share of ruined engines from sumping prior to 2020. I could care less about marketing. They gotta say what they need to to attract riders. I've been a fan of the touring bikes since the 80s as my wife likes to travel. I was always concerned that an HD would stand up to the way I ride them. So far, my 3 yr old RK going on 48k miles has been great. As HD has killed this model, it will probably be my last. Fortunately, they lend themselves to being rebuilt...
I think if you subtract the first year of any new model release (same with cars) you can avoid most dramas. I have had a stellar run for 40 years with all vehicles
Yeah, H-D will cut corners on every new release, then gradually iron out most issues in later releases. Their business model is banking on parts and maintenance first, then higher price tags later. They're not the only brand doing this, but they can get away with much more because most Harley owners won't readily push the bike to its limits so it'll take time before they notice the issues. This is a major reason why I don't encourage buying a new release, or a brand new H-D to begin with. Get a used H-D that's been tried and tested, with many parts fixed, and had been taken care of. You'll be customizing it and rebuilding it yourself down the line either way.
Interesting video - I think you’re talking about people who are a bit tribal like you say and are either for their tribe or against it, like football teams. Harley has built a world-class brand image no doubt about it. Personally, I’m a leader and a bit of an outsider (as per your other video) and I’m just in the process of buying a 2019 Breakout mostly because I love the way it looks, it’s as simple as that. It’s a work of machine art. I don’t really care what anyone else thinks, just like I don’t expect anyone else to have an opinion on who I date, what house i buy or what colour I paint my walls. It’s got f**k all to do with anyone 😂

Thanks that's much appreciated. Email please.
Thanks for watching. Why do you think Harley are expensive to maintain?
@@tjzulu1 Thanks, I've owned 7 Harley's too and found the opposite
I've ridden several Harley's on long distance trips, didn't find them to be any more a feeling of freedom than the many Japanese cruisers I've owned. My Yamaha Road Star 1700 with nice pipes, or my current 1700 triumph Storm is every bit as nice a ride. Actually, the Triumph is hands down the best cruiser I have ever experienced.
Always informative, and gets you to really think. Cheers on crackin 10 000. 👍😎👍

Yes it does or something similar. That tells you a lot.

Harley needs to drop it's connection with Budwiser.
I'm doing a video on the reason why it's happening soon
Harley-Davidson is the best period!!! ✊🏻🤙🏻
lol i agree
I couldn't have said better. You came up with some very intelligent points. I agree with everything you said. Well done indeed.
Thank you that's much appreciated
Oh PS congratulations on the 10,000 well deserved.
Thanks, let me know how you go with the RE when you get it
Thanks much appreciated
@@OldNotDead-Club Just got back to Mildura after whipping around the Great Ocean Rd, getting soaked 4 or 5 times, back over the Mountains to Ballarat for first service (500km) and back to Mildura, bloody cold few days to do that run, makes you feel like your alive though, the bikes wonderful, low, brooding, powerful enough pulls really well, rear shocks are pretty sharp might need a look at but $11600 all up paid cash id recommend anyone looking at a cruiser style bike to check them out and maybe take one for a test ride.
You always go deep when I least expect it. Or I'm just needing to hear it. Indian man myself. Love your videos.
Thanks that's much appreciated
The definition of freedom to me means doing what I want as long as no laws are broken and no one gets hurt. That's my short answer. I'm not going to bore you with constitutional rights.
I agree it's not however boring lol
Freedom is privilege. If you can get away with something other people in the same society can't, then you are "free". So as long as long as everyone else follows the rules to the letter, it allows you to lean on the predictability present in the rest of society to take your advantages (exploit your privilege) for personal benefit. Your privilege is "paid for" by the adherence to law from everyone else.
Great comment, thank you
G'day, another great video! Two of my favorite baddies in Tyson and Popeye. Congrats on 10,000🎉
Thank you and thanks for watching
Y'all wanna feel, and stay free...DON'T get married. Just get on your Harley, and ride...

Forever two Wheels = Freedom long live tha Motorcycle. 👍👍👍☠️
Spot on!!
Thanks that's good advice
How awesome 10K!
Congratulations Aymen 👍🤓🇦🇺
Thanks mate, much appreciated
I’ve never put a single kilometer on my Super Glide.
But I have put over 96 thousand miles on it.
That's a lot of miles
Love the channel. New to the Harley scene and loving the videos.
Thanks that's much appreciated
Congrats! You are right love my Ultra way better than my softail. I have so many LED lights on it. Lol
Awesome bike!
Guess I’m totally free…zero debt, home, vehicles (cars, boat, motorcycle) and credit cards all at zero. Ok, I am married but she has the motorcycle, boat and convertible to choose from.
lol, nearly free
I found out my stock 2019 C50 mufflers will not pass the sound decibel 93 idle 97 at 2000 rpm. 97 top muffler 100 bottom . over 100 decibel at over 2000 rpm. Edmonton Alberta passed the law in 2017. The fine was $250 now $1000 and doubles with the second ticket. Now there is a petition online to bring in sound cameras in Alberta cities like Paris and London. Look's like I do not need to up or downgrade to louder pipes. Need to get quieter mufflers or get a stock😀 Harley.
Happening everywhere, the older I get the less I like cities

Great comment and its much appreciated
@@Fady117 that's not a Harley thing, all vehicles and all complex products ie cameras have this issue. It's not deliberate
Great video. Very well thought out and well presented!!!
Thank you that's much appreciated
Congrats, I enjoy you take.
