- The Østerild wind turbine test field is located in the north of Denmark. Here, new wind turbines are first tested on land before they are erected on the high seas. A newly developed turbine with 14 megawatts had to be erected for the company Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. Two Liebherr LR 11350 crawler cranes from the Danish crane company BMS Heavy Cranes A/S were on site to install the wind turbine. Both cranes were equipped with power-boom as well as luffing jib to 185 metres hook height with 380 tons ballast. First the 10-metre high nacelle, which has a volume of 800 cubic metres, was lifted. This was followed by the generator, which was by far the heaviest load.

Unbelievable to have two large cranes to make a tandem lift at 91% of capacity, never saw anything like that before.
As an ex fm Mammoet and Sarens never seen as well such tandem lift .
Wind at that stage is a great great risk . When it grows up to 11 m/s during opération , this overload one crane .. 😱

That weight of the nacelle and the weight of the 2nd pick must be super heavy. In order to need 2 11350’s with a ballast tray and each crane isn’t stretched out much that just tells you how heavy those things are. They keep making them bigger and heavier.
