Stockholm is the capital of Sweden. It has the most populous urban area in Sweden as well as in Scandinavia. 1 million people live in the municipality, approximately 1.6 million in the urban area, and 2.4 million in the metropolitan area. The city stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. Outside the city to the east, and along the coast, is the island chain of the Stockholm archipelago. The area has been settled since the Stone Age, in the 6th millennium BC, and was founded as a city in 1252 by Swedish statesman Birger Jarl. It is also the county seat of Stockholm County.

Fascinating seeing these outlying districts and all the modern development. I have noticed that beyond central Stockholm there are very few old buildings. I wonder if that's because there really wasn't much in those areas that was worth retaining.

Dik - you are absolute right. It's the inner city ( innanför tullarna) that have the historic old buildings and character. The only part in Stockholm inner city that is relative new is around Centralstationen, Stockholm needed to make that area modern in order to grow as a modern city. Many houses/appartment in the best locations in Gamla Stan and in Söder is municipal rent appartments , they are cheap for swedish standard and the shape is 10 of 10, you can get more information about the history and how the houses in Söder and Gamla Stan looks inside, Stadsholmen(municipal rent company) site. The interior is pretty much like the old days). For example the house Nordin showed us at Yttersta Tvärgränd 2, is over 250 years old and has had the same look over 200 years.
Nordin and his friend Mr Isak goes live today around 16.30 swedish time.

I really like the look of Sundyberg as well as how it sounds when pronounced! This will be one of the many places I will be looking forward to walking around on my adventure around Stockholm, so getting a preview is nice!! I actually learn a lot more on your channel than you give yourself credit for so thanks as always!🙏💙💛😎

There is an old saying that goes something like ... "teaching is one of the best ways to learn" Even native speakers of a language keep learning their own language if they are curious enough.

Hello🙌🏻 the walks are getting more active😅, no more snow obstacles or slippery paths. If only work permits, I’d be asking my husband to pack our things and travel back to Sweden!Thank u for actually taking time to talk to your viewers and just telling us where u are😃I don’t need to walk the steep sidewalks since you are already doing it for us😄 bet you got good quads muscles right now!We all could read about history and culture, not a problem👍🏻 tack vår gode vän! Hope its correct😅.

Have you come across the phrase ‘earworm’ for those tunes or songs that get stuck in your head? They can be very annoying. I enjoyed today’s walk and caught up with your trip to the country park with Olov. Interesting going inside the church and early farm houses. Re languages….Is there a close relationship between Nordic languages? For example do you pick up a Norwegian easily now you are a Swedish speaker.

No i have never heard that phrase. Yes Norwegian is easy to understand for me. When i went to Oslo i could almost get by just by speaking Swedish. But Danish is much harder and more different. Same thing goes for Icelandic. Finnish is completely different and has nothing in common with Swedish.
