    Susie, I just have to say that I really love your channel! I think I found you like a month ago or so and I can't wait for the new video each week. You are super down to earth and keep things simple. I've been doing the CGM for a few months now and bought a travel size of the SM Smoothie and like you, hadn't really liked it. It was a bit thick for me as well. I did just try it again today, by coincidence, and applied it on soaking wet hair before I applied my gel. I actually like the way it came out this time (I think previously I had blotted dry my hair a bit so it wasn't dripping wet). I've watched some videos on Smasters, and will definitely give this a try. Thank you for the super easy video tutorial. I'm excited to see you experiment with different products. I've been using DevaCurl and love it, but would like to see some other products that are a bit more budget friendly and how they work for you. Thanks!

      Thank you so much Christine! Another thing I noticed since trying heavier products is that I actually have to wash my hair more often. I used to be "co-wash" only, but lately I've been washing my hair with a low foaming shampoo every 10 days to 2 weeks & my hair seems curlier & shinier. There is so so much trial and error. Im all about the cost effective products lol.

    • @christinereal6967

      Which low foaming shampoos have you tried/liked? I've only been using DevaCurl No Poo and I like it, but it's nice to try other things. Acutally, I just watched your DevaCurl review video and it made me wonder about my hair. I only know that brand for now, and I need to try others to see if it makes a difference because my curly look good, but I do have some blah pieces throughout and maybe have a protein sensitivity as well. So many things to try/learn from!

      Tell me about it! I try to keep it as simple as possible... there are SO many products. I have used my baby's aveeno shampoo & also aveda rosemary & mint shampoo. (I had a bunch of samples)

    I'm so glad I found a fellow Canadian Curly Girl! I just started my curly journey this January: my hair is quite damaged and dry (thanks Prairie winds lol) so I'm in "hair rehab" right now, but I think I can try this method! Thank you so much for sharing. And thanks for adding the major silicones to avoid in your description box! You've got a new subie ;)

    Your videos are fantastic! Here's a tip for curly people with dandruff. Dandruff is caused by microbes we all have on our skin reacting negatively with our scalp. When I'm in the shower I use a dandruff conditioner--there are at least 2-3 brands of condish out there like this that are curly girl safe--(no shampoo!) in a squeeze bottle with a cone shaped tip. I dilute that with water to make it more fluid in the shower and I apply that to my scalp, massage it into my scalp really good and apply my cowash to the rest of my hair. I let that sit while I wash my body. Then I rinse it all out and use a microfiber towel to scrunch out most of the excess water. I apply my products. (In my case I have very porous hair so I use the heavier Shea Moisture line made for porous hair.) Then I have to diffuse because the moisture plus the heat of my scalp encourages the growth of these unwanted microbes--no air drying for me. I have dandruff and itch free hair for up to 4 days--and a very clean scalp!--without the use of dandruff shampoo. Ever. Hope that helps someone!
    Susie you are so beautiful! I'm so jealous that all you have to wear is a light lipstick and look so fantastic! Great channel!

    I just love seeing what you do. Your hair is wonderful. I'm quite a bit older, and have to go on a trip soon. I'm terrified that I can't figure out what to do with my hair by then. I have been growing it, and had the bottom of it trimmed recently to blunt the it. Now, it's harder to keep a curl... of course. I knew it might not be the best cut. I've only seen a couple of your videos so far, and love what you're teaching, but I copied down what you said in a previous video, so will try to get some of the products. I see that you have some layers. Everytime I tell a stylist to cut it to encourage the curl, they layer the bottom so much that it thins out the edge and it's even more frizzy. I don't know how to overcome that. Everytime it gets to a certain length, and I have to get a trim, it takes another year to get most of the layers grown out. I think, before I cut it again, I'll try to get some of the products you show. I have a Sally here if that's a good place to try to find the products. Any advise beyond what you've already provided? Thank you so much for these videos.

    Susie, I have only just begun my curly girl journey. A little over a week ago, I just played with the technique and not changing product. This week end I made the plunge and went to Sally and bought the Shea Moisture products. I bought the Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen and Restore Shampoo, and the Curl and Shine Conditioner as well as the smoothie and the curl and Style Milk. Honestly I have felt a little overwhelmed with the product part of the curly girl method and just saw them recommended a lot so went and got them instead of looking any further. I felt it a bit heavy but so much better than before I started the CG way that I thought maybe it's just a transition stage thing, so definitely going to try this smasters technique. But I have a question...I forgot I needed a gel...if I have this product do I need a gel too? Would you co-wash then gel then the smoothie? I haven't decided what to do with the milk yet...maybe add it in my spray bottle of water like you said....follow what I heard you say, "because someone on you tube told be to" LOL! Looking forward to your video next week on products. As I said that's where I am getting stumped

    Hey Susie. Love your channel, great info, you are so good in front of your camera. I'm going to purchase some of the products you have demonstrated to find out what my hair will do without sulfates/silicones/drying alcohols. Using my sulfate shampoo, I think I've removed all the buildup. Used no conditioner, don't have any without the cones yet. I have white hair, so right now it's super dry and so lackluster. I use Aveda Dry Remedy oil for conditioning every time I wet my hair. That's the only thing to keep it from feeling like straw and I can coax some waves/curls. Maybe it's the sulfates striping it. I was a brunette, started losing my color in my early 20's (four decades ago). Anyway, I've got to figure out what's frying it. Been a struggle for many years. Never even thought about the CGM. Gonna give it a try. Appreciate your videos. ❤️🙏🏼❤️from the very hot, humid Deep South USA y'all.

    I love Shea Moisture Products! I use the curl enhancing smoothie. My hair is shoulder length. When my hair is dripping wet I apply a quarter sized amount and then wrap my hair in my Turbie Towel. I let my hair dry for about 5-10 minutes then apply about 3 pea sized amounts, with wet hands. I apply the pea sized amounts to my ends. One pea sized amount to the back of my head and each side of my head. My ends love the moisture it delivers. I am high porosity.

      Curly Susie I seen many people comment that The Curl Enhancing Smoothie is heavy and you mentioned that you had trouble in the past. Lol, I have applied way too much before and it can be heavy. When I apply the majority of the product to dripping wet hair, the water thins out the product.

    I can relate to being a wash and go kind of gal👍🏻 While it’s still cool weather in NY, I need to diffuse my hair before I go to work. Don’t usually do this for more than 10 minutes. First I air dry with products applied to wet hair for about 30-45 minutes. After I diffuse, my hair is probably about 60-70% dry. My hair takes HOURS to dry! Not sure about porosity. Have you tried Curlsmith brand? They’re from the 🇬🇧 but available on their site and Ulta online. Liked their Oil in Cream and Soufflé, but not the Cowash. That needs a conditioner with it for my dry hair.

    I appreciate the videos where you use a diffuser. I tried the air dry method, but after three hours, my hair was still damp at the scalp. I do like the gel cast and I have noticed less frizz, despite living in Hawaii.
    I use Ouidad products (cleansing oil, deep conditioner, CC Gel) but have been considering exploring Monat products. But I may revisit the Bioterra and Shea Moisture.
    What is your opinion on Monat?
    (I should state I have thyroid issues, and Monat helps with the hair loss from that)

      Thank you Donna! I will have to try these products. If the products are working really well for you, why mess with it?? I’m the same, I found products I love & I keep trying new things and going back. My problem now is that I can’t find a conditioner that I like as much as the one I started with... but it has mineral oil in it so I’m on the hunt. So much trial & error. Fun though :)

    Hi Susie! Love you’re videos and I, like you, are a wash and go type of curly girl. Simplicity is key!! I have to say I like your results more when you follow your normal routine as opposed to this smasters technique. Not that the results from this video looked terrible but your normal routine results I like the best. Anyways, thanks for all you do for us curlies!

    I keep thinking I have your hair but then I realized it's not quite exactly the same texture and porosity.. Lol I have total hair admiration. going to try this technique. I'm really struggling with the back of my head and getting it to lay well. How do you do all of your product applications with your head forward and not have the back curls clump with the front curls funny and then leave weird spots on the back of your head? I have tried so many different things and I'm still not getting the back done well. If I style my hair with all of my hair leaning back or side to side then it ends up flat with no volume.

      @@CurlySusie okay, ver old comment, but that's so funny. I'm from Texas and I didn't think I had an accent either, or at least compared to most Texans. I was on a subway in Manhattan with my Brooklyn friend I was visiting and she made some comment about my accent. I was surprised, and told her I didn't think I really had an accent and the people on the subway around us laughed at me! It's one of my favorite stories from that vacation.

    Hi, new to the curly girl method and I've really enjoyed your videos. Like you, I am on the go and have a tendency to go out with wet hair! lol. Just bought Garnier Fructis Pure Clean Conditioner and the gel that goes with it. Haven't tried it yet though because I'm working through some other products (have bought sulfate free shampoo and what not but only recently stopped using it daily). Would love if you would do reviews on drugstore brands cuz I'm also cheap and don't want to spend a fortune on everything LOL. anyways, love you!

    Your hair looks great!! So, you didn’t scrunch in the Smoothie at all after praying it in? Whenever I do Smasters I scrunch whatever I’m putting in, but it’s usually a hard-hold Gel. I’ve never thought of putting the Smoothie in, I just may have to try that! Thanks!!

    • @CurlySusie
      @CurlySusie  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jodi, Now that you mention it, I probably scrunched it a bit as I diffused it, but not before hand, does that make sense? I've never used a hard hold gel in my life, what do you recommend that I try??

    • @jodipelletier9272
      @jodipelletier9272 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I swear by Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee. It’s the only gel I can get a cast with. It’s a little pricey, like $16, but I’m only putting it over the “regular” gel, and I’m diluting it as well. Others swear by LA Looks, the Sports one that’s blue. Thanks again!!

      That sounds like a good idea. My hair takes AGES to air dry and it is still rather cold outside in the mornings when I leave the house. So having at least 50% dry hair without spending too much time on it sounds good to me. Will try that.

    • @CurlySusie
      @CurlySusie  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hair porosity has to do with the chemical makeup of your hair strands and also how flat or raised the cuticles are. People have all different porosities. Generally curly/frizzy hair is more porous and looks more dull. But there are so many levels. Chemical & heat damage can cause the cuticle to be more stiff/permanently raised. Does this make sense. I’m no scientist that’s for sure!

      @CurlySusie  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Veronica, thank you so much!! Hmmmm maybe try a deep conditioner once a week. Also, when you rinse your conditioner out in the shower, don’t rinse it out all the way. Are you using a hard hold gel??

    • @Veronica.Roni.V
      @Veronica.Roni.V 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curly Susie hi 😊 OK I will try that. I did do another wash last night I absolutely could not stand that rough, brittle feeling another day. This morning is was not like that. I think it was something called Mist-her right it's a refresh in the morning because I did not do that this morning and my hair feel a lot more normal today. I am using all deva curl products until I am in a routine and feel confident to branch out...lol I have twice used the Arc Angel gel that they have. I use it in the shower on really wet hair and do a few scrunches and then wrap in the micro fiber hair towels to dry for about 30 min. This is harder than I thought figuring what your hair likes and doesn't. I am not sure I have time to dedicate to all that but I am going to try. Thanks so very for helping me.

  • @lgamb
    @lgamb 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've used this technique and it works great, only I do the curl cream first and the gel last. I have also let it air dry after the rewetting and second product. That works for me too! Thanks for the Biotera recommendation my hair likes it a lot. Not crazy about the soapy scent though 😁
    Try Walgreens for the LA Sport Gel. That's where we get it in the States.

      Hi Samantha, My hair fell out a LOT after he was born, I actually had two bald patches right in my Widow's peak area. when he was around 8 months old, It all started to grow back & now my hair is back to normal. I can notice that I have short hairs in those areas but they blend in now. Its due to hormonal changes, just give it time :)

      Hi. I have the same problem but due to abortion. Went to my dermatologist just today. He gave me zinc, calcium and biotin supplements along with a multivitamin. He prescribed me a serum to apply on scalp. I am also required to eat nuts like almonds and walnuts and have milk, spinach, pomegranate and beetroot in my daily diet. I hope you can get some help with this info. I would recommend to consult a dermatologist.
