Great video to show a lot of the important steps. I'll be replacing shocks soon on our H1 and this video was a great view of the critical components involved.
Very nice instructional video! I've never done a suspension lift on the humvees but I have done a body lift so this video was very informative! The body lift is quite an extensive process also. We had to re do the brackets for the fuel tank as after installing the body lift the fuel tank sat too low and we also had to extend the D ring's on the airlift mounts by the hood so they sat right and extended up above the hood properly. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your comment Tyson, I have a question for you if you don't mind, did you do a 2'' body lift?so if you did, did you do any adjustment for the steering column, pedals , brake lines, wiring...Thank you
When you don't have the weight available to compress the spring use a chain hoist. You have to get creative to rig it properly, but I just used a 2 ton chain hoist to compress the springs on my HMMWV when the body, drive train, and majority of the chassis was taken apart and it worked beautifully. I went around the bottom of the control arm right at the ball joint with the dead hook, and the body hook went above the shock pivot and to the opposite frame rail. I used a manual chain hoist this time, but the last time I had to do something similar I used an electric 2 ton hoist and it was all to easy. Just be careful not matter what you are doing, stored energy in a spring can mame or kill you. Use a small chain through the frame and a few coils, if something let's go unexpectedly the chain will restrain the spring. Be careful out there.
I hear you. I'm putting a LX96 & 4L80E in my rig right now. I'm not personally, having a shop in Charlotte doing it. Still soaking up whatever info I can about the M998, I love it and wouldn't have anything else. Thanks for the informative vids.👍
Thanks for this video, I helped me to lift mine! Curious though, why didn't you use spring compressors? I did and it was pretty straightforward (two videos). I also took the sway bar loose, which I may have missed on this video. Thanks again!
Did I see a Georgia tag? I'm in Chattanooga and have a road legal Humvee that I've given a complete tear down cleaned and painted. Any wheeling trips I can get in on? Got two young boys who think that was big stuff
Always amazing videos, would you please share your 2'' body lift too, I need to know if you had to do any adjustment for the steering column, pedals , brake lines, wiring...Thank you
No adjustments for the body lift are needed except cutting the body about 2" (or body lift height) under the steering shaft where it comes through the body so the body can lift without hitting it, unbolt the drivers splash guard where it bolts to the brake reservoir, adjust the gas filler neck as needed (body lifts 2" and so does the gas tank". That's all I can remember doing. It's a really easy swap.
How's the ride? I know mine has very stiff springs for handling loads and the ride is a bit harsh. Now that those springs are more compressed, I would think that the ride would be even stiffer.
Love the video but have a couple of questions. When completed did you do an alignment? Also, I've seen a kit that includes what appear to be modified ball joints with hardware. My assumption is that they are needed to prevent rubbing or some other issue, any idea on that or have you had any fitment/clearance/alignment issues? Considering a lift on a civilian version and didn't know if this same set up will work. Thanks!
@@HNKYKONG I used to sell them for much less. However, supply has dried up for me. If you know of a place where I can get them cheaper I would love to learn about it.
Love the videos. Question, when working on the humvee are you mainly using 1/2 drive sockets and wrenches or 3/4? Need to see if I need to upgrade my impact sockets before taking delivery of mine.
I will note: there are 2 types of lift donuts. The one I used is the type with the retaining lip ring on the inside of the donut lift ring. The type used here with the outer lip is far easier to install then the inner lip. The inner lip lift ring keeps popping out during this process.
Yeah I bet the one with the retaining lip on the inside is tough. The ones Mike with @All_In_Metalworks makes were simple to install. Highly recommend them.
I dont understand why you wouldn’t put longer taller springs with longer travel at a 2inch rise. With full suspension rather than putting a 2 inch spacer with limited travel. Same or worse spring bounce. Go pro not a 200 2 inch spacer..... oh well....
I'm going to give all my parts an electrolysis bath and have them powder coated and under coated along with the chassis. 4 inch body lift for a cummins swap with a 4 inch suspension lift. Going to see if I can do a 10 lug adapter, run LMTV rims and 44x13R20 michelin xzl. Trying to find someone that can turn a Dana 80 rear housing into something I can swap in so I can add manual OX Lockers.
Are the spacers as bad as people say? I was told not to do the metal spacers but instead do a body lift but I have no way of adjusting my brush guard so the body lift would mess with my headlights.
Did you have to take off the sway bar and any of the steering pieces off the lower arm for the front 2 wheels? Doing this to my humvee this weekend. Many thanks for the video.
I don't have a power steering unit but it uses a factory GM steering box so it should be pretty easy to source or you can send yours to redhead steering gear and have it rebuilt.
Gotta admit I actually dcuked a copuple of times when you came around the corner to the shock/spring assembly. That's a lot of stored compressed energy there. end
How badly does that throw off the geometry? Back when I had a Jeep, I went with a cheap lift that basically did the same and the ride was horrible. I know there is a more expensive lift that says it doesn’t throw off the angles as much.
When you disconnect the upper ball joint on the portal it should drop down and the spring should pretty much fall out. You also have to make sure the shock is disconnected at the top to allow the droop.
I love the way you stick your hand between upper control arm and the spring with a shitty ratchet strap holding everything. You will be known as the "one handed man"!
This is unfortunately a terrible idea. You have 9 inches of total travel. 4.5 in each direction. You just killed 2 on droop. Add that those springs are rated for heavy loads. I bet this thing rides like a dump truck. With such a heavy spring you have almost no up travel. Why not just put 12 inch steel spacers in?
Only a psycho would lift a HMMWV it was designed for that tire size and the height is under the vehicle where it matters when you lift it you just crippled the stability of the vehicle I use mine on a Cattle Ranch and the ranch is pretty rough to travel over,

"Good Lord, if you can hear me, I want a humvee..."
In the works right now! Should have it in my driveway next weekend!!
That spring is man killer! A few tools, big job! Nice....
i love the life insurance policy part that was the best !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gonna have a '94 sitting in my drive next weekend!! Can't wait!!!!!!

You should give us an update on how it rides after this compared to before the lift
I will get that posted as soon as it's back on the road

$500 for the 12k shocks?

Dope vid! Crazy I watch all the way through. I really want t get a X Mil humvv and lift it to.
If you posted how it rode once complete I missed it. How did it ride compared to before the spring spacer?

Feed that impact gun. 1/2” hose with high flow fittings. You’ll be surprised

Why not just replace the brackets, and bolts with new?
where is the video on the humvee 2in body lift?
Verry nice woork best Greatings from Germany

No you don't but it would help. I removed my sway bar all together.
@@LSXHumvee completed mine successfully and still have all my teeth! Many thanks for your video was very helpful.
I made the mistake of putting the heavy springs in my 4 man soft top it is way too much spring the ride is so rough.
Nice work- great info. Subbed.
Thanks!
As always another awesome video. Subscribed..
Good job! I know that wasn’t as East as you made it seem.
Hello, maybe know anything use the Humvee suspension in other car, like Ford f150 or other car
You could have went to a metal shop and got some steel to lengthen that bracket so you don't lose 2 of your 4"'s of travel
Hey, I know this is a video but great work!! I have a question would you have a power steering gearbox you would sell me?? Thanks

They are up a few bucks. $500 now
Those aren't ratchet straps!!! They are death slings!! You need BIGGER STRAPS without metal hooks on the ends!!!!!
With a 2" body life AND a 2" suspension lift, does that give you a total 4" lift?
Awesome thanks
life insurance policy lol
Excelente video🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻👍
How much bigger can you go with the tires size ?
I'm on 42s now and I could fit 44's height wise but the width is about maxed out.
why wouldn't you just mount it then tighten the nut?
Also, let me know if you want to paint your truck
A spring compressor won't work?
Definitely won't fit...
life insurance :D
Any one else have the problem that when the lower arm is down the spring is still tight?
When you disconnect the upper ball joint on the portal it should drop down and the spring should pretty much fall out. You also have to make sure the shock is disconnected at the top to allow the droop.
What was the brand of the spacers and shocks?
The shocks are factory 12K AM General. The spacers were built by @All_In_Metalworks - information for both are in the description of the video
Price on his website is $500 for the shocks 😬😬😬
I love the way you stick your hand between upper control arm and the spring with a shitty ratchet strap holding everything. You will be known as the "one handed man"!
