6 Volt VW Beetle Generator Polarization

This is the generator from my 1965 VW beetle. It is 6 volts and has not run since 1989. My generator has been taken apart a few times and I don't have any photo's show how the coil wires were run inside. For some reason the generator was running backwards when trying to polarize it. When I switched the field coil wire leads around the generator started polarizing in the right direction. Once I get a new battery I'll be able to run the engine at the correct rpm and see how much volts come out.
