  • Just picked up another 4runner and finally got it on the trail for a shakedown. Rear locker (detroit) was acting up a bit, but this thing rocks! Almost makes me not want to chop it up. Jacob in his Bronco tagging along.

I just got an 80 pickup with the solid axle in front and past owner already did work on the 4 link suspension in front. But I just need to put an engine in it.
Do you think I should put the 22r in it?
I was also thinking of chopping it up and doing the Dom tube cage but I really like how the truck looks. So I probably won’t chop it up.

Hey Gabriel, Sounds like a solid platform. For crawling the 22r series is a solid motor, but is a bit underpowered if you plan to be ripping around town or highways. I can comfortable do about 50mph ripping around. Expect steep grades to be slow going. Also would suggest going 22re, fuel injected. Carb will run into starvation issues at steep inclines. Go internal cage, you can squeeze one in there without chopping things up.
