Start from people around you! See how you could improve the process of a club you're in, a volunteer organization, a part-time job or even family/local businesses that you're familiar with. Try to identify some pain points first, and suggest ways you could help. Another key skill to have is the ability to identify these things!

As you gain more work experience and real-life projects and skills, your degree will actually matter less. Focus on the things that will make you stand out and continue to work on areas that you're not as confident in.

How do you gain experience if you're applying for an entry level job? I have my bachelor's in applied math and I'm studying for the exams, but I'm coming from a different field. I have been a math teacher/tutor, I also managed a restaurant. So I have 10+ years of working experience, just not anything related to the field.

This is a question on SO many people's minds right now! I don't think AI is going to completely replace people - but I do think it'll change which tasks people do day-to-day in the actuarial field. Lower level tasks might get delegated to AI, while humans work on the more advanced stuff. But even if AI did take over, I think actuaries would be in a pretty good spot! I believe you'd have to take the exams from the IAI (Institute of Actuaries of India) or IFoA (The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries) and then get exemptions for the SOA exams later. But I'd recommend checking with your local actuarial society to be sure, since I'm not an expert on that!
