Shelby judging by your thumbnail photo, you have sexy arms; I would absolutely love to see a photo of you wearing a pair of disposable shoulder-length examination gloves
Lots of people talk about Robert DeNiro's wardrobe in this movie, but Sharon Stone's is INCREDIBLE. When he's describing how she operates as a hustler, every outfit is A+, especially that orange and white striped dress. Wow wow wow!
The narration style is not because of the director, it's because of the writer, Nicholas Pileggi. He's the one who interviewed all the surviving mobsters and wrote the books the movies are based on. The reason there's so much narration is because most of the content is quotes from the mobsters.
This is yet another film that a connected guy was involved with, Frank Cullotta who was a part of the Chicago outfit and was also a part of the hole in the wall gang served as a technical consultant. Sadly he passed away last year from complications from COVID.
First off, I like you and your reactions. I’m am also a mob enthusiast and have read extensively about the history. You mentioned the old lady being Tommy’s mom in Goodfellas. Both people in that scene are Scorsese’s parents. The dad was also in Goodfella’s. He was the guy thinly slicing the garlic with a razor blade in prison. They are both in a lot of his movies. I am also originally from Indiana, Richmond.
Iam sorry but the guy in goodfellas who indeed cut the garlic with a razor his real name is Paul Sorvino and he didnt had a role in the movie Casino. and he is not the father of Scorsese the guy you mean in the film scene indeeds looks like Paul Sorvino tho. You say that you are a mob enthusiast i have a question for you. Do you think when the mobsters of the Vario crew where put behind bars that prison was like a hotel for them ?
That's not Charles Scorsese in "Casino"; he wasn't in "Casino." And in "Goodfellas," Paulie was slicing the garlic; Charles Scorsese was Vinnie, who was in charge of the tomato sauce. He's the one who says "Good, but you gotta have the pork. That's the flavor." Good lord, I went to college in Richmond, Indiana.
One major difference between Nicky and Tommy: Nicky was a made guy and Tommy wasn't. And there was nothing we could do about it. We just had to take it.
I love the long tracking shots done in these movies, it really adds to the immersion, after a while you feel like everything happening in each scene is actually happening. The amount of planning and rehearsals they would have had to of done to perfect these shots must of been staggering.
I absolutely love this movie for these reasons. 1. A+ Actors. Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, James Woods, Don Rickles, Frank Vincent and others. 2. I love mob movies that are based on a true story. 3. I think if someone is gonna make a mob movie. Then it definitely needs to be made right. What I mean is the big deal activities have to be in the movie. What I have researched along with my 20+ years of studying this profession. Casino is highly accurate on what happened in those days...
The single camera, long shot, no dialogue, tilted cams , was a style invented by Hitchcock. Scorcese does it pretty well, but the modern master is Brian DePalma. Checkout the CIA break in scene in the first, mission impossible. And 2 other great movies, Body Double, and the first true Hannibal Lector movie, dressed to Kill.
You're my favorite movie reactors I've found thus far!!! Great job, good opinions without too much "wait, what?" "Who was that?" Argggh, if only I'd listened!"
Joe Pesci role in this movie actually based on real las vegas mobster named ''Anthony Spilotro'' Alot of things in this movie are based on real events just like goodfelles. In goodfellas Joe played a charcter name Tommy in fact that name was authentic because the real mob guy's name was Tommy desimone. And those guys in reality were as crazy maybe even more then Jou Pesci played them. Jou Pesci by the we is a real good mob actor thats because he greew up in a mob neighborhood.
The biggest thing I think some people don't realize is frank Vincent (who played billy bats in Goodfellas and got killed cause of pesci and their altercation) is the one who beats pesci and his brother... Coincidentally with a bat
I think the Mythbusters episode used WAY too much dynamite to try to disprove this myth. Dynamite doesn't grow on trees. You can find pictures of the real car online (post explosion). Based on the damage, it looks like the dynamite (or whatever was used) was in the trunk or possibly a wheel well.
It’s been mentioned but History Buffs did a video on true story of this film and one thing that stood out was how Rosenthal was actually a really bad husband, who was known to be possessive, violent and cheat on his wife. He also was most likely a government informant. Do whatever you want with this information.
since youre on a joe pesci binge might as well watch with honors. Its a college movie, hes not typecasted as a mob guy, role is a breath of fresh air for him.
They Really did Her Wrong She had a Daughter with Lester Diamond (Lenny Marmour) that wasn’t mentioned in the film and he was her high school sweetheart and first love and not her Pimp and her relationship with Ace was much less one sided then it’s portrayed in the movie and was more of a Business Transaction to her
Ace I think was an associate to the mob so he wasn’t really in the mob he just had mob ties and worked for them but Nicky was in the mob and he was part of it and nicks job was to watch and protect ace from other gangster family’s from coming in and taking over or killing ace…so Nicky saying it was only possible for ace to be where he was makes sense since ace would’ve probably been taken out or been approached by other gangster family’s to give them a cut of the casino…so Nicky made all that possible under the orders of the higher ups and Ace can’t go over Nickys head because he’s under him…but ace has full control at the casino and all that which made this power struggle where Nicky couldn’t interfere with the “golden goose” and his work which probably pissed him off lol
The metal plate was only on that model of car for one year. Rosenthal's car was that year. Google the pics of Rosenthal's car, it was bo small bomb. It damaged his vision, the reason for the giant tinted eyeglasses in the final scene.
I believe the kind of tilting, off kilter camera perspective described about 23 minutes in is commonly called a "Dutch Angle" in cinematography. The derivation of the term I do not know.
Joe Pesci brilliant in this like the real life Tony Spillotro (Nicky Santoro) height wise etc. In 'Goodfella's' I would like to have seen what John Goodman could have done as Tommy Di Simone. Tommy was actually over six feet tall in real life.
I feel the problem with Ginger is that she is based on a woman who did have this very messy relationship with the man that Ace Rothstein is based on, but this real guy, Lefty Rosenthal, was a cheater, a petty tyrant and regularly beat her up. In the movie all of that is left out and Ace Rothstein is a mostly decent guy, while her reaction to him remains unchanged. I do like this movie but I do feel this makes her a quite incomprehensible character... Having said that Sharon Stone's acting was top notch.
Reactors react. That's why they're called reactors, not reviewers. If they don't jump in and edit the movie, they get flagged by TH-cam and the movie taken down.
They still have cameras (the eye in the sky) all over Vegas Casinos and they are quite good at catching cheaters. Did you ever watch the movie "Rain Man".
Of course, the Tangiers is a fictitious name for the casino. The real name would have been the Stardust. It's long gone. By the way, the old woman is actually the director's mother. She has since passed away.
Casino! wOw! My guys. I love those Italians. Cool film. Nice reaction, (kinda), darling this is an American Organized Crime picture. Ya don't have to keep tellin us bout how ya don't approve of this, or that. Gotta toughen up a little bit. Need to stop with the morale high-ground talks. Okay? okay.. Thank you. Check ya on the next Go with God. Bless you and yours. Peace. Later.
What is it with reactors being unable to record when they're _not_ hungry? Like, is it _that_ difficult to arrange? Are some ppl just constantly hungry, or unable to resist an urge for a bit? Am I just built different? Also, if you must take a meal break, is it really not possible to eat off camera and resume recording afterwards? It usually doesn't take me more than a few mins to eat a meal when I'm alone. Again, am I the weird one?
Unfortunately my original video of this commentary/reaction got blocked after posting, so I have reuploaded this modified version.
As if this movie hadn't already been a pain to edit! :(
:(
One of my favorite movies
Love your reviews dear, good choice for films.
Shelby judging by your thumbnail photo, you have sexy arms; I would absolutely love to see a photo of you wearing a pair of disposable shoulder-length examination gloves
The old lady in Kansas City that also played Tommy's mom in Goodfellas is Martin Scorsese's mother
Lots of people talk about Robert DeNiro's wardrobe in this movie, but Sharon Stone's is INCREDIBLE. When he's describing how she operates as a hustler, every outfit is A+, especially that orange and white striped dress. Wow wow wow!
Surprised this channel isn't bigger. You let the scenes play out but your reactions and grasp of the films is top notch. 👍
I love it when movies have narration. It allows them to give the movie more depth. I hope she reacts to the Irishman.
Sharon Stone is so great in this film.
The narration style is not because of the director, it's because of the writer, Nicholas Pileggi. He's the one who interviewed all the surviving mobsters and wrote the books the movies are based on. The reason there's so much narration is because most of the content is quotes from the mobsters.
"Her manstress if you will." I freakin' love it. :-)
This is yet another film that a connected guy was involved with, Frank Cullotta who was a part of the Chicago outfit and was also a part of the hole in the wall gang served as a technical consultant. Sadly he passed away last year from complications from COVID.

Sup twin We have the same picture
I highly recommend the history buff videos of this and Goodfellas. It gives a lot of insight into the people that these movies were based on.

Nicky used a pen, John Wick uses a pencil. That would be an interesting face-off. Ink verses lead.
Joker used pen, pencil and scissors
The biggest thing I think some people don't realize is frank Vincent (who played billy bats in Goodfellas and got killed cause of pesci and their altercation) is the one who beats pesci and his brother... Coincidentally with a bat
20 years...
The old lady who played Tommy's mum in Goodfellas and is in the grocery store in Casino was director Martin Scorcese's real mother.
The old woman who plays mama is Martin Scorcese's mama. She played lots of mamas in his movies.
Fun fact: Rosenthal's lawyer's wife is the current Mayor of Las Vegas.
I meant to mention that now he openly speaks about his life in the mafia.
Could have sworn I watched you react to this already.... good to know I'm not losing it.
I have to react to Casino, react to Casino. Tommy Two-Times.
Sharon Stone was nominated for Best Actress for this film.
25:08 Sad that girl didn't continue acting, she was great in her little role. :)
It’s been mentioned but History Buffs did a video on true story of this film and one thing that stood out was how Rosenthal was actually a really bad husband, who was known to be possessive, violent and cheat on his wife. He also was most likely a government informant. Do whatever you want with this information.
If you haven't already, you should definitely check out Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. Both are great non-mob Scorsese movies.
since youre on a joe pesci binge might as well watch with honors. Its a college movie, hes not typecasted as a mob guy, role is a breath of fresh air for him.
Was like Deja vu lol
04:44 As George Carlin would say: "Joe Pesci looks like a guy that can get sh*t done"
They Really did Her Wrong She had a Daughter with Lester Diamond (Lenny Marmour) that wasn’t mentioned in the film and he was her high school sweetheart and first love and not her Pimp and her relationship with Ace was much less one sided then it’s portrayed in the movie and was more of a Business Transaction to her
Plus Ace was a massive control freak who cheated on her left right and center. They were all trash but she was nowhere near the worst.
Tommy's Mom in Goodfellas is really Martin Scorceses real Mother
Joe Pesci plays the best pyschopatic gangster , in goodfellas he was the best in Casino same thing , awesome movies, glad you enjoyed them :3
Those tilted camera angles are called Dutch angles, usually used to heighten tension
Watch this movie quickly I thought oh no does she know it’s 3 hours
Then immediately it’s another 3 hour movie 😂

@10:48 The desert gets very cold at night during winter.
I believe the kind of tilting, off kilter camera perspective described about 23 minutes in is commonly called a "Dutch Angle" in cinematography. The derivation of the term I do not know.
my favorite type of movies
Boondock Saints is a different type of movie (not mafia), but has some mob elements….it’s bad ass At least read the movie’s description
That mom in both good fellas and casino is actually Martin Scorsese's mom.
This movie is a lot more graphically violent than Goodfellas though.
AS I TOLD YOU, YOU NEVER CROSS THE MOB OR DISRESPECT THEM. IF YOU DO, EXPECT TO PAY THE CONSEQUENCES!
After all these mob movies, you should react to "Jane Austen's Mafia!" xD
Meanwhile, in a parallel world, Amber Heard climbs out of a cookie cutter in 1986, the cutter the colour of dead wildflowers ...
Joe Pesci brilliant in this like the real life Tony Spillotro (Nicky Santoro) height wise etc.
In 'Goodfella's' I would like to have seen what John Goodman could have done as Tommy Di Simone. Tommy was actually over six feet tall in real life.
Good editing, Shelby. 💯
Wish Ray Liotta was in this movie
Ray Liotta was upset he wasn't asked to star in The Irishman
I feel the problem with Ginger is that she is based on a woman who did have this very messy relationship with the man that Ace Rothstein is based on, but this real guy, Lefty Rosenthal, was a cheater, a petty tyrant and regularly beat her up. When you’re doing a reaction try not to pause the movie ever it kind of takes you out a little bit 💯
Reactors react. That's why they're called reactors, not reviewers. If they don't jump in and edit the movie, they get flagged by TH-cam and the movie taken down.
Well she talks alot and doesn’t wanna miss anything I guess
They still have cameras (the eye in the sky) all over Vegas Casinos and they are quite good at catching cheaters. Did you ever watch the movie "Rain Man".
My favorite role by Pesci and DeNiro
21:07 that's Martin Scorsese's mother, much the same in Goodfellas etc.
I'm watching this movie right now
to be fair, he didn't *kill* the guy with the pen, you can hear him whimpering on the floor (in fact Nicky is taunting him for it)
Good reaction great editing and review.
Thank you so much 😁
You seem to be unaware, but Goodfellas and Casino have the same screenwriter - Nicholas Pileggi.
These mob movies always make me hungry.
Sideways view is called a Dutch tilt
Of course, the Tangiers is a fictitious name for the casino. The real name would have been the Stardust. It's long gone. By the way, the old woman is actually the director's mother. She has since passed away.
I just love seeing your reactions to these mob movies sweetheart
Scorcese clearly loves the Rolling Stones
NOBODYS ARE PEOPLE, TOO!
Tommy's mom from goodfellas is Martin Scorsese's real mom
Carlito's Way (1993) Al Pacino
Tommy's Mom in Goodfellas is Martin Scorsese mother in real life
21:08: That's actually Martin Scorsese's mother.
Pesci had ties to actual mob family while growing up..fr fr
Side view angle I believe they call it “Dutch Angle”
33:08 MAN-stress...🤣
21:02 that’s Martin Scorsese’s actual mother irl
You know, towards the end of his life, I exchanged a few emails with the real life Henry Hill.
Irishman is a must watch
Nicky in real life was Anthony Spilotro. Pesci nailed his look and mannerisms.
Some of those bodies are in Lake Mean read stories about it
To me there is an unofficial trilogy
Goodfellas
Casino
And
The Irishman
Go get ya shine box!!
pesci with billy bats on the bench
Our host looks like Malin Ackerman...
oh that's such a compliment thanks!
That's actually Martin Scorsese's Mother in real life
the guy with the cattle prod? Dick Warlock, Michael Myers in Halloween II.
Oh, Joe Pesci's more vicious in this movie than he was in Goodfellas.
Pesci plays the same kind of character in Scorsese's movies, otherwise, he's played plenty of other kinds of roles!
Please do reaction to A Bronx Tale.
The Departed is a good movie
Casino! wOw! My guys. I love those Italians. Cool film. Nice reaction, (kinda), darling this is an American Organized Crime picture. Ya don't have to keep tellin us bout how ya don't approve of this, or that. Gotta toughen up a little bit. Need to stop with the morale high-ground talks. Okay? okay.. Thank you. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 legendary
The last comment I made, that video, look up his channel. He used to be a made guy.
What is it with reactors being unable to record when they're _not_ hungry? Like, is it _that_ difficult to arrange? Are some ppl just constantly hungry, or unable to resist an urge for a bit? 12:19 - lol
So Shelby your saying when Joe Pecsi was stealing stuff in Vegas it wasn't earned? 😆
Ace was the biggest simp in the history of mankind.
Joe pesci played a Real guys name was Tony spilotro
I guess someone has already told you but you’re very like Diane Kruger
Wow, as weird as it may sound I wish more reactors ate during their viewings. It's natural!!! Who doesn't eat/drink watching movies??
Right!?
Pretty eyeshadow 👍

Rothstein loving but CONTROLLING
