    Man, I have a frighteningly close story to Joe's.
    I grew up in an extremist religious environment which made we swear off any semblance of faith as a child.
    Over time, I became less hostile to religion, and began to see its benefits and philosophy.
    As I learned more, I began to want it, though of course, I did not believe. Though I openly spoke highly of Jesus and his philosophy. (My family jokingly referred to me as a Messianic Atheist).
    And then, I had a religious experience almost 2 months ago, and finally got the faith I wanted (granted I was in complete shock for a week, and didn't mention it at all for that duration, during which I actually read the Bible instead of just learning about it through videos and theologians).
    And then the people who knew me as a hardline atheist were shocked, and some converted or had their faith strengethened as a result of my testimony. I think I was meant to lose faith early in my life so that the shock factor for those around me would be harder, and because of how I came to know about christianity, I was able to answer their theological questions with a better degree of accuracy and logic than woud've otherwise been offered. He really does plan everything out.

      My life is very similar except I grew up in a christian home and have never been hostile toward religion. I ignored what I knew about God for years. The way the world operates with seemingly unfairness everywhere had me doubting God's existence. I still doubt God but I'm looking to find meaning and purpose in life and that Christianity might be the answer.
      You said you were meant to lose the faith then regain it? Sounds a lot like God chooses people to save no? I know the bible says we have freewill but predestination is what it looks like God does. He knows the beginning to the end so it seems as I can't go against his plan with my freewill right? Also people grow up believing what they are taught usually so it seems like anyone who doesn't grow up in a christian home is far more likely to be damned to hell. And many people don't have access to the bible. Anyway I'd be curious on what you think. Thanks for reading.

    After studying childhood psychology (I'm not a professional), it just amazed me how much certain things from your childhood can shape who you become as an adult. I had to learn how to show emotions. Every girl I dated when I was younger told me that I was like a robot. My friends called me Mr. Spock. But I'm not on the spectrum. When I was a child, my punishment was that I had to pull my pants down (bare ass) lay over the couch, and I would get beat with a leather belt. But I wasn't allowed to flinch, or cry. If I cried, then I would continue getting beat. I honestly think that one thing triggered something in my brain. Never show weakness, never show emotions, and the world can be a cruel place. I used to look at drug addicts and prostitutes like they were just scum. But in reality, they probably just had really messed up childhoods. Far worse than myself. I'm not so quick to judge others now.

    • @voltaicburst4279
      @voltaicburst4279 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I preferred the belt to getting my stuff taken away any day. My dad would make me eat red hot chillies if I didn’t eat my dinner, but now I love spicy food and I know not to waste food.
      Another interesting thing, kids are like dogs in that they come with different temperaments. One dog gets a smack and thinks “oh I better not do that again” and another will think something like “why am I being hit? I don’t like the pain” and get emotional about it. And for humans who react like the latter, they tend to over correct because they’re too stimulated by whatever it was that caused them pain.

      It sounds like theory but it's real and very practical
      "But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father."

    This is a sobering reminder of how important it is to live out our Faith and honor God in our interactions with others. We never know what kind of chain reaction our actions will cause. Joe was already being drawn to God, and his Catholic teachers had the opportunity to be a light in Joe’s life and bring him closer to Christ. Instead, the unkindness he experienced was a factor in pushing him away and being a vocal critic.
    Fast forward several years, now having the largest podcast in the world, Joe Rogan’s influence is massive. Many take his views very seriously, and there’s no telling how many people have disregarded Christianity because of his views.

    I got lucky. I attended a Christian school for two of my school years. 8th grade and 9th grade. That school was the best time I ever had in school in my entire life. Every teacher was very loving and genuinely cared about each and every student. At public school beforehand I was failing math and struggled. In those two years in Christian school my mathematical level jumped to 11th grade level. Then my parents filed bankruptcy in 2004 and put me back in public school. My education degraded, I became angry and depressed, and developed anxiety issues. I barely graduated high school and completely failed my SAT's. I ended up not being able to make it into a traditional college and instead attended a tech college, and went into $90,000 in student loan debt, in which I am still trapped in. It is very interesting how your entire life can drastically change based on the school you attended as a kid

    My mom asked my dad for a divorce on the way to church when I was in 4th grade. My mom was emotionally volatile and starved for affection and my dad was emotionally unavailable and finding every excuse to be away working. So yeah, it was coming sooner or later. For the next few years, the pattern was to spend one Sunday visiting a new church with her (to which my brother and I were forbidden to talk about why we were there) and the next Sunday going back to my original church with my dad (feeling ashamed as EVERYONE knew what was going on but was still forbidden to talk about it). The hypocrisy between my parents telling my brother and I to not fight because that's what Jesus would do while simultaneously fighting so much between each other that they couldn't be in the same building (house or church) was incredibly confusing and infuriating. I really relate to Paul when he says "by the grace of God I am what I am". Stories like Joe's always hit home with me.

Some of the lay teachers got their jollies through cruelty and corporeal punishment. However, even at a young age, I knew those people didn't represent God or his son. I've often wondered how many young children's souls like Joe Rogan's were crushed by people who were supposed to represent a merciful, kind and loving God but were bullies and tyrrants instead. Jordan Peterson has softened Rogan’s stance in regard to the utility of Christianity, but I’m still not sure that he’s that much closer to thinking it’s true. When he talked to Stephen Meyer there was a moment when Meyer was talking about what I think he called his metaphysical anxiety as an adolescent and when Rogan asked why, Meyer said that he wanted to know what’s true, and Rogan responded with just “yeah” but with a tone as if to say “that’s pretty bold and arrogant to think you searched and found the truth and can tell everyone about it.” There were other moments where it was obvious that he was holding back some hostility when Meyer was talking just because he didn’t want to offend him.
    One thing C.S. Lewis has Screwtape saying in the Screwtape Letters that has always stuck with me is that hell’s greatest work would be someone who, while denying the existence of God, worships what he vaguely calls forces; what he calls a “materialist magician.” Listening to Rogan give his views that sound close to some kind of panpsychism while he talks about hallucinogenic drugs always reminds me of that part of the Screwtape Letters.

    For me, it's easy to answer all the questions from Joe about Christianity. And it should be really easy, if we really understand the teaching, the logic and the evidence in the Bible.
    But it's not just about answering his questions. Because whatever happened to Joe in his past, it's not his fault. He was a kid, he didn't have much knowledge and understanding about Christianity, and nobody who capable enough to teach him befofe. And God will only judge men by their knowledge.
    The real problem is with the Catholic church, because the Catholic Church is giving the most contributions of resulting people to leave Christianity. And the worst thing, most so-called "Christians" (all kind of churches) they don't do exactly what the Bible has taught. They did sermons, they pray every week, just as RITUALS, no real action in their life and community. When we should know that Jesus hate rituals. That's why Jesus in the Bible didn't join the Sabbath and chose to serve people in the Bethesda pool.
    So, Catholics including all kind of churces should change their habits from rituals, to more focus on serving people like Bible has teaches, serving community, and serving all people in the whole country.
    And the most important thing, the Catholic church and Protestant church, should be more active in reaching people who have left Christianity or have never learned Christianity. Because that's what Jesus has ordered to ALL his followers: To preach the words to all creations, and to be the light in the dark. Without doing this, there will be more and more and thousands another Joe, and we will keep answering the same questions, over, over and over again.

    • @NDCCMTX
      @NDCCMTX ปีที่แล้ว

      I could NOT agree with you more! We believers are called to be the _hands and feet_ of Christ, not just the mouthpiece! We are to be doers of the word, not just hearers.
      One of the biggest problems with the modern church is that most Christians see Christianity as a dead religion. They'll show up on Sunday looking and acting their best, but then spend the next 22 hours and 6 days acting like they don't even know Jesus!!

    His is a pretty common story in regards to how he went away from the Truth of Christianity. His experiences at a very young age with vile individuals that happened to be in the Catholic Church (its sad but true that there have always been evil people in the church doing a lot of damage to others, and going against God) have turned him away from God (this is all the devil's work) and the fact that he didn't have anyone to show him and teach him about the Gospel and explain to him then that these mean people are not Christianity. All of these lead him astray. But you watch and see how God is truly great. He will use all of this to His purpose and for His glory, and also to ultimately bring more people to a knowledge of the truth and to being saved in Jesus by using Joe Rogan's eventual conversion for this. It's going to be great to see. Then in hindsight we will see that God turned the works of satan (in his using people to lead children away from Jesus instead of to Him) into a great example of conversion to the faith for his Glory and more conversions. God uses people that were his most staunch opponents for His glorious purpose. He did it famously in the Gospel with Paul, who did amazing works for Jesus, but used to be named Saul, a great persecutor of early Christians. God is truly great.

    He is absolutely 100 percent spot on about catholic school, I myself was born and raised in Ireland and my schooling was in the catholic school, and it was evil and nasty to say the least, I was very lucky that I wasn't sexually abused like so many others were, I was however violently abused and terrified by the teacher's to such an extent that I left school at age 14 and went to work on the Dublin docks, that was back in 1976 and it was motivated by my fear of those who were supposed to be my educators, eventually I fell completely away from the catholic faith and many years later I became a born again Christian by the grace of almighty God through jesus christ our Lord and saviour.
