    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    01:43 💡 Building a new home in a remote area without access to the grid can be extremely costly, with initial quotes ranging from £60,000 to £160,000 for connecting to the grid.
    03:42 ☀️ Off-grid systems, which include solar panels, advanced battery storage like lithium-iron phosphate, and inverters, can efficiently power a large home and minimize reliance on a generator.
    07:50 🔋 Lithium-ion phosphate batteries offer high cycle life and faster charge and discharge rates compared to lead-acid batteries, making them an ideal choice for renewable energy systems.
    09:21 🌧️ An LPG generator can serve as a backup for periods of high energy demand when solar generation is insufficient.
    13:54 📊 Continuous monitoring of the off-grid system's performance allows homeowners to optimize energy usage and understand their self-sufficiency, reducing the need for grid connection.

      This is great, just about to start a selfbuild project and planning to go off grid. Looking for contacts to obtain quotes.

    Thank you for including the cost of their system, such an important figure is far too often omitted

    Your story is exactly like ours. They wanted $60,000 dollars to connect us plus we had to clear a path 30 feet wide through our timber. Going off grid was only $28,000.

    Victron is the Ferari in the Solar world,that is my experience from the days where Victron started also in Off-Shore. Myself i build a Solar Island System and Vcitron is nearby when i need hardware for customers.

    Great video. I'm in a predicament with a new build project. I've been quoted 40k to connect to the grid (3 phase). My barn has a large roof, so can take around 80+ panels. The off grid quote is approx 60k (around 60 panels). The off grid solution also needs an insurance policy which is the generator. LPG or Diesel. (Not exactly green). The on grid quote is 43k for a 21.12Kw system (48x 440w panels, 25KW Sigen Energy Controller and 48.36Kwh of battery storage). New builds also need a car charger.
    The 21.12kw system won't cover all my needs so at times I will be going to the grid. But I have the ability to sell back excess to the grid. The off grid won't ever enable me to reduce my initial financial outlay and will require me to have a ground array which I wanted to avoid. So whilst I love the off grid solution, I don't think we are quite there yet with the solar technology. I was quoted around 40k for the wind turbine which seems crazy.

    Fabulous, but I think a small wind turbine would have made a valuable addition in winter.

      It would have to reside pretty much in the middle of the field and not be so small. Wind turbines are great... but turbulent wind causes them nightmares

    £2600 lpg is still a lot of gas, consider the size of the property for 2 people? Would be nice to hear some stats on the Heat Pump performance and savings on carbon.

    So Essentially if they upsized their solar + battery setup by 15% they would eliminate their use of gas!?

      Yep. Although it's very difficult to completely 100% be off-grid with solar only. There are websites that can do the calculations for you but there is usually 2-3 weeks where you need a little help from a genset, especially in the UK.

    Hi
    I have built an offgrid property in the UK, I would like to know more about the generator.
    From my understanding the generator needs to be 1.5 times the max total of inverters.
    Unfortunately for me I have a total of 3 x 8kw inverters so I need a 36kw generator which I wanted in lpg as i have a bulk tank.
    Is it possible to have a chat and potentially getting you to look at my system to make improvements if possible.

      The southern areas of the UK don’t get much snow.

    I think most of your energy can come from chopping trees down and burning them as firefuel.
    Start a fire twice a fay, and use that for most of your needs.

    But I thought the inverter charger will get very hot if its not synchronised with a fronius for direct solar consumption. If the battery is full can the victron run off the solar power direct from the sunlight without touching the battery?

    • @bramcoteelectrical1088
      @bramcoteelectrical1088 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes dc coupling and if your loads match the solar irradiance

    • @donlatinohits
      @donlatinohits 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bramcoteelectrical1088 when you say match the irradiance, which means also if the loads are below the the sun production the mppt will somehow divert to the inverter as the battery is already full?

    • @bramcoteelectrical1088
      @bramcoteelectrical1088 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@donlatinohits kind of... if the loads are below the sun production the DC and ac will throttle back as long as you have set up the micro grid settings correctly on the fronious I didn't knew this when I first started out.
      The DC mmpt victron will also throttle back if battery is full.
      When battery is full and no or little loads
      = power come batteries
      When batteries are low state of charge and high amount of sun and have loads = irradiance (sunlight) will go to Dc victron to charge batteries (very efficient) and provide power to mains inverter (less efficient) and the AC coupled froniuos will make mains power to directly service your loads (best efficiency dc to ac and used straight away to power loads)
      Hope this helps
