*Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp: A Gateway to Wilderness and History*
Nestled in the southern foothills of the Kruger National Park, Berg-en-Dal (meaning "Mountain and Valley") is one of the park's most scenic and historically rich rest camps. Offering a stunning landscape that combines rugged mountains, bushveld, and riverine forest, Berg-en-Dal provides visitors with an immersive nature experience, making it a must-visit destination for those seeking both adventure and relaxation.
    What to Expect at Berg-en-Dal:
Berg-en-Dal is known for its breathtaking location along the Matjulu River, surrounded by granite hills and towering trees. It is the only camp in Kruger that lies in a mountainous area, providing a unique atmosphere compared to the park's more open plains. The camp is an excellent base for game drives, with the chance to see the Big Five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo) as well as other iconic wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, and various antelope species.
    Accommodation and Facilities:
The camp offers a variety of accommodations, from well-equipped bungalows to family cottages, making it suitable for all types of travelers. There is also a well-stocked camp shop, a restaurant with scenic views, and a swimming pool for those hot Kruger afternoons.
The camp is perfect for those who enjoy nature walks. There is a self-guided Rhino Trail, which provides insights into the flora, fauna, and cultural heritage of the area. A particularly special feature is the remnants of San rock art found in the nearby hills, offering a glimpse into the ancient history of the region.
    Wildlife and Birdwatching:
Berg-en-Dal is known for excellent rhino sightings. The area is one of the park's strongholds for both black and white rhino, making it a prime location for rhino enthusiasts. Additionally, leopard sightings are frequent in the region, especially along the Matjulu River.
For birdwatchers, the camp and surrounding areas are a haven for species such as the African Fish Eagle, Kingfishers, and the rare Saddle-billed Stork.
    Interesting and Lesser-Known Facts:
    1. Berg-en-Dal is the only camp in Kruger that showcases prehistoric San rock art nearby, making it a blend of wildlife and cultural history.
    2. The camp is also one of the most eco-friendly camps in Kruger, with solar-powered facilities and a strong focus on sustainability.
    3. The surrounding granite hills create natural hideouts for leopards, making it one of the best places to spot these elusive predators.
Whether you're embarking on a game drive or soaking up the tranquility of the camp, Berg-en-Dal offers a rich and unique Kruger experience.
