As a dealer it must be a priority to roll out inventory asap before prices drop even more. Dealers must be hurting big time. How many collectors are bailing out. I have never seen so many books for sale, some that would rarely come to market ! People expect to pay 10% less than last sale creating a vicious cycle that has prices dropping fast. That FF48 example is scary. Other big key have dropped in half as well... I don't know if the market will be as strong post recession and if there is a world crisis, comics won't be a priority even for avid colectors... It doesn't help that the MCU is bombing. Wakanda forever put you to slept.... Btw great video as always. Financial fridays please!

I knew Mikes Morales first appearance would drop. Bunch of weirdos were paying thousands dollars for a character whos comic has been canceled and relaunched at least 3 times.
The character has no real relevance in its actual source material. Which is comics. Then Marvel beat Miles like a dead horse with that What If comic series.

Peter Parker is spider-man. Always has been and always will be. Miles Morales is a flash in the pan. Just another one of the Spider-Man clones in this so-called Spider-Man universe. If you're going to buy a Spider-Man first appearance there's only one book to get and that's af15

Hi David, you make an intriguing remark about UF4: you say that the print run is 80.000, and so, for this comic to rise, you need 80.000 people willing to spend say 1.000 dollar on it. You are of course right: by holding on to one's copy of UF4, one IS choosing to spend 1.000 dollar on it.
But we are dealing here with highly imperfect markets (which is a main reason why I like the comics market so much!).
I would guess that for just about any comic, at any given time, most copies will continue be held by their owners and not brought to market. This can be for various reasons: some owners simply see their copy as part of their private collection; some are not aware of its value; some are holding on to it for longer-term speculation; some (probably many!) simply suffer from inertia - "I want to explore selling it, but ... I will do it next week.".
Then there are also the people who own more than one copy, for various reasons; investment, a reader copy and a pristine "show" copy; etcetera. These people reduce the number of people who are actually potentially active in the market for any given comic.
So for many comics, at any time, only a few thousand, a few hundred or even a few dozen willing and active buyers and sellers make the market. Or to put it another way, at any given time, very small numbers of willing and active buyers and sellers at and around the FMV - the tip of the comics world spear - decide the direction of the FMV for that comic.
The interesting question then may be what effect any price development may have on the big cloud of not-yet willing and active buyers and sellers. In how far will they become willing and active buyers or sellers when the price moves?
Just wildly speculating here, but I suspect that with modern comics that big cloud of not-yet willing and active buyers and sellers is usually way more active and open to buying and/ or selling when the FMV moves than with older comics.

The Akkadian Empire is often called the world’s first empire. The empire united Akkadian and Sumerian speakers under one rule and their civilization stretched across Mesopotamia, the Levant, and Anatolia (modern-day Iraq, Syria, and Turkey).
The Akkadians regularly traded with the nearby Indus Valley Civilization. The Sumerians and Akkadians had a surplus of agricultural products, which they traded for metal ores, timber, and building stone.
The people of the Akkadian Empire were skilled craftsman and made a number of beautifully carved seals and cast metal statues. One such statue depicts a writer’s room in which Todd McFarlane is brainstorming ideas for the Spawn movie script.

I really enjoy your insight. I sold a majority of my marvel comics last year around this time. Weird DC was hard to sell. 15 long boxes. A culmination of 35 years in collecting. Towards the end, I was giving away some of my stuff. All in All, 6 months of wheeling and dealing and shipping and packing. I still have comics I cherish but they are all independents. I narrowed it down to 3 short boxes.
Wishful thinking selling last year or maybe my kids were not interested in my hobby that led me to move on from chasing the FOMO comic. The End Game movie sold it for me literally. This might be the era where the collectors in the 90's has passed the torch to the new generation.
It seems the day has gone bye in doodling inside school notebooks our favorite superheroes to the advent of gamers and influencers or whatever # movement we are in.
I hope Marvel and DC audiences now doesn't forget what comic books really did for us 90's kids.
The right to be a super-hero in our own eyes and to those around us.

I only buy what I’m reading now and that’s it and that’s the problem now as well. Not enough people reading them anymore they weren’t meant to be investments. If I buy something new and it sucks I don’t buy it again. So true comic fans are still in control of popularity in a way. To many folks just buying up everything new as investors are creating higher print runs. And way to many graded books hopefully raw copies get popular again if these folks keep loosing money.

  • @JC-dg6vo

The whole Grizzly Adams look is very interesting. I think UF4 will hover around 2K in the coming years. I don't think the 4~5K range unless something crazy happens like half the books spontaneously combust...😵, Spawn 1...my LCS has a huge tightly packed long box of Spawn 1 to send in to CGC...all look like 9.8 with maybe some 9.9 in there. I would not buy this book even if Todd McFarlane announced that Spawn is now part of the MCU fighting alongside Moon Knight, Blade, Thor and others to right the wrongs of Kang! QQ, are the #'s for FF48 actual? I've seen higher paid prices on the many none reporting auctions like Comic Link, etc.. Don't get me wrong, if folks are letting them go for cheap(er) because their information if flawed...I am going to pick up more.

When is 80k copies considered a high print run? Back in the 90's,after the 8 mil+ copies of X-Men #1,it was pretty common that most books(from the big publishers) printed over 1 mil copies, then in the early 2000's,they dropped off to no more than 500k,or is my info incorrect?

    • @ComicBookInvestments
      @ComicBookInvestments  ปีที่แล้ว +3

It’s different though. Back in the day they would print 1mil copies of golden age comics. But most didn’t survive or got trashed. How many detective comics 27 are there? That probably had a print run of 500k. But only a handful exist today. The 1990s xmen yes. High print run. But that’s only $100 in 9.8. The problem is all the 80k uf4 are 9.4+. So it’s not like a 80s book that had 500k print run. But only maybe 5k are 9.4 plus

Also I was reading Namor can’t have solo MCU movies cause Universal owns Him which is weird I didn’t know that but do you see Namor books taking a huge drop because of this?
We Know how Terrible Universal has been with Hulk and I can’t see Universal dropping plans to make Another Fast and Furious project just to push out a Namor film movies kinda bring attention to the characters if we don’t see Namor again for another 5-6 years will everyone forget or lose interest in him
Cause best situation he shows up again in Fantastic Four or if Black Panther Gets a trilogy but I don’t see what more they can do Wakanda already beat him so we know he can’t beat Shuri even though Director Ryan said Namor was strong then Hulk & Thor 😂 💀

I do agree with you almost 100% of the time, that being said… I do have a feeling that Savage Tales #1 will be the “new groot” not too many out there! They made him extremely lovable and just like groot! If you look at Man Thing #1 it keeps going up, the MCU will keep using him and and just a few sales going down doesn’t mean that much.

tbh i think is a good time to grab some UF4 9.8 rit now w8 less than a yr the book will pop back up since the movie is going to comic out and we all know the marketing on that movie is going to be insane. that and Miles is currently the only mordern day post 2000 era superhero that has some staying power. (in comparison with other mordern supers like the young avengers miles is Tire 1 at least.

you are correct. The problem is comic book people don't understand they are the minority. UF4 sells to non comic book people. It's been quiet in terms of social media on animated movie news.
Sony's Spider-man animated movie is rated the highest comic book movie on rotten tomatoes amoung critics and regular audience. It won an academy award for best picture something that no MCU film has done.
What evidence comic book think the sequels will be bad?

The age group who cares about Miles cant afford a candy bar, not to mention uf4 has an ugly cover and Miles isnt the 1st Spidey, and high print run, and tons of high grade copies thanks to cgc. As soon as we see Miles on the big screen all these people who bought UF4 and dont care about Miles will try and cash in and the market will be sarurated and the price will bomb. No thanks!

Peter Parker = Spider-Man period. Wish the house of former ideas would get original once again and stop relying on the multiverse to make multiple characters of the original. It may be cool to some for a while but there’s no staying power. Sorry … there may be a lot of cover bands for a specific rock band but I will always 10 times out of 10 purchase the original music.

That’s an interesting take. Yes cover bands are great. But they are just that. Copying the original

I think that as more movies are made with Miles Morales, more people will jump on board and want that 9.8 as a keepsake or collectable or as a long term investment. So I think 80,000 is a relatively small amount considering not all will be 9.8s.

    • @Chris-es3wf

I just don't think Mike's Morales has the staying power to carry multiple movies. He's only ever going to be a multiverse play or supporting character. Peter Parker is who everyone knows as Spider-man. Always will be.

Miles is one of the only post 2000 characters who has staying power. These kids nowadays absolutely love Miles Morales and that’s who will buy his stuff long term. That’s who’s dragging their parents to watch his movies and buy his video games and funko pops. Us older folks love Peter Parker, these kids in grade school consider Miles their Spider-Man . UF4 will hit its bottom soon enough but unlike these other books, 2021 sell prices will not be the ceiling for this book.
