    Hi Andrew, this is Andre’ from Jamaica. I had messaged you a few years back when we learned of your hospital admission. I was the one who told you to ensure you were having a big breakfast in the mornings 6 days a week as a basis for trimming down the pounds abit. Anyway, I got my Akai am73 last night and after 15min of blinking lights it fired up. Between crackly pots that won’t go away after contact cleaner and even a tuts of gasoline, I can tell it is amazing amplifier. It out classes my Marantz sr8002 (modified by me to bypass internal preamp and replace with high end opamp) sounds amazing now but this Akai surpasses it. I owe you 1 or maybe a hundred. Not as brite as my modified Marantz but just as detailed and more sophisticated, easier to listen to. May have to change volume “pot meter” as you call it. Chows- Jamaica

    Yes dude that's the way it should be. Now the receiver / amplifier is beautiful. Decently. Until next time.

    I have the Akia AM-2400 Integrated Amp & AT -2400 Tuner, which appear to be the same generation ('76-79') as the receiver. Do not see much Akai in the USA, a lot of Pioneer, Marantz, Sansui, Kenwood, Yamaha, & Onkyo. This setup sounds amazing on many speakers and is a keeper!

    Hi, I have the same akai AA1175 amplifier as you.
    From minute 02:35, where you can see the transistors/power amps, can you tell me if the transistor with its metal part is in contact with the cooling fin, or is there a thermal pad?
    Thanks, Orlando.

    I’ve got a pristine one in the “to be repaired” storage. If the outputs are bad, ask Simon what part numbers will sub.

    beautiful piece of classic HiFi equipment, control layout is a bit strange, wonder how many times you've accidentally detuned the radio while looking for the volume control.

      Never, the tuning knob is often he biggest in these vintage devices

  • @jhallo7740
    @jhallo7740 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How accurate is the allignment of the tuner section after all these years? I had a quartz synthesized tuner from early 90's, and the mf and fm detector section had to be both re_alligned. I think the aging of caps can become a problem, certainly after 40 years...Very nice receiver btw. In those days, you had something really nice for the money, In these days, you get a cheap plastic toy, and if it's broken, you throw it away.🤔

      @vintagestereo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the alignment of the tuner was in this akai still good but often i discovered that a device needed alignment. Simon bought equipment to align the analog tuners....jipeeee

    It seems to me you are obsessed with the components, but never actually listen to music. Why are you doing this?

    • @vintagestereo
      @vintagestereo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can only listen 1 device. I kept this one for my daughter because it's so beautiful but she didn't had interest. Don't really know why I keep so many, time to sell a few

    • @davidfromamerica1871
      @davidfromamerica1871 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe he has little time to listen to music.

      @@davidfromamerica1871 No I have my equipment on as soon I am awake and I hardly watch TV but once a device is playing, it keep playing. I only change it when I fall II prefer that one above the older one. So I am spinning music all day but only when testing new scored stuff, I change the source band/ore speakers. The thing is that this akai AA-1175 sounds good but not as good as the device what is normally playing so why would I change that better sound in a inferior sound....

      @ thedude i have at least 15 diffrent amplifiers and receivers , i use 7 regularly each their own "system" . Everything from brand new Marantz sr7013, Adcom GFA-555SE, vintage Marantz 1070, Akai Am2600, Nad , Sansui to Noresco 2470II (Rotel clone) Insignia STR514 , Yamahas ,Pro audio Inkel, Rasma and even STK amps from Kenwood ,Technics , Sherwood ect the only reason I dont use them all the time is I dont have enough rooms or areas for them its a addiction and a love , not to mention countless componates.
