I have the 1200. Pristine condition. Bought at garage sale from original owner for $20 ten years back. Didn’t know what I was buying, but when I first heard it, I knew it was something special. I knew by the weight it was quality. I love it.
Mine is just an AKAI AA1050 at only 50 W/Channel RMS.... regardless, I can attest to as clean/crisp power through JBL4312A's as anything I've ever heard, LOVE it ! IMO, AKAI was extremely under-rated gear
One of the best (if not the best ) vintage gear review! Great Job! PS It made me changing my mind about the new amplifier to buy - previously I was into Pioneer SX780 but this AKAI is just wonderful piece of audio!
Great video. Nice job! At least one of those date ranges in that book is incorrect. The SX-x50 series was 1976-78. In fact, they started making the x80 series in late 1977, so there was a bit of overlap. I do like the FM Muting level feature on this one. That would have been nice back when people listened to the radio :) Also, one other feature this receiver is possibly missing is a turnover for the bass and treble. Not a feature I use a lot, but many or most of the TOTL models from other manufacturers did have that. A couple weeks ago I picked up an AM-2600, which I've really liked. It has some really great features and sounds excellent!
The Yamaha CR-600 had aluminium knobs, The Akai 1040 has plastic knobs. I like that the Akai has The dial integrated with the perspex section. The general view then was that the Akai was a poor man's Yamaha. I was a very poor man, i couldn't afford any. Nowadays i have both.
This should be a monster, i have an AA-1175 and that is awesome. This 1200 should be better . i own so many of vintage receivers and amps but i love my Aa1175 more.

IMO, AKAI was extremely under-rated gear

@@EC-ki5wv The Akai is more neutral, the Yamaha is abit more articulate. None of them are bad.

Hi, I have an Akai 1200 aa. I notice when you had the top off and just wondering is it easy to clean the dials for Stadic sound caused by corrosion.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I like that book, need to get 1 of those. Panasonic/Technics are the copy cats.
There are some similarities to my Concept 16.5 which is also dual mono.
That's so interesting. I thought Harmon Kardon was the only one.
Kenwood also did dual transformer integrateds but not receivers.
