• Update: My TV Show, P...
No more alternative media, You are going mainstream. Bravo. And doing what you like not selling your soul to the devil.
I'm glad things are looking good for you. Keep up the good work!
Remember with a lot of those speed controllers they also provide a built in 5V supply for the receiver, so you do not need the extra voltage regulator. Fed back to the receiver via the 3 pin data connector. Check on the controllers if they provide a 5V supply on the cable when you apply only 12V to them.
Great that you are working doing sets and props. Have done that for decades and seeing them on screen is such a gas!
Congratulations on your newfound work opportunities. You were sounding a little down towards the end of last year. Hopefully you've found a new field of work you can prosper in.
The telecom box you made was really good ,,,I should know I worked for British telecommunications for 15 year's ,,,well done sir
I loved it! I guess all the idiots talking trash about the props don't realize when you're doing commission work, the customer gets what he/she wants. Makes no difference if it's accurate to "real life", as long as the requirements were met. Keep up the great work.
I'm really happy for your success! The hard work paid off, man! That is great. Nice to hear how it is behind the scenes for the propmaker. Can't wait to see what you do with the other robots.
Bester Erfolg, wundervoll!
Congrats on your show biz debut! Hopefully we'll get to see your work stateside sometime. I always enjoy your videos. You're entertaining, educational, and inspirational. Great job!
Bravo! I will not be surprised if someday you will have a workshop like Jamie Hyneman. At least you at the same path :)
You have a shit-ton of skills, knowledge and communication abilities! It's cool to know that a film/tv production company has applied them.... Awesome! And you were paid!!!! I hope the producers spread your name around! You could add all sorts of entertaining gadgets that would affix viewers eyes! Hey, that = $$$$$! Hope all is well, from Colorado, USA, "Halte deinen Stock auf deinen Eis!"
Congrats on your new gig! More work will surely come of it. Best wishes and thanks for all your hard work and sharing it with us.
Nice work. The LSA-Kemmen (Löt-,Schneid & Abisolierfrei; solder-, cut- and stripfree) you found look - judging by the color coding - like real standard telco-stuff. Pretty handy things, since they also feature integrated measurement connections. While those are mostly used nowadays those Kabelverzweiger also commonly used wire wrapping or screw terminals in the past. The Terminals you used here look pretty much identical to ones I know from KVZs installed in my proximity. If you wouldn't have mentioned them being from another installation the only thing I would have doubted would have been - besides the obvious CAT-cable/outlet positions - the overall tidiness of the wiring ;)
Standard phone interconnects, though you could also find other connection schemes in these cabinets. Here the most common is the pale blue and green 3M in old installations, and newer is Krone blocks, with a brief ( but definitely not likes) period with Quante punch down blocks being used. Networking is almost all Krone style, or at least compatible with the Krone tooling, though there are differences between the telco voice blocks and those meant to be used for network interconnections.
Orange cable to a box best would have been a gray box instead of black, with a laser warning label on it, to look like an optical fibre interface, along with a random vertical PCB in the cabinet with a bundle of ribbon cable going to the box as well, preferably with a single blinking green light that goes red when the cable is cut.
Sehr interessant! Total eigenständiger inhalt. Habe ich so noch nie gesehen. Danke dir
The Vileda robot looks a lot like the Rxxxxxx model 400 I once owned about 10 years ago, except I paid about ten times more for it than you did for yours. It used the same NiMH battery design, same central large brush assy, same wheel design with spring damped suspension and same optical encoders. It also clogged up exactly like yours did, so much so, that it took more time for me to unclog the thing after each and every floor cleaning than it did actually sweeping my floors. After about 20 sweeps it broke down to the point where I could no longer buy replacement parts so stopped using it entirely. I'm told the newer ones are better but they're still high maintenance compared to a plain old room vacuum. Makes a nice robot toy to play with, though ;>)
That is so exciting! Can´t wait to see more of thode prob videos and the science behind them!
So you basically went with the off-the-shelf RC solutions + motor drivers that I suggested (and probably others did, too). Nice one! :-)
Good luck with your business. I think you have an aptitude for giving the film industry what it wants. That could lead to a lot of work and a lot of money. Like the "Mythbusters"!
Well done and the very best of luck to you sir. Lets hope that this opens many new doors for you.
That is so fabulous you gained industry connections. You can only have more work in the future.
It's only "close enough" if you've never worked in telecomms :) Having said that, I think your channel is great and you deliver it so well, many thanks.
I have always called them krone blocks. i would have recommend finding some 50 pair cable, and called around to anyone who installs/maintains analogue phone systems still they will have left overs that will usually go in the bin as they are too short for an actual install.
i must say i loved seen the bic lighter......Proudly south african.and on that not from south africa i love your channel.Proud to be a subscriber and congrats on your new job yes sorry its late in saying so
How wonderful. Things are really looking up. Well done 🙌
Inspired by your earlier video I bought a vacuum identical to your "Vileda" model (but branded differently) for $22 AUD. I hooked its motors up to a dual h-bridge with a Raspberry Pi Zero W controlling that. Works well!
I hope your talents are exploited more and more ....(in a good way of course). Keep networking and things should grow and grow. I cant wait to see the follow ups. Good job
Maybe could have used pro camera battery packs - because they have a load of them on hand. Fun vid, thanks
those punch down blocks are being used currently in most exchanges it took over from the old test desk and main rack wire and post setup where all connections were soldered
What a great project and a story. Thanks for sharing it!
Very nice! Especially the phone hub cabinet. Working for the dutch telecom industry I can tell you that, as you said, the prop is quite good for someone who doesn't work with it daily. Those things can be messy though, so for better comparison please don't make it too pretty...
Excellent videos, always improving. I have the Vileda one, bought it from Lidl in the UK for around €60. I tinker a bit but I'd love to make it dock back into a charger station and/or controllable via the web, like an IoT device. I have the tools and parts but lack tge expertise.
This was an amazing video!
Keep them coming!
The premise for "Die Fuchsin" sounds like that of excellent 1990s series "Bugs"! =)
Super interesting to get an insight into these kind of jobs! I like it!
I think prop-making is very cool. I am one of those people who sees the "faults" in props in movies. Like in some movie there was a HP oscilloscope placed at a bout 2m height in a book shelf cabinet. It showed a sinewave. Not only doing nothing at a complete useless location but the most stupid thing was that the scope was placed upside down.
Cool video. You might find that opportunities open up to get things to explode for the movies. Best brush up on your ignition circuits, countdown clocks and safe explosive handling ;) (of course you have to have a qualification to be able to work professionally).
Add drawing, painting and musical skills and this chap is a Renaissance man.
I notice you are a big fan of the 7805. You might consider 'switching' to a dc/dc converter instead, whose efficiency is about 20% better. In power constrained situations its a big win and far less heat.
Those phone line connectors are called 'punch down blocks' due to the way you connect them; with a tool and punching action.
Very interesting about the jobs with movie props!
Here in the USA there was a TV show (1970s?) where two teenagers had a radio-controlled bulldozer painted black, with a 35mm camera mounted to it so that when the blade dropped it would trigger the camera. They would use it to solve crime. I don't remember the name of the show.
The ESC has a 5v BEC to power receivers through the red/black/white control wire - so you double-powered it at 9:15
Great stuff, looking forward for more videos, TPAI über alles!!
This video Its remind me the old good videos you released thank you keep it up 🌷
That's very exciting! Good work begets more work- you may find yourself with a new career, which would be pretty exciting. Keep up the good work!
Just so you know, most RC car ESCs have a built in 5V linear regular (BEC) built in. Omitting your external regulator may increase battery life.
I love your work. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome! Great insight into the fun stuff you're doing! :D
I'm just wondering what happened to the audio... Sounds extremely compressed for me, way too much for 1080.
Did anyone else notice that?
sounds very compressed for me too
Sounds fine to me, maybe youtube is sending out bad audio to you for some reason, like maybe it thinks your connection is slow.
Really jealous of your new shop!
i like the phone box prop
I am curious how the new Roomba keeps from spreading dog poop everywhere. What sort of sensor did they use and how much poop did they have to use to get it to work?
Excellent project
like the 103 Peugeot 💪💪💪 représent
Those telephone connectors are usually called IDC terminals, or to be brand-specific, Krone terminals, tonnes available on places like ebay from people gutting telecommunications equipment, bit late now I know, but at least you know for the future just in case... :)
Convert one of the robo vacuums to pick up metal chips and metal dust with a magnet around the workshop :)
Maybe your washin machine robot will operate like your litte vacuums. You can use a full size vacuum lol.
It'd actually be quite easy to make a robotic full-sized vac using a Kirby Generation-series model, as they have a self-propel feature operated by the handle connected to a simple transmission run from the motor, swap the actuating lever between handle & transmission for a small R/C servo and make the front wheels somewhat steerable, and there you have it, and R/C full-sized vac... :)
Excellent video.
Nice but I am in to rc world and I am shure that those esc(eletronic speed controler) have internal 5v converters
Well done.
Very good.
Fascinating insight, thank you.
Great vid, thanks for sharing. Rather too many adverts to hold concentration.
Is that a Tomos moped?
i think samsung had a camera vacume bot it used the camera for machine learning of the layout of your house
Herrlich
Danke
1:41 how do you think if they give you a credit in closing credits?
17:15 - There looks like there's half of a dead cat in there!
18:53 - Robot Vacuum Ironman competitor!
His final vacuum must have been used by cat lady
my roomba had a clever arrangement to help clean the hair, they had clearly though of it.
If i would living nearby i would ask for a place in your shop to thinker with you and exchanges ideas .
kick ass,
The hair part was a horror movie :)
When I watch these videos, why does Daniel Düsentrieb always come to my mind... ?
English summary: I am a typical weird german that is annoyed by unrealistic effects in movies.
English summary: Don't be an asshat...
Es ist nur eine fiktive Fernsehserie. Sein Arbeitgeber war glücklich. Ihre Meinung ist irrelevant.
What happened to the sound... Sounds like a 56kbit MP3 stream....
So this is how dumb shit gets in TV shows...a guy just wants to get paid, so he doesn't ask the obvious questions that a guy receiving a vacuum as a gift would when he sees a camera sticking out of it and it doesn't actually vacuum.
Roomba football?
a female hacker?
I love you
