I have one of these, live in the country and it has enough power to overtake fine, goes offroad well. People in the comments are a bunch of city dwellers who probably sit in traffic all day
If you’re in no rush to get anywhere, then it’s just a bloody nice drive. Comfortable ride, feels solid and the smoothness of the boxer engine is sweet.
So I saw this TH-cam video criticise the allegedly under powered engine on this Crosstrek. I then drove 2 of them. A friends, and then a demo car at a Dealer. I literally laughed and came to conclusion ALL of these car reviewers are petrol heads who want a racing car and routinely speed on Aussie roads. While this car is no petrol gussling racer it has more than adequate power and acceleration for the average driver. It doesn't need a 2.5L engine and that will only be less fuel efficient. I wouldn't recommend this car for a family of 4 but it's great as is for a single person or couple. It's also quiet, doesn't whine and has excellent boot space. After laughing at this review I bought the 2.0R Crosstrek :)
The powertrain is the only big hindrance for me to getting one. I owned the first gen XV and was hoping Subaru Australia to increase the power since then, but it did not happen and still doesn't happen even though in US and China have the 2.5L options. In the end, switched to Golf Alltrack and never look back.
As the owner of a 2015 MY XV I would not recommend one of these cars. I bought the Subaru after a Mazda 3 Sedan that I had owned for over 120,000 km. It has been a real let-down compared to the Mazda. There is just no "soul"; it feels more like an appliance. Next year I will be looking for a replacement and I'm looking at another Mazda 3 (or maybe a Mazda 2).
I still have an '06 XT Auto that I purchased in 2010. Over 200k on the clock. Basically untouched except for consumables. Just did the wheel bearings and Radiator.
Any car deal must start with the Manufactures MSRP and dealer should explain DSRP dealer suggested retail price aka dealer mark ups. Example: Subaru Crosstrek Base 2024 is 25,195 MSRP 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Base model standard features: * Engine: 2.0-liter 4-cylinder * Transmission: Automatic (CVT) * Wheels: 17-inch dark gray alloy wheels * Safety: Assist pre-collision braking, lane assist, cruise control * Infotainment: 7” touchscreen, Starlink media, Apple CarPlay, Android integration * Other features: Steering-response LED lights, climate control, cloth seats, satellite radio, sound system, USB-A data and charging port, cargo tray, and rear seat reminder
A turbo would definitely go a long way in the Crosstrek. But maybe an improved hybrid could also serve the same role; I read something about Subaru working on a new-generation hybrid powertrain for the next Forester. Apparently borrowing Toyota technology, so hopefully that means something more effective than the relatively mild hybrid of the existing eBoxer.
Karoq is much closer to Crosstrek - it's actually considerably shorter than a Crosstrek. Skoda does in-betweener SUV sizes: Kamiq small SUV = 4241mm Karoq small SUV = 4382mm Crosstrek small SUV = 4495mm Forester midsize SUV = 4640 mm Kodiaq midsize SUV = 4697mm
I would have bought one if it came in a 2.5L engine and had better fuel economy. In this day and age the fuel economy is simply not good enough for a small car.
I had a 2015 xv 6 speed manual . And although it was still down on power it was a huge improvent over the cvt version as it freed up the powerband of the engine, no issues overtaking in the manual equipped cars . As for this model. Why would you build a car and go backwards. Its odd. The grey plastic trim on the interior looks like something out of 90s Toyota. And the way it angles off on the door cards looks like the design was unfinished. Shame because they a great solid little go anywhere machine.
You've used words such as dangerous...and described aspects of overtaking implying concerns with safe and responsive acceleration when needed the most. Given this vehicle is appealing to those looking to travel on the open roads, ovettaking & responsiveness are patamount. I appreciate your review, and will watch with interest over the coming months, given you've described some of the journeys you'll be undertaking as requiring open roads, and undoubtedly overtaking. Thank you for the honest appraisal thus far.
I think some perspective is required before throwing the safety card around regarding power.. by all means I understand people grilling Subaru for not offering the 2.5 for those who want more grunt... but that's where it should end. There's nothing dangerous about the power for overtaking.. or at the very least, if one is going to use such terms, than be fair, and label every other car of similar power.. or less for that matter dangerous for overtaking as well.. and there are PLENTY . Including the top selling car in Aus, and its competitors. Cars also used for travelling open roads extensively.
@@andrewiverach659 That’s good, but it does seem to be a recognised issue. Maybe it’s later models. I think there was a class action lawsuit. All modern windshields are brittle but the Subaru seemed to be problematic for many.
How about modifying it so it actually has boot space sufficient for a small family instead of only a couple? Then add a powertrain that doesn’t need the tits rev’d out of it which ruins the fuel economy…. Then add an interior that doesn’t still feel a generation behind everything else in the class.
After owning a 2017 Impreza, a 2021 Outback Touring and now the 2022 Impreza S. The new Crosstrek is a let down. The quality on interior materials has really come down in quality, the ride is not great. The new asking price is not justified. After driving this vehicle for a few weeks, we are very disappointed. A real shame as we love Subaru.
When are car manufacturers going to get it through their heads that CVT’s are just RUBBISH. If a car doesn’t have a torque converter gearbox or a manual, I immediately cross it off my list of prospective next cars.
Do you know something the Subaru engineers dont about CVTs ir do you just parrot what you are told about CVTs by non-engineers I have 2 Subarus and have no issues at all with the CVT Whats the issue that pisses you off?
The Subaru will be around a lot longer then some of the other makers. A lot of the first XV still running around in great condition. You have to remember these cars are great on the poor roads of Oz and can get you in and back out of some wild places. So many Subaru in the Blue mountains area.

Reading the description, I noticed the Skoda Karoq is listed as a competitor. But a Karoq is Forester sized. Maybe they mean Kamiq.

WIth they would bring back the XT turbo name. So sad so many of the last engines made by these manufacturers will be some of their worst.

Did a test-drive today. Gutless car. Engine needs a overhaul. Might as well get an impreza.
I would love to own one. But with this engine? What was Subie thinking? Bring us the 2.5L or put a decent turbo in it Subie.
There are articles that suggest a possible launch of the Crosstrek Wilderness edition with the 2.5L engine. I hope this is a possibililty
I considered getting a Subaru before deciding on a CX-5. I was concerned about so many reports of windscreens cracking on the Subaru.
Cx5 is outdated n more expensive but feels more premium n NVH is close if not the same like Lexus..
@@TheGillederais My CX-5 feels very far from outdated.
Put 200,000km on an outback and never had an issue with the windscreen 2018 model.

We’ll see what we can do
If only it came with the 2.5 Lt. as a variant.
A 2.5 litre would be perfect. Even a 2.0 turbo would win over a lot of potential buyers. Such a wasted prospect.
The yanks with the 2.5 still want more power. The price for this car is good with so many going north of the 50k.

Subaru doing Subaru things. Just put the bigger engine in already and add an XT version with a turbo.
That would be great!
Love Chasing Cars, but won’t watch anything that contains cars as crap as this sorry
What is so crap about it-have you driven one??
