"The way of walking alone," the path least traveled - is usually a silent war. Silent war to me, meaning that i battle with my own self / the skeletons in my closet. I've had that book (The Book of Five Rings) for many years yet have never fully read it, but I didn't hesitate or skip a beat reading Eiji Yoshikawa's Musashi; very deep and insightful philosophies. Thanks for sharing!

… as a German Biologist…this is about “naked Soul” - “Homeless Soul” -to be brutally Essential. Totally Functional. There is no better way - a sort of Life Engineering. PEAK. Pawlow de Conditioning. Blank. Total Surrender to nature - like any wild animal does in harsh survival. Then you bring out the very best. Like Top Art, Science, PEAK Life. Emotional Dry Fasting I call it…Those are the best Elite in perennial tradition. The back bone spinal cord of Humanity. To be part of this Community is the very best you can reach. Worth it each second and any hardship…Path of Excellence….

Is it possible that it may be meaning that if you aren't following all of the parts at the same time, then you aren't following "the way"? Maybe it is saying something like it is asking you to sort of have some sort of mindset which may include all of those parts and maybe to not lose that sort of "mindset" at least about those sorts of things, or else you may not be following the "method" / the "way" of... something in particular, if you wanted, I guess. I dunno, was just a thought, I guess. I don't really know anything about any of this.

Interesting video - it’s always fascinating to me how we all interpret Go Rin No Sho.
I started reading it about 35 years ago, and it probably took me till my mid 20s to understand most of it.
Some of it is impenetrable to us 21st century gaigin- but it’s interesting nonetheless.
What’s fun for me right now are all the TH-cam videos like this - those being genuinely honest about their relationship with the book and it’s author.
I honestly don’t know what’s “better” - having started martial arts, picked up the book and figured it out much of it over time for myself (since I’m very much pre-Internet vintage), or having the University of TH-cam teach the fundamentals…..

    16. Weapons are of the highest importance to me, I will not concern myself with other things. (most Dokkodo videos, like this one, have nr 16 inverted).

Send say would it matter if you’re a Christian and still study martial arts?

Not at all. Study Budo as a way of life, not as a beilief system. Budo is for everyone who seeks it out and practices it, actively.

The Dojo - Samurai and Ninja Martial Arts thanks a lot Sensei. If I ever get the chance to visit your dojo and practice with you I will. You have an amazing dojo and passion. The people here in South Africa is quite different. Most of them lose the passion they had and just do it for the money

@@thedojomartialarts Always wondered about how you go about learning the practices of Zen Buddhism meditation yet believeing and maintaining your faith in Christ. Appare tly they are not meant to coorelate but I always womdered if you just want to follow the practices where do you start?

@@outboundflight4455 I personally think you can definitely add teachings of Buddhism to your personal beliefs. In prayer you are in a conversation with God, in meditation you are in a conversation with yourself. Both can serve the same purpose and achieve the same goals of growth, mindfulness, etc. If you look at older churches, Christian groups all over the world before the middle ages especially, many people combined teachings of Christ with teachings of the local religion or local Christian teachers. They had faith in Christ, believed he was the son of God, but made it something they were comfortable and familiar with. The great Christian churches, like the Catholic, Orthodox and later on protestant churches, might not agree with such teachings, so such groups are often small and pushed to the margins by whatever church or other religion that held the power in the area.
To me a personal relationship with God is more important than rules a church might set, so to me it's very easy to combine teachings of different religions and ways of thinking to what works best for me. I can imagine others think differently about this. But I am not too familiar with Buddhism, just thinking about what I learned over the years.

Amazing! I actually started rereading FIive Rings again after 12years, this past week. Stil starting Earth Chapter. This book meant very much to me in my teens studying KenJitsu and Jujitsu. Got me hooked into Bushido, the way of the Katana and Japanese culture.

12th line you say that for you it is important where you live. Then 14th line you say that you could not care less if your house will burn. I can see contradictory between those comments.
I would like to find more information about Musashi, dokkodo and ascetism. Havent red that 5 rings yet maybe that is the way to start.

You're wrong, it says to pay no mind where you live. Wherever you live, you can make an opportunity
