      Just a quick disclaimer though, Vagabond is not and shouldn't be considered an accurate depiction of his life. Some events may be true but it is not a biography, it is more of how the author Inoue Takehiko decided to write him. Takhekio himself was inspired by another author who made a fiction novel about Musashi's life.
      It is still an amazing Manga nonetheless!

    I think the essentials of his philosophy are in temperance and momentum.
    He emphasizes a kind of living in the flow of destiny which is about continuity of action in body and spirit (don't let your spirit influence your body and vice versa). The reason for his success in battle is probably because he successfuly hid the states of his spirit completely by keeping it temperate (a low and high spirit are weak). This is because the enemy could then not predict his attacks as predictions are based on the enemies temperament both high and low. So his attacks must've been hard to predict.

    • @tobyludeman3839
      @tobyludeman3839 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perhaps his “attacks” were a mere “response” to the situation that presented itself unto him not only in armed conflict, but within day to day “life”.

    • @emin_thepoet
      @emin_thepoet ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tobyludeman3839 Yes I think you're right. And that's because martial arts was never supposed to be used in combat but for human ethical living. Obviously the samurais had their faults due to a japanese "jahiliyya" (age of ignorance) Without prophetic guidance but we all fall short of the glory of God so the best is to take the beautiful good and useful and leave the ugly and faultering.

      Meant is dont make yourself dependent on another person. Be self-sufficient. Dont rely on others - not their opinions about you nor their actions towards you - to do what is right.
      Love is mentioned together with Lust. Dont strive to have a love-relationship. Basically dont strive for marriage.
      The path of the warrior is a lonely path.
      Musashis Philosophy has alot of similiarities to stoicism and stoicism suggests to reign and control emotions and not be controlled by them. Thinking that you need a certain emotional state to act the right way is making youself dependend on that emotion which is wrong both by the view of Musashi and Stoicism.
