Just wanted to thank you for these videos. Being a whiskey fan myself, this is enjoyable. Also, being a manager of one of the busiest liquor stores in Virginia, this has helped inform the customers too. Any whisky conversation I have I mention you two. Thanks again.
Just bought a bottle of superstition. My first peated whiskey...im new to whisky drinking but already loving it. Jura superstition is high on my rankings 👌
Yes!! Anthony Bourdain is my man crush. How can you not love a man that travels, gets paid to eat and travel, and is sarcastic about pretty much all things.
Not only has the Whiskey Vault made me a more thoughtful whiskey drinker...but it also gives me a damn good belly laugh in the process. Thanks for the vids!
So I have had a similar experience with the funky smells. I bought a bunch of beginner bottles of Whisk[e]y's, Two of them were buffalo Trace and Loch Lomon. I was comparing a Bourbon to a Scotch and when i would go over to the Loch Lomon I would smell wet dog. EVERY SINGLE DAMN TIME! So smelly. Thanks for the videos you guys are great.
I love the concept of this episode. I think comparison tastings would be awesome. 1) Helps you move through the vault. 2) These were some of the most helpful tasting notes. You could do this with any distillery that has multiple expressions, 2-3 per episode max would be perfect.
You guys far exceed the TH-cam standard for whiskey review channels. The douchebaggery that is most whiskey channels makes them literally unwatchable. Your videos make whiskey seem much more approachable and easier to comprehend.
Daniel and Rex, thanks for the Jura review. Always entertaining. I'm glad to hear your thoughts on the Superstition. I suffer from fairly chronic congestion so I miss out on much of the nuances in my whiskies. Turns out the peet and smoky flavors are the ones I can smell and taste easily. Because of this I recently picked up a Laphroaig 10. I know you don't start out as a newbie with heavily peeted but I really enjoyed it. Your reviews help me know what to look for that I often miss with my congestion. Thanks for an entertaining and informative show.
This is interresting. All the normal range Jura bourbons all sit within a reasonable pricerange here in DK. they all sit somewhere within 50-110$, and we can also get the more expensive stuff. found a danish website that sells the entire range, including special edition
Cool. I look forward to seeing it !!! If you (or your viewers) are interested, I run a whisky blog where I laugh, make smart-ass comments, and sometimes even review whiskies. Check it out if you have time.ontarioscotchlover.blogspot.ca/2017/05/spring-forward-review-of-springbank-10.html
"Chimchimeri Chimchimeri Chim Chim Cheru.. there are a few things i would like to do. Drinking good whiskey and mooching it too. those are the great things a moocher must do" A new theme song for Rex
Comment 121 hear. Wow dan and old rexator used to dress up for this. You can see how Daniel used to run things. Boy its come full circle. Ive only had the Jura 10 year single malt but if thats a reflection of everything else there putting out ill be back. Very lovely rice pudding with cinnamon and brownsugar, peated cream cheese melted into sugar sweet cream with fresh cut strawberries. Reminds me of making deserts with my grandmother when i was a little lad. Not what i would grab for something peaty, far from your Lagavulin or Laphroaig but very nice and in its own lane. Really just a kiss on the cheek of smoke, but youll still get butterflies. Jura 10 brings me back to being 9 years old. Genuinely made me smile and my heart flutter after 2 sips.
I am looking to buy my dad a great father's day gift. He enjoys whisky & I am wondering if Jura 18 would be good? I have read many great reviews on the Jura 18, but also several reviews saying that it is terrible whisky... I love watching your guys reviews, and I trust your judgement.
so to add to the growing page of mooch stories I worked a winter at a ski resort that served the the mega rich and was located in a dry state. one of my main jobs was to suggest pairings for dinners and what not. but of course in order to do that I had to have tasted these wiskey, wines, gins ect. so I got to spend the whole winter drinking $500-$15000 a bottal drinks
Just picked up jura “the sound” at dutyfree,it dose not say how many years it’s matured and I’m not a whiskey drinker so I’m trying to find reviews online ! Don’t see any, wonder if I was conned! This was at delhi duty free
hey since this video Jura has replace their range of whisky completely with Jura Journey, 10, 12, seven woods and 18. Any thoughts on those? are you planning to review them? cheers
The only Jura I have had is the Jura 21, and it is the only whiskey I have tried that I didn't like straight. To be fair it was one of the first I had bought, but don't know if i would spring for another bottle at the price point to try again
Well I was wondering about the 18 as it’s at a great price at my local, but seeing the 10 possibly as good or better then the 16 I’m second-guessing myself 🤔😩
Here is a 2 part question for Rex/Daniel or anyone in the comment section: 1. Have you ever had the chance of trying bruichladdich black art before it got hellishly expensive? 2. Is there ever a whisk(e)y you would want to collect in order to just save a bottle of forever and not drink? I know you guys said whisk(e)y is for drinking and enjoying, but I'm curious on your thoughts of collecting. Also, the reason I asked these two together is because of your mention of " Jura: Superstition". I am a pretty big enthusiast for super-natural/ghost/spectral themed things and I saw that "Bruichladdich: black art" is only bottle that is really supernatural looking (unless you also consider Jim beam Ghost). I currently have a small collection of magic grimoires the late early 1900s and I think it would be a neat to combine my two collecting loves but am unable to really find affordable whiskey that is of the ghostly-novelty.
1. yes and no. I tried it early on, but I also buy it regularly now because it's so damn good. 2. no. All whisky i buy is for drinking. Even when we got the Macallan M, the first thing I did was open and drink some. I'm not much of a collector because I prefer to drink it. But I get the appeal. I love the theme. I'll have to think on options.
I found one whisky that the box is macabre theme'd. It is a german whisky called Aureum 1865 grave digger. Though not exactly what I'm looking for, I just found it interesting. I may end up buying a bottle of black-art, but I don't know if I can justify the price, especially when I'm in the process of buying a house. Although, oneday, I hope to make a room in the basement with a hidden bookshelf door and store all my whisky's in a secret room behind it... though I see it doesn't help protect from moochers!
I had a dram of jura 10 year to fill out a flight, it's funny seeing my friends (who I took to the bar to sample whiskeys as they are young on the trail), of all the whiskey's this was the most challenging of the night. My friend just fell in love with bourbon, the other scotch, and neither could take a sip lol. The most distinct taste i got (off a rocks glass) was nail polish remover, but in a pleasent way. Kinda shocked it's in the dalmore family and won't buy a bottle but it was a great conversation whiskey.
I would love to see a Jura Prophecy review. It's actually the only Jura I've had, but it was the one that made me turn to whiskey. I always hated whiskey, never got to like it in any way, but... somehow turned into a beer nerd, love beers, specially stouts and so i got to imperial stouts and by the end of the day, i was having a loto of smoked and peated stouts and porters, which are my favorite beers. So one day, i was coming back form international travel and lurking around the duty free I was watching whiskeys, mainly seeing how expensive those bottles were... those blue labels and others alike. I said to myself... "you respectable man, you have to have a whiskey at home so you can offer to your guests and look like you are cool" so i looked for something that wasn't expensive, but also not cheap and that the bottle looked cool. So I suddenly came across Jura, and between all those there was this Jura that said "heavily peated"...the Prophecy and I just took it. Long story short. I tried it, almost never shared it with guests and every time I got a chance I bought one, and so starts the story of a beer hater to turn into whiskey and have a small decent whiskey vault. Its has about 8 whiskeys, mainly Islay's and those Jura's, but growing (thanks to your videos I'm moving out of my comfort zone and Hibiki Harmony and Teeling Single Malt are on my way!)
In this show there was one who came up with an idea for: Who would get the whiskey. I almost think there were some good rules for the game, but I think it should go to one who is far away, so you can extend your viewing radius. I'm from Denmark, it's far away, but not too far! In addition, I have a podcast about alcohol, so it's not just me as a single person who will enjoy the product but many. And is the great pleasure in life not to share a good experiences with many? In addition, I do not remember any Mooch story that has not already been told, which made me think. Maybe I do not have any Mooch story - because I'm the Mooch in my friend group! Because I often get samples when I visit cocktail bars. But is the great pleasure in life not to share good experiences with me? Thank you for some great programs, I look forward to seeing what else you think of. Rex give Daniel the opportunity to geek out, it’s incredibly interesting. Best regards Theis
In the video "Order Whiskey Like a Gentleman" by Modern Rouge, (How I discovered this channel) Daniel mentions how making a smoked bourbon would be an interesting experiment. You should try High West Campfire whiskey as it combines an islay scotch blended with a bourbon. This would make for an interesting review, would love to see the reactions to such an unusual blend of peated Scotch with Bourbon (bottled in park city Utah). High west also makes a bourbon and double rye all affordable never got to try them myself yet but bought a bottle for a friend who enjoyed it.
Jura Superstition is my favorite whiskey for me. But I can no longer get it in the US. Can you guys recommend something very similar? I have sort of given up on whiskey because I have never found replacement.

Sooo i tried my googlefoo and did not find something like that and than in thought who do i know who is making Whiskys and is reading the commands on there Video aaaaand so i wrote this command and i am interested to hear your opinion about this idea! By the way, in favore of mooching for Whisky, as someone Who is really bad at mooching it would be an SUPER mooching move to Try to get the Whisky Shipped to the other side of the Pond, which would not only include a free Whisky that you pured into a bottle it would also be a mooching move because of getting the Whisky delivered on your costs... I feel not like that is a good thing, i shall never get a boneglas. I feel bad for this idea.... You should offer Mooching classes so i could maybe be able to think like that XD
can you try drinking the Jack Daniels Sinatra special? there's a 250 dollar bottle of it at my local liquor store and I don't have the money to buy it.
i love when you get to your 3rd or 4th video in a days recordings, you are so obviously a little pissy, it reminds me of sitting with my grandma when she has a third sherry and starts droping the word fuck in the most inappropriately cool ways.
Is the Jura 18 no good??? I can't find anything on this, and I wanted to get it for my dad for Father's Day. He's no experienced whisky drinker, he just enjoys it, and I want to get him something special. I don't drink whisky at all, I'm an IPA guy... Help please 😂
I liked Superstition, but found it a little underwhelming. Also I kind of think the names of a lot of Jura whiskies sound like fragrances :D Wanted to find a bottle of Prophecy but it seems to have disappeared :(
I just finished a bottle of superstitions, I found it had an almost overwhelming medicinal taste, like industrial cleaners or something. It just reminded me of the clean smell from a hospital. Anyone else find anything like this?
I wish Rex would call you out more for not wearing your black shirts daniel. i feel like that needs to be a constant in life or everything will come crashing down! A man walks into a bar and orders helicopter flavor chips. The barman replies “sorry mate we only do plain”
Great timing. I had been looking at the various Jura "expressions" ( Rex! ;) ) available here and based on my previous research I had the Superstition as the front runner. And apparently is the favourite of Richard Patterson as well. Some quick facts from the man in the video below. th-cam.com/video/BW1te_miu5I/w-d-xo.htmlm28s

I loved this round too. Mostly because... more whisky. ;-)
I mean, obviously.
Just saying, there are at least 3 different Four Roses expressions...
Hmmmmmmmmmmm
Jura 10 origin is in my top 2. But there are still lots of whiskeys/whiskies I need to try.
You guys far exceed the TH-cam standard for whiskey review channels. The douchebaggery that is most whiskey channels makes them literally unwatchable. Your videos make whiskey seem much more approachable and easier to comprehend.
I can only vouch for myself in the non-douchebaggery. The jury is still out on Rex.
Have you guys done a review on any of the chivas whiskeys?
Not yet!
@@WhiskeyVault dont you mean the "jura" is still out on Rex 😏
No Dan. No.
Daniel and Rex, thanks for the Jura review. Always entertaining. I'm glad to hear your thoughts on the Superstition. You guys should do a tasting/review of Craigellachie 13/17/19/23 or at least the 13. Nice videos. Slainte !
I have it on the list!

raise one up for Tony Bourdain... thanks for bringing so much joy to so many people
Absolutely! RIP Anthony. Since Daniel was such a fan, I wonder after Anthony's passing if Whisky Tribe did a tribute to him?
I am looking to buy my dad a great father's day gift. He enjoys whisky & I am wondering if Jura 18 would be good? I have read many great reviews on the Jura 18, but also several reviews saying that it is terrible whisky... I love watching your guys reviews, and I trust your judgement.

You and Ralfy should meet up on the Isle of Man.
Nah, ralfy is legit, these dudes are just clowns with semi developed palate.
How about Jura Prophecy
The best one IMO
Just picked up jura “the sound” at dutyfree,it dose not say how many years it’s matured and I’m not a whiskey drinker so I’m trying to find reviews online ! Don’t see any, wonder if I was conned! This was at delhi duty free
hey since this video Jura has replace their range of whisky completely with Jura Journey, 10, 12, seven woods and 18. Any thoughts on those? are you planning to review them? cheers
I agree with other commenters, please do more comparison videos. You guys should compare the different Dalmores!

Why is Rex barefoot? Classic! Haha
Here is a 2 part question for Rex/Daniel or anyone in the comment section:

2. no. All whisky i buy is for drinking. Even when we got the Macallan M, the first thing I did was open and drink some.
I'm not much of a collector because I prefer to drink it. But I get the appeal. I love the theme. I'll have to think on options.
Thank you very much for your reply! I will cherish these days before you become too big to read the thousands of daily comments, haha

I heard about this the other day! We need to get our hands on some!
Jura Superstition is my favorite whiskey for me. But I can no longer get it in the US. Can you guys recommend something very similar? I have sort of given up on whiskey because I have never found replacement.
Which jura is the best if you havent tried one of them before?
best story behind Jura. when I'm on my lunch break I'll write about it but a small piece of trivia..... there are 175-190 people on the island and 5000 dear

Hence, Diurachs own (aka Jura- the Island), Superstition and Prophecy.
You guys should try this with Highland Park.
How about the 19 year marked “the paps”?
This is funny. I am trying jura for the first time tonight, Jeremy is my first name, and spoon in my nick name
Which Jura whisky should i go for first? I have been thinking about buying a bottle but i cant decide which one
I just returned from the shop where Jura Journey is on sale at £14 for 35cl. I watched this video hoping to get your opinion about it but you've tested other Jura's. : (
pre-black shirt Daniel whaaaat i dont even know how to process it
Haha, that mooch medallion is awesome! Is the amount of corks some sort of level count?
and where was the superstition handshake?
Am I crazy or are these all different now?
I can buy a bunch of Jura's here but they are:
"Jura - Journey"
"Jura - 12 year old"
"Jura - Prophecy"
"Jura - Winter Edition"
Awesome fellas. Best channel on the tube. How about a Woodford Reserve Master Collection Straight Malt/Classic Malt comparison?
Oh yeah, Cilantro.
Just need to get some ;-)
Great video
The funky, dirty feet smell was my first impression as well, Daniel. But I’ve found it in both Superstition and Prophecy, and even in the Origin 10!
I got this funky cheese on the origin also...
I knew I didn't imagine it! Origin 10 for me.
As i was looking if my Order of Whisky got shipped i found a German Whisky which base is completely made from Spelt (if i google translated the german Word Dinkel correctly) It's called Bosh, The same day I went to a whisky bar and had the chance to take a sniff, and it was the first time for me to get like the moment of "that Smells like" and it was a real old Pear, like the few seconds before it gets rotten old Pear :D Sooo i did not taste it BUT it got my head on the way of a little tasting collection of Bottles of Whiskys made only from one kind of crop! Nice mooching attempt!
Still learning, waiting for clases XD But whats about the Idea of pure croop whiskys?
After taste like after taking food high in iron. Interesting taste. Love it👍
Is Funk in whiskey generally a bad taste?
The seven wood Jura is pretty beautiful
can you try drinking the Jack Daniels Sinatra special? there's a 250 dollar bottle of it at my local liquor store and I don't have the money to buy it.
We don't either ;-) If I can find someone to send it to us, we will.
Wizard Academy makes sense lol, what is the most expensive bottles you have? I'm curious
My most recent taste of Superstition was disappointing.. I enjoyed it before but It wasn't unpleasant per se, it was just lacking.
a weird funky cheese smell? put your socks and shoes back on Rex
Its too much whisky in their beards, all clogged up over the months of drinking, lucky sods!! ;)
Hey, I laugh at everything. Sometimes I laugh at nothing. LOL!
In Diurachs' own, i get a lot of citrus (lime) on the nose
i love when you get to your 3rd or 4th video in a days recordings, you are so obviously a little pissy, it reminds me of sitting with my grandma when she has a third sherry and starts droping the word fuck in the most inappropriately cool ways.
I think I like your grandma
Just found you guys y'all are great..
My favourite brand. Dissapointed by the chnages they made to the range and bottles recently
Also I kind of think the names of a lot of Jura whiskies sound like fragrances :D Wanted to find a bottle of Prophecy but it seems to have disappeared :(
Oh, how far we’ve come... there isnt a tonne of whiskey stocked under the windows...
weird because superstition is the one that got me into scotch in general, never was a fan before I tried it, never tried any other from Jura
11:23 Gotta love the disgusted look on Rex’s face every time Daniel cuts him off mid-sentence.🤨
Daniel, what’s up with all the Hollister clothes?
what about jura prophecy?
It's freaking awesome. I had it on the shelf, and completely forgot it.
Whiskey Vault you guys are awesome
Keep it up
I just finished a bottle of superstitions, I found it had an almost overwhelming medicinal taste, like industrial cleaners or something. It just reminded me of the clean smell from a hospital. Anyone else find anything like this?
You can often find that in the peated whisky if the smoke is heavy on the phenol elements. Springbank is even more so that direction.
Wizard Academy Phenol would be an antiseptic like taste?
I wish Rex would call you out more for not wearing your black shirts daniel. i feel like that needs to be a constant in life or everything will come crashing down! A man walks into a bar and orders helicopter flavor chips. The barman replies “sorry mate we only do plain”
forgot the Jura Prophecy?
Didn't forget.. just accidentally drank it all before we had a chance to shoot.
Wizard Academy best answer ever! 😂😂😂
What's brown and sticky? ...A stick.
And why does the Superstition stand alone? Because the cheese stands alone.
Wait till Rex sees this

Great timing. I had been looking at the various Jura "expressions" ( Rex! ;) ) available here and based on my previous research I had the Superstition as the front runner. And apparently is the favourite of Richard Patterson as well. Some quick facts from the man in the video below.

Now I feel even better about life. I enjoy the same things as Richard Patterson. I have arrived.
“Dusty Leather” sounds like the name of an eighty year old stripper.
"Do you want one too?" Hahahaha! You guys are so funny! I love your channel! Mooch, take a shower... the cheesy smell might go away. Jk
Come on Daniel sing the song good enough for a false copyright claim.
the Jura Elixir was a fine scotch in my experience.
Don't go hunting, guys. Really not cool. Especially as you send out so much whisky love.
Bill and Ted with alcohol.
Hine
I cant get past a waxy, soapyness with Superstition and Journey: th-cam.com/video/pIW8P7y8YAo/w-d-xo.html
Why did the girl get pregnant? ... Because her boyfriend asked "Durex?", thinking he said "Do Rex?" She said no.
Anyone else think these guys aren’t as funny as they think they are
yanks reviewing scotch whisky.....naaaa
