Fun fact. In the original early 2000s first Yakuza release. Majima was actually voiced by Mark Hamil, so any correlation to his crazy side in fighting seeming like the Joker shouldn't seem too off.

@@seanwallace9269 it doesn't help that the original release of that game in the west was recieved so poorly due to the attempt to market it like a GTA game that the franchise as a whole just completely nixed dub and almost Western releases in its entirety. The latest entry is the first step back into doing a localized dub since then.

Differences between Kiryu and Majima.
Kiryu is a stoic dude on the outside, but really nice when you get to know him. Majima is crazy. He tones it down in 0 due to some heavy stuff going on w/ him, but in battle he lets it all out, hence the manic giggling and his grinning. Majima does have a soft spot, but if u ain't a small child or a woman he cares about you'll rarely find it 💀
Overall in terms of fighting, Kiryu is more of a brawler (in 0 cuz he's a young noobie, later on he becomes a good martial artist). Majima is superior in technique and he's the more acrobatic of the two, while Kiryu takes strength.
He doesn't tone anything down. 0 is a prequel before he puts on his mask. He rarely drops his crazy demeanor.

That "fire" y'all were asking about is their heat aura. The different colors represent what fighting style they're using.
Blue is "thug style", really quick and uses martial arts move along with dirty moves like eye gouging or... just breaking someone's neck lmao.
Purple is "breaker style", Majima literally uses break dancing to fight and this style is incredibly broken.
Yellow is "slugger" style and mainly uses the bat, which Majima can swing around like nunchucks. Another broken style and is more tanky than the other ones.
And finally, the black smoke you saw at the end is Majimas "mad dog" style. It's the main fighting style Majima has used the entire series and combined elements of all the other ones this one.

You're right about Goro Majima having a more "maniacal glee", it's in his title, "the Mad Dog Majima", it's fun when we get to see the equal battles that Kiryu (Kir-yu) and Majima have when they face off, the "Dragon of Dojima" Kiryu versus the "Mad Dog" Goro Majima! Although if you check out all the "Majima Everywhere" scenes that take place in Yakuza Kiwami 1 (It takes place 10 years after Yakuza 0 I think?), you'll see that Majima is much more for the fun of the fight rather than actually crippling people!
Just helping you out since you said "I think", Chapter 1 of Yakuza 1/Kiwami 1 takes place 7 years later in 1995, then the rest takes place 10 years after in 2005, split between end of Zero and Kiwami 1 proper is 17 long years .. hope this was a good refresher and I hope I didn't sound jerky 😅

Fun Fact: Majima's nickname is "Mad Dog" Majima. Dude is crazy as hell but also loyal as hell everything he does baffles both allies and enemies but it's all out of loyalty to the Dojima Family.
So the color fire which is only in this and Kiwami, are the different fighting styles the characters use. For Majima he has Thug Style colored Blue. This style features a balance between attack, and defense it's his normal style and his most flexible style. Yellow is Slugger style this is a high attack but slow fighting style in which Majima equips a metal bat this bat he uses like a mix between a samurai sword and nunchucks and is great for enemies with tough defenses or a large number of them. Finally the Red style is Breaker in which he trades offensive power for defense speed and maneuverability, and uses break dance moves in combat similar to Capoeria. Kiryu also has styles and they are mostly similar to Majima in what they do overall Blue is Balanced, Yellow is powerful Offense and Red is swift Defense. Both also have a 'hidden' style for Majima this is his Mad Dog style and it's what he uses after Yakuza 0 as his default style.

Majima has some very brutal take downs, some of my favorites are when he takes someone's gun and then shoots his hand without looking when he tries to throw a punch and when he shoves the end of the bat in someone's mouth and then kicks his jaw up

in terms of battle kiryu is more of a powerhouse in raw strength using his fists and environments. while majima is more of a weapons user who uses weapons in a unique way, sorta of eccentric like himself. example being he uses a bat as a nun chuck. kiryu is like batman while majima is like joker. They have the craziest rivalry in any game ive ever seen. its absolutely funny. This is a game you should play too. it has a really deep story along with its slapstick comedy. highly requested.

Between the two of them Majima is supposed to be the weapons guy to the point he's always got a bat. Kiryu is more about his personal strength so he has more in that department however he doesn't have a lot of heat actions with weapons like Majima.
The use of weapons in Majimas just makes for more unique heat actions 🤩

Incase you want more stuff like this, than I recommend all lost judgment ex actions by haidozuvids. It's made by the same devs of yakuza 0 and is the most unique as it's a spin off series featuring detectives and lawyers.

Majima is a chaotic good character he is extremely unpredictable crazy and brutal in combat but deep down he’s a good guy even if he is insane i mean the man has helped out a lot of people he even saved a little girl and her mom from being used in human trafficking,he also helped out a lady save her daughter from an evil cult so he isn’t too bad despite his personality
The different color fires she was asking about are fighting styles, for kiryu it's blue-brawler, purple-rush, yellow-beast red-legend (dragon style) for majima it's blue-thug, purple-breaker, yellow-slugger, black-legend (mad dog)

i love majima if i were to describe him itd be two words, loyal and crazy. also that "break dancing" is a legit fighting style calle capoeira its typically a ceramonial brazillian dance but is also affective as a fighting style as it mixes up where someone should focus in a fight. also the fires are seperating the different fight styles u can do in game, kiryu has fire too but his fighting style are more well tame then majimas.
Actually, Majima's breaker style is just purely breakdancing. It just so happens that breakdancing has inspiration on Capoeira, so they do have some similarities, but that's not Capoeira at all. Just weaponized dance moves.

Capoeira isn't weaponized dance moves. It's fighting moves disguised as dancing, due to the context of how the fighting style was created. And the idle stance isn't similar to Capoeira at all. What Majima does is only acrobactic dance moves, not Capoeira moves.

He virtually is everything we idolize about the mythos Yakuza in a single person.
Funny you should mention Majima laughing like the Joker. The original Yakuza game on the ps2 had English voice acting and Majima was voiced by none other than Mark Hammil, AKA best Joker

Based on your other reactions I think you two would actually really enjoy Yakuza 0's story. Maybe the cutscenes or a playthrough or something. I know the combat is over the top, but it's not necessarily a reflection of the actual story in the game. The combat feels more exaggerated when put next to the very sincere story actually lol. And Kiryu and Majima are characters you really end up liking
Yeah, Kiryu's got the brute strength (bicycle/traffic cone to the face, my beloved) but Majima's got a fluidity that makes his combat very fun, even though his side of the plot is extremely grim.

Majima is more of a mad dog when he's fighting. Ferocious, unpredictable, untamed and maniacally. He's more proficient with weapons than Kiryu that's why he have lots of weapon heat action.
So in that way he is a lot like Trevor, yeah? 😜

Majima is just a ball of randomness and I love him. The fire you see tells you what current fighting style you are currently in when heat mode is acttive
It does feel like a good chunk of the Heat animations are the same or at least similar, probably because a lot of them are situational environment or weapon attacks. But Kiryu and Majima have unique fighting styles that have unique Heats.
Great video, gotta look up the "Lost Judgment" heat/EX actions next, it's a spin off game from the Yakuza series
To sum up Bethany's Aura Question it goes like this: Think of multiple fighting styles that focus on Balance, Speed, and Power.
Blue represents Thug Style.
Purple represents Breaker(Yes his fighting style is breakdancing)
Yellow represent Slugger style(As Bethany called the bat Lucille)

In Yakuza Kiwami which is Yakuza 1 Remake the Majima-San can do some of the heat actions to the player(kiryu) which is neck breaking, ground knee attack or else and also when you far from him and when you turn around he instantly shattering your neck you cannot even escape from it, and its true gotta be honest.
Aura colors means the fighting style he’s currently in. Blue is thug, pink is breakdancing, yellow is slugger and white is mad dog.

10:50 the reason he seems to be having so much more maniacal glee in his is because of the fact that in the end of 0 majima basically ends up with a 0 s***s policy which ends up with him somehow managing to be the most competent, incompetent, comical, serious, laid back, and deadly character in the game all at the same time. also if I remember correctly, Yakuza kiwami (the remake of the original after 0 which was a prequel) ends up with him basically having a kiriyu (by definition) fetish.
I VERY MUCH recommend you guys actually playing the Yakuza games... juuuust don't expect them to get monetized lol.

The different colors of fire are the different movesets that the player chooses. The purple one is breaker style, the blue one is thug style, and the yellow one is slugger style. :)

Remember this was back when Majima was a *nice* guy, and not crazy. At all. Not one bit.
The three colors are the different styles, technically speaking there are "five" styles, the three you learn from teachers, a weapon/stuff contextual style and then a secret "signature" style of the the character at their peak; with Kiryu it was the "dragon of Dojima" which is essentially MMA moves crossed with Virtua Fighter holds/throws capable of launching 400 pound men 12 feet into the air. For Majima "the mad dog of Shimano" has his signature knife, you can see it in the video when he has a black aura trailing him where most of his move are a blur of pain and he is super hard to hit.
So is the nice guy and not crazy stuff a meme like how Kiryu has never killed a person? 😜🤔
Just to clear the doubt about the "fire" that the protagonist have, you can change your fighting style and the color signal wich they are using(aside that the amount of flames is an indicator of how much "heat" you have, wich you use to do these atacks)
So for Majima is
Blue=tugh: Good old reliable with acrobatics and evasive abilities.
Purple=breaker: Good tempo and nice damage
Yellow=Slugger: A defensive(in Majima standarts)style in wich Majima uses mainly a bat, it has a nice range and a nice block.
Black=legend/mad dog: Dude has a knife and goes apeshit with it.

If you want more heat actions to react to, might I suggest the two Judgment games (Judgment and Lost Judgment)? Yagami has his own set of heat actions (or EX actions in that game) for both games, which I would say, are worth checking out too.
The different coloured icons indicate which fighting style Kiryu and Majima are using. Majima has 4 styles, Thug, Breaker, Slugger, and Mad Dog!
Can you do Lost Judgment EX Actions too? Lost Judgment is a Yakuza spin-off with flashy and unrealistic but awesome looking moves.

Purple = Speed/Mobility
P. Kiryu = Rush - for an inboxing style, he's very evasive, fast, and aggresive.
P. Majima = Breaker - It's just Majima things. He breakdances hard enough that he can spin and flail in style to fight. Very "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee".
Blue = Balanced/Dynamic
B. Kiryu = Brawler - More universal street brawling meant for good speed, good power, and mostly versatility.
B. Majima = Thug - He has many slick moves that allow him to trick, disarm, and temporarily stun his enemies. He will poke your eyes, steal your weapon, and punish your grabs.
Yellow = Power/Strength
Y. Kiryu = Beast - We call this one "Monkey Mode". He makes the environment (cones, rocks, bottles, bikes, etc.) his weapons in deadlier fashion that usual. He's also very slow, very hard to take down, very powerful... and *violent.*
Y. Majima = Slugger - My favorite style. He just pulls out an unbreakable baseball bat (which he can swing like nunchuks) for unique moves nobody else has in the series with one, as well as mysterious mastery of every single weapon. He can even combine weapons in the heat actions you saw here, like his knife/bat combos.
White = Their legacies. Their legendary moves. The combination of every single style.
W. Kiryu = Dragon - He keeps the power of the Beast and the speed of the Rusher (to a lesser degree) to enhance his Brawler style. He can parry many moves, and has his deadliest weapon, the Tiger Drop. He can (100% literally) drop pouncing adult tigers with this move by attacking right before he is attacked himself.
W. Majima = Mad Dog - He combines his mastery of weapons handling as a Slugger, his ridiculous speed and swiftness as a Breaker, and heightens his deception in a fight by using misderection, wild and senseless moves, and he is an absolute terror with his signature knife.
Nunchucks is my favorite one
This is about as violent as a video game can get without being banned in certain countries, like Mortal Kombat was.

You should check the yakuza 3 heat actions one day, they got more brutal in my perspective.

Thug Style(Blue): use more cheating moves
Breaker Style(Magenta): Break dancing is a weapon
Slugger(Yellow): use of weapons more better
Mad Dog(purple): using a dagger and move very fast while laughing like a mad man
There will be Turkish dubs for, Yakuza 8 Like A Dragon, Yakuza Ishin Kiwami, Lost Judgment and Judgment
