The way my jaw DROPPED when Kelsey revealed she watched RRR dubbed. I have seen it 4 times, twice subbed by myself, and twice dubbed with family members who refused to consider watching any other way. Note to my family: Come on, people! Listen to the beauty of another language.
Props to passionate dubbers who are great at their jobs but, come on, unless you're dyslexic or something, sub is the way to go. Especially on smaller films/series that can't yet afford proper dubbing.
@@anonymouslyopinionated656No, in hindi version you hear Ram Charan and NTR's original voice. But when you watch English version all the voices are dubbed by some other people. If the film was planned to be released in particular language before release you cannot call it dub as lot of work goes into choosing right words in that language while dubs are mostly just translation.
When you’re talking about the difference of superheroes in Hollywood and characters in Indian cinema, I think that’s because the concept of a “hero” in Indian cinema is different. It isn’t limited to a superheroes/fantasy characters, a hero can be a normal person, a hero is just someone that is larger than life. It’s a very interesting concept in Indian cinema and in my opinion is what makes it so enjoyable to watch.
omg the fact that this podcast will even watch movies i grow up watching as an indian makes me love the try guys and guilty pleasures even more than i do!!! ❤❤❤
I gained so much respect for Ian after this episode! I love how well he understands the indian audience's perception of our movies and how earnestly we bask in the protagonist's glory. Although I am also someone who finds the typical tollywood over-the-top action sequences quite funny and can't take them too seriously myself, he's right that most of the audience fully immerses themselves in the movie's world and just genuinely revel in its grandiosity. They truly, unironically, enjoy it for what it is. For them, the primary appeal lies in the hero's badassery and his absurd superhuman strength, rather than the comedic value of the obvious implausibility of beating 20 dudes at once and effortlessly tossing an elephant into the air. Glad all of you found a way of appreciating and having fun with the movie tho! Really hope you do more episodes on bollywood/tollywood movies. Just wanted to give Ian some brownie points for his cultural sensitivity!
As someone who watched this movie when it originally came out in theatres, I remember watching the end, freaking out and then going to my Indian classical dance class the next day, and all of my dance friends and I were just discussing the ending for a good 30 minutes before we actually got into class. And then we had to wait TWO YEARS to find out why because the movie kept getting delayed and it was possibly the most frustrated I have ever been about a movie being released ever.
You can see how happy zach is when Ian’s talking about getting smosh back. He feels so proud and happy for them as he knows what it is to have something they made become theirs. ❤

There is a fun fact for those who watched Bahubali for the first time and/or are not as well versed with this kind of cinema: in the flashback, the undercover scene at the market/bar, where bahubali (the father) distracts with the alcohol and the dance, and bhallaldeva goes looking for information, the bartender who serves the drink is actually the director himself, the man the myth the legend, Mr. SS Rajamouli. So there you go, a nice fun trivia.

I hope y'all continue to watch other Indian movies that aren't just Western audience bait.

you gotta keep in mind Indians and Indian Americans dismissing RRR is just another example of how bad the media literacy is. Indians grow up in strict, “school is the only thing that matters” upbringings and are not acquainted with appreciating art nearly as much. Mix in inferiority complex and you have a lot of awful discourse about Indian movies from them. Also, the stripping scene in Baahubali was widely criticized in India. it’s not just a western perspective thing. If you can try watching the movie in the original Telugu version please do bc the voices of the actors and actresses are chef's kiss. Also, I agree Tollywood is home to some backward ideas and there is still a lot of change needed in the messages they put in movies like actresses are just accessory characters most of the time.
One twist at the end of Baahubali beginning movie (Kattapa killed Bahubali) guaranteed recovery of Baahubali 2 budget. Over billion people waited for 8 months for the second movie and millions of discussions on why Kattapa killed Baahubali.
will you guys have to pivot to foreign content because of the sag strike and the no promoting works from struck companies? if so, i would really love if you guys could cover some more asian media like this because there are so many hidden gems out there!
19:43 Uh huh, so when Antonio Banderas does same-ish thing to Catherine zeta jones in The Mask of Zorro.... Its a classic... I see irony dying twice here😅
I feel a lot of cultural context is lost for foreign audience. Kattapa was not a slave, he is the Military general of the nation. The loyalty should be focused on not the slave part, it's the bad king who treats him as a slave not the queen or Bahubali.
Random Notes: - The son (Shiva), who grows up in the tribe at the bottom of the waterfall, is Mahendra Baahubali. His father is Amarendra Baahubali. Amarendra Baahubali's dad was the former king, Vikramadeva, who died and isn't characterized. There's briefly a painting shown of him and he also looks like his son and eventual grandson. Strong genes man lol. Vikramadeva and the "bad king/bull-killing guy"'s dad are brothers. He always wanted the throne and blamed his physical disability for not getting it and not that he's an evil mf. Anyway, he sees opportunity for his son when his brother dies and his brother's wife dies during labor. But he's thwarted by his wife (Shivagami) who decides that she's going to raise her son (who becomes "bad king/bull-killing guy"') and his nephew (Amarendra) together as heirs. Then as you know, Katappa kills Amarendra Baahubali and etc etc etc. - Telugu Movies are best seen with Tamil dubs (preferred) or Malayalam dubs. Just because the languages are closer and so you get a little closer to the original language feels. Not that the Hindi dubs are bad, it just drives me insane when words don't match people's mouths and something about the songs also put me off. -You should watch K.G.F.: Chapter One and also it's sequel. It's a Kannada-language film. Telugu dub is closer with this one. It's about an anti-hero or maybe even a villain that you eventually root for. "Jimmy Carter" make an appearance lol. -If you want female-led movie, you can try and find Arundhati (telegu). Although, it might be hard to find. Kahaani, Mardaani, and English Vinglish (all Hindi) are good too. The former movies are a bit more intense tho but English Vinglish is more light!
Here are a couple of videos with some explanations of scenes in this great movie. 1. RRR's song Naatu Naatu : th-cam.com/video/NBxg_Pp3v7E/w-d-xo.html 2. Bridge Scene: th-cam.com/video/NHc-VSIyhBc/w-d-xo.html 3. Ram's Entry Scene: th-cam.com/video/4iEiY91SS2E/w-d-xo.html
Ya'll got the story so wrong it hurts 😂 and the actor that plays the main character, Baahubali, is not Rana Daghubati. Bahubaali is played by Prabhas. Rana Daghubati plays Baahubali Senior's evil cousin.
Kelsey does not deserve the hate for the dubs! I kind of appreciate having somebody that's watching that version for a number of reasons. One of which being that for action movies, such as this, I prefer dubbed cuz it is easier to keep up with other things on the screen rather than being distracted by text. Also, if you're worried about the translation problems dubbing and subbing can be equally good or bad.
before the song sequence you are talking about....there is scene where the actress is looking at her on reflection on the river and disturbs it as she didn't like what she looked like.......and during the fight song sequence he was trying to make her look good and show her that she was beautiful..... but he needed get armour out, to do that
am i the only one being confused about Ian's and Miles's voices??? They are SOOO SIMILAR! their style and tone is different, but they could totally mimic each other!
Guys you must watch another movie of ss rajamouli called "eega" it's a movie about a man reincarnated as a fly taking revenge on the villan who murdered him . It's awesome

It’s been more than an year, Bahubali 2 discussion never happened 😢😢
51:00 plot twist 😂
Random Notes:
- The son (Shiva), who grows up in the tribe at the bottom of the waterfall, is Mahendra Baahubali.
I'm so happy you guys saw this movie!!!

I am SO EXCITED to watch both movies!
When yall gonna watch bahubali 2 movie?
Ya'll got the story so wrong it hurts 😂 and the actor that plays the main character, Baahubali, is not Rana Daghubati. Bahubaali is played by Prabhas. Rana Daghubati plays Baahubali Senior's evil cousin.
That guy looks like Ryan Ranolds😂❤
Kelsey does not deserve the hate for the dubs! I kind of appreciate having somebody that's watching that version for a number of reasons. One of which being that for action movies, such as this, I prefer dubbed cuz it is easier to keep up with other things on the screen rather than being distracted by text.
Also, if you're worried about the translation problems dubbing and subbing can be equally good or bad.
before the song sequence you are talking about....there is scene where the actress is looking at her on reflection on the river and disturbs it as she didn't like what she looked like.......and during the fight song sequence he was trying to make her look good and show her that she was beautiful..... but he needed get armour out, to do that
i cant lie. i love the way zach says Baahubali 😂😂
