I went to a party in early 1967 knowing that I would be drafted in a few weeks. There was a Veteran there in a wheelchair that was swathed in bandages so that he looked like a mummy. Turns out that he was a Cobra pilot that had been in a bad fire/explosion. When I got to Ft Knox for BCT the XO of the training company tried to get me to sign up for rotary wing school. I thought back to that dude at the party and refused his offer.

Combat can't be described in words that will convey the feeling of being in shot at. I have tried find a way to describe the feeling, the concussion, the pressure, the dirt hitting you and the fear when a hand grenade lands 5 feet outside your fighting hole.

Difficult conversation…. Vietnam wasn’t something to talk about. So sad for these poor men.

I was a grunt in Vietnam 1971. He doesn't come across like most pilots I heard.

      Agree:
      00:30, 'I joined may 28 1968'.
03:00, ' got my wings april 1968 fort rurgers AL.'
"I was probably 22 years old"
At best his memory isn't very good.
They should have help him to prepare for the interview.
      God bless him anyway.
